About Art Collins

My name is Art, I live full time in Manhattan and Fire Island. I have been in NY for 24 years, originally from San Diego, CA. I work hard to make this apartment nice. I am a finish carpenter and work on all my properties. I have other island properties to let if interested in the USA.

Art Collins purchased this apartment in 1990

Why Art Collins chose 4th Arrondissement Pompidou Le Marais

Walking around on the island during the sunset, is the most beautiful and peaceful place to end the day. There are a number of romanic sunset viewing spots to watch the sun go down over the Seine and the Cathedral, Notre Dame.

What makes this apartment unique

The unique situation about this apartment is that it is located on a very quiet courtyard 1st floor. Once you exit the building your on the tree lined Seine. The butcher, bakery, cheese shop, wine shop, ATM, & convenience store, all on the island. One does not need to leave the island for daily supplies. The metro at Pont Marie, #7 line pink, just across the bridge, along with the large grocery store at St. Paul, is very close.

Very Cozy, Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

Perfect location! Sleeping loft can be a bit awkward to get into / out of - but my 13 year old son loved it. My choice of the extra fold-out bed (not in the loft) was great! The big windows into courtyard let in a lot of air. I was there in July 2017, and Paris was having a heat wave, yet the apartment stayed a pleasant temperature. Only issue was some loud tourist neighbors who didn't understand that sound travels easily in the shared courtyard. Great place. I'll be back!

Stayed in the apartment for a month

  • 3 of 5

Stayed in the apartment for a month. Great location, but the owner needs to be more accommodating..... I was given 2 different times for leaving one was 10am and the other 11am the cleaner turned up at 9-50am and it was are you leaving I have to clean, considering I had rented the apartment for a month I do think the owner could have bee a bit more flexible, when I said my flight was an evening one and was it possible to leave my bag until mid afternoon there was absolute NO after a whole months rental I really do think there could have been a bit more flexibility.

Owner's Response: It was unfortunate that the apartment had been rented out back to back, and another tenant was to check in that same day. In hindsight, I should have asked him if he needed extra time as he truly is entitled to more flexibility. The nature of making reservations in this sight makes it difficult to be flexible or to anticipate requests for extra time unless done way in advance so the day can be blocked.

Perfect Location for Exploring the Heart of Paris

  • 3 of 5

The apartment was ideally situated for our five days in Paris and a comfortable respite between our city wanderings. The living area, kitchen and bathroom were clean and fully equipped--the washer/dryer was a real bonus. Though we knew the bed was in a loft-like area, we weren't expecting just a mattress on the floor (though the space wouldn't accommodate a deeper bed). While we appreciated the quiet setting, the apartment is tucked away and overlooks a very small courtyard--it felt a little claustrophobic. That said, we didn't spend much not-sleeping time there. The island is a delight and we ended up having dinner just steps from "home" most nights.

Everything you need for the perfect stay in Paris!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I love this area of Paris and were looking for accommodations that would measure up to our previous experience. The food, people and location are wonderful. The apartment was clean and certainly spacious for European standards. The kitchen and all the amenities were perfect. The bedroom is a bit of a trick to get in and out of, because it has a low ceiling and a loft feel. Other than that, we could not have asked for a better experience. François was warm and accommodating, and Art was very responsive and easy to work with. We will definitely stay again!

Lovely little flat, very comfortable, great location

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is full of character and very comfortable. We all slept very well, it's very quiet despite its very central location. Highly recommended. There is a late check in fee if people are arriving after 8pm which we were unaware of.

Our 45 th wedding anniversary started out so off, we both wanted to cry.

We were unable to check in until after 5pm as Francois works.

The code to the building was incorrect.

We asked the cleaning lady to please store luggage we hauled around since our 830am flight arrived and she found a storage area that is not typically done.

Francois texted us to stop harassing the cleaning lady as he was working and could not come until after work.

$75 fee charged if you check in before 3 pm and

then another fee for service, cleaning, and check in with Francois.

When he arrived he spent less than 10 minutes with us and asked for his money.

55 euros to greet us for a brief time on his own schedule and then he was unavailable by phone or text an hour later when we could not get the TV to work after he left.

Art called us and told us code was wrong and could not really help us with the TV wifi connection over the phone.

Did seem he felt some degree of empathy for our situation.

There is NO BED, a mattress on floor upstairs and rock hard futon that could be a bed downstairs. Photos and information states sleeps 2 and does not show a mattress on the floor.

We asked for more toilet paper as only 2 rolls were there for 6 days and were told to buy our own from an email from Francois.

The reviews we read were in complete contrast to our experience.

Our Seattle friends rented a VRBO for same amount of money nearby and their contact arranged for the cleaning people to check them in and no extra fees for early check in or for service at check in. A red bottle of wine greeted them for their anniversary and a notebook with ideas on where to go and where to eat in the area, neatly arranged in 3 ring binder that would have helped, had we had one .

YES agree the area is wonderful and will look for another place in same area next time we are in Paris.

We are now in Nice and a bottle of French champagne with a fruit basket greeted us here.

Glad to have a real bed to sleep in now.

Owner's Response: It is unfortunate and sad that this guest's experience was unpleasant. We pride ourselves with providing our guests personal care and my reviews reflect that clearly. This guest arrived 4 1/2 hours earlier than scheduled and demanded entry into the building to store her luggage, disturbing residents of the quiet building, ringing the buildings doorbell over and over until someone came to the front gate. The building's maintenance staff reluctantly stored her luggage. All this could have been prevented if she read and responded to the repeated emails I and my greeter have sent weeks and days prior to their arrival, to which we have a record of. Early arrival was available if she coordinated with my greeter's emails. As a courtesy to all our guests, we provide basic toiletries, new wrapped soaps, paper towels, for the first few days. not included "chocolates" or a "bottle of champagne." Also provided is a comprehensive binder with instructions on anything to do with the apartment, including the operation of the television and internet (which was left inoperable due to misuse after they departed). I also provide a landline free of charge in which they can call me directly at any time. I conversed directly with the guest twice to deal with their issues and made sure the greeter and the cleaner, were contacted to deal with the early guests as quickly as possible. My apartment description is thorough and honest and this guest's complaints are new to us. It is surprising to me how disgruntled and unhappy this guest is considering all the effort and attention we put in to accommodate her arrival. All this could have been prevented if she responded to the repeated email exchanges about logistics and arrangements. We pride ourselves on accommodating our tenants special requests if they communicate with us.

The building is on the Seine facing the Marais in the very centre of Paris. This location is very close to the Pont Marie bridge over the river.

There is also a beautiful tree lined pedestrian water front walk right in front of the building.

The island is away from the hustle of Paris street traffic. This is a very prime location for quiet walks around the island.
