I purchased this rental because it was contiguous with property I already owned. I had lived in Marathon for 6 years and knew this would be a worthwhile invest for me and an opporunity for travelers to enjoy a very unique experience in West Texas
Great location for visiting Big Bend.. Make sure to visit the Gage gardens while you are there.
I've attended yoga retreats at Casa La Vista and its adjoining property. I found this West Texas ranch home with its beautiful rustic-chic decor so comfortable and peaceful. Whether relaxing by the indoor fireplace with a good book and a glass of wine or waking up to the view out the back patio while drinking my coffee and watching Mother Nature's daily show, I found just what my soul needed. When can I move in permanently??? ;-)
My favorite place to stay in Marathon. The ideal West Texas get away. I love the open uncluttered floor plan, the large windows that frame the unobstructed panoramic views of the mountain range and the picturesque sunsets. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen has every thing you need. I enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching the rabbits, quail, deer, and occasional fox. If you are looking for a serene environment to unplug, this is it.
Really nice location on the edge of town with great vistas of the mountains. Nice yard too with a little pond and outdoor sitting area. (You can still hear the Marathon train, but that's true anywhere in this town.) Great working fireplace and all the necessary amenities. Love the Mexican style bathroom. Some of the furniture and comforters could use some sprucing up - just a bit on the rough side - and the kitchen could use some more items to make cooking easier, but all very nice. Very nice hosts too.
My husband and I spent 3 nights at this rental and disagree with the other reviews. We found it to be overpriced for what you get. The patio was an important feature to us. The view from the patio is fantastic, but you better bring your own chairs. There is an old wooden bench on the patio but it is not comfortable and is difficult to move. There is also a chiminea on the patio but the chimney part of it is broken and laying in pieces right next to it. The patio itself has broken stones and had tall weeds growing out of it during our stay. There was an electrical outlet hanging out of the wall in the kitchen. The linens on the king-size bed were old and covered in "pills." We like a little noise from our ceiling fan, but the ceiling fan in the master bedroom is way too noisy and moves around a lot. You are much closer to the road and train tracks than you might think from the pictures provided. We were hoping to escape the sound of traffic, but you can easily hear the cars on the main road through Marathon. Of course, there is not a constant string of cars, but it was more traffic than we wanted to hear. Trains go through town several times each day and the whistle is loud enough to make you jump. We enjoyed watching a storm build across the mountains during our visit but when it got to us, we lost both electric and water utilities. When the sun went down, it got dark--the "can't see your hand in front of face" kind of dark. We searched for flashlights, candles, battery-powered lantern, or anything else to help us light our way but found nothing. A quick call to the caretaker confirmed that there were no supplies available to guests during a power loss. Fortunately, we had a small flashlight in our car. We let the owners know about our disappointment in the property and hope they make some changes before your visit.
