Why Wilma Schindeler chose Marathon
I purchased this rental because it was contiguous with property I already owned. I had lived in Marathon for 6 years and knew this would be a worthwhile invest for me and an opporunity for travelers to enjoy a very unique experience in West Texas

A great private getaway
We enjoyed a relaxing few days amongst the best scenery in Texas. Returning each day from a hike in beautiful Big Bend, the house was spacious and cool, and we looked forward to evenings watching the wildlife from the verandah. Our dogs were free to roam outside, far enough away from any traffic or neighbouring property - a real treat for them! Barn swallows were nesting above the verandah, deer and jack rabbits came to drink at the pond, and a variety of birds visited the garden each day.
Directions to the house were clear, so finding it was easy and everything was just as promised. The people we met in Marathon, in the Pizza takeaway, the French Grocery and the White Buffalo Bar were friendly and welcoming. We could happily have stayed on awhile, and would happily return to Casa la Vista!
Perfect house for our weekend trip to Big Bend. My husband and I stayed with our two young boys- ages 2 and 6. We loved the views, easy access to town and to the main roads to Alpine and Big Bend. The house has everything you need. Loved that it didn’t have too much unnecessary stuff— too often rental homes have furniture and knick knacks that make the home not too kid friendly. We enjoyed spending time on the back porch watching the sunset and playing around the small pond. My boys loved watching the train. I saw in other reviews some comments about the train. We rarely noticed it unless our 2 year old pointed it out. My only suggestion is to bring a fan if you like to sleep cool at night. It was a very hot weekend, highs around 100, and we found the bedroom had a hard time cooling off at night. Thankful we brought a fan from home. Hope we can return sometime!
We had a great time. The property was very peaceful and the small pond was a draw for many animals.
Great location for visiting Big Bend.. Make sure to visit the Gage gardens while you are there.
Beautiful in Marathon
Very nice home.
I've attended yoga retreats at Casa La Vista and its adjoining property. I found this West Texas ranch home with its beautiful rustic-chic decor so comfortable and peaceful. Whether relaxing by the indoor fireplace with a good book and a glass of wine or waking up to the view out the back patio while drinking my coffee and watching Mother Nature's daily show, I found just what my soul needed. When can I move in permanently??? ;-)
The ideal West Texas get away!
My favorite place to stay in Marathon. The ideal West Texas get away. I love the open uncluttered floor plan, the large windows that frame the unobstructed panoramic views of the mountain range and the picturesque sunsets. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen has every thing you need. I enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching the rabbits, quail, deer, and occasional fox. If you are looking for a serene environment to unplug, this is it.
