Rental Property consists of BOTH cottages - they can't be rented separately -
Summer: Saturday changeover ONLY, firm
'Alpine' cottage on the hill is a 2-bedroom fully refurbished cottage. 'Camp-like' bedroom setup with a queen bed in one BR, & twin over full bunk beds in 2nd bedroom (open ceiling). Remodeled custom kitchen is well appointed with soapstone island. The living area is open to both kitchen and dining area, has futon and seating for 5, HDTV. Most of the cottage has views of western horizon and beautiful Lake Fairlee. Direct TV, Wi-Fi, and Domestic long distance included.
'Lakeside' cottage sits directly on water; is a honeymooners-style studio with a queen bed, bathroom, small kitchen and living area with a spectacular view of the lake and mountains. There is a day-bed with trundle, sitting area, and quaint bistro - dining area. Kitchen comes nicely appointed for most cooks. There is also an outdoor shower.
2 Gas grills, outdoor seating, campfire pit, private dock with ladder, swim out float, kayaks, canoes, rowboat all come with rental. Pontoon boat rental is available for extra charge (please inquire)
The rental includes both cottages. Depending on your use, you may have a difficult time deciding which to stay in! 'Alpine' has a classic cottage feel, with knotty pine and hardwood floors, screen door and high ceilings. 'Lakeside' is perfect for two and or to host overnight guests. Or, use Lakeside for a 'changing room' while gathering down at the Lake, make lunch there, take a quiet nap there, play a board game with the kids, or maybe use it's space for yoga or meditation. We think you will love the charm of Lakeside and the functionality of Alpine. Both cottages come tastefully furnished with a mix of antiques and modern comforts.
Parking spot for 4 cars is up by Alpine. We have a Vermont-Cart to help get your gear down to Lakeside. Please note that the property has a moderate-sloped pitch down towards the Lake. Also a 'woods-y' topography (exposed roots, rocks and pine needles etc) - It is not suitable for infants or toddlers. That said older kids love the outside and Camp feel. Please feel free to contact the owner with any concerns.
We are your hosts, John and Lesley - our primary residence is in Massachusetts but our haven is here on Lake Fairlee.
After renting on Lake Fairlee for 5 years, and realizing that this Lake was the ONE for us, we bought 'Birch Point Lane Cottages'. It was a dream come true for us. The property consists of three structures: the 2 rental cottages and our own 'Lodge' which was re-built by John. Lodge has taken some time to complete and has an interesting history, please ask us while you are visiting. John has also put his touch on the cabins, making all the cabinets in Alpine's kitchen, building a new deck, installing new flooring, and many other updates are John's handy-work. Since we have been regular renters (from properties on HomeAway!) we think we know what people like and don't like about the experience. It is our goal to be nearby and available as 'caretakers' but far enough to let you have your own Lake Fairlee vacation and memories.
John & Lesley Tarbell purchased this cottage in 2011
Lake Fairlee is easy to fall in love with. It is a nice size lake, just about 3 miles long, a clean 'spring-fed' body of water nestled in the beautiful Vermont mountains. We are fortunate to have many traditional overnight camps as our neighbors ( you will hear reveille). The surrounding communities of Fairlee and Thetford are quiet, sleepy-towns and represent quintessential Vermont. But not too far away, you have the more 'bustling' towns of Hanover, NH and Woodstock VT. There is plenty to do, just as there is plenty of relaxing to do...
Birch Point Lane Cottages are unique for their stunning views and 'camp-like' feel. If you have been on the Lake, than you have probably noticed Lakeside cottage - it sits directly on the water. And Alpine is perched up on the hill offering incredible western views of the lake. When we are at Birch Point we immediately exhale and relax. Adding to all the visual beauty is the symphony of nature's sounds to your ears. The call of the loon, the birds singing, even the fish jumping - make this spot even more special. We just can't wait to share it with you and your family!!
Last week 4 of us had a campers' reunion at the Tarbell's property for 7 days. We rented both cottages and found them just perfect for our situation. Our camp had been on Lake Fairlee 55 years ago, so we try to get together when we can on this wonderful lake. 3 of us stayed up in the Alpine Cottage - very roomy with a good kitchen and living room and comfortable beds, albeit one room with bunk beds. Loved the wood pellet stove when we needed it.
The 4th stayed at Lakeside, right over the water! Both cottages are well appointed and provided us with everything we needed. We had 2 canoes and 2 kayaks at our disposal, as well as the pontoon boat should we choose to rent it.
There is a fire pit below Alpine for evening campfires, and many comfortable chairs grouped around at different areas. The walk down to the lake from Alpine is not difficult as John has built a nice set of stairs to use.
John & Lesley Tarbell are terrific hosts and we would definitely return again!
John and Lesley are the greatest hosts, the property is wonderfully laid out. We love being here with so much to do for adults as well as for our children, kayaking, swimming, running the hills, road or mountain biking, boating, golfing watching the gliders, balloonist at the airport, fire pit, and so much more. - Love it!
Lakeside cabin was perfect for our family. John and Lesley a wonderful hosts. We have two young children and the accommodations were extremely comfortable with the ideal mix of quaintness and convenience to allow us to live effortlessly but still feel as though we got away from our busy lives. We would love to return every summer
The property was even more beautiful than the photos! The 5 boys had the time of their lives! The area is more secluded than I thought it would be, but we were able to get almost everything we needed at Bakers General Store in town (5 minute drive). We were never in Vermont before and were awed by its beauty. Of course, a trip to Vermont would not be complete without a trip to Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory (about an hour and a half drive-call first to make sure they are manufacturing that day). We also went to Peyton Place Resturant-superb, The Hungry Bear, Whippi Dip and the great Fairlee Diner. Another highlight was going to the Drive-In movie in Fairlee-a first for everyone!
The property was immaculate! The owners and their daughter were lovely, helpful and kind. The owners took care of every detail and were so thoughtful! Their dogs and a neighbors' dog, Gracie (all water dogs), just added to the fun! It may seem like we went out a lot but most of the time we just went as far as Baker's General Store then back home to the cottages again. It was the most relaxing, beautiful and fun
vacation we ever had. I would give Alpine and Lakeside my
This location is the answer to anyone's dream vacation in one of the most beautiful spots in Vermont. The cabin's themselves have everything you need and are very nicely decorated. As soon as you walk inside you feel at home and you never want to leave. The property was clean and very well maintained. The amenities were perfect and we highly recommend that you rent the boat for a daily 'cruise' around the lake. The owners are the nicest people you've ever met. We would recommend this property to anyone who wants to get away, enjoy the beautiful views and simply enjoy what life is all about.
As an older adult I truly felt as though I was reliving my youth on the lake. The owners have made this property very comfortable for adults and children. Lots to do with your own dock, boats (kayak) and fire pit! The moon lite sky and the stars were breathtaking.
The lodge on the hill called "alpine" is terrific for a small family. Everything you could think of is there, for cooking, playing games with your children and enjoying your coffee in the morning on your own private deck. The stairs down to the fire pit, again private, are easily manageable. Then you walk down a slight hill to get to the honeymoon cottage and WOW, you really are right on the water! Very nice furnishings and again, well appointed. The small sitting area on the side is so cozy! Another gas grill here helps with the cooking if you have two families. We used the pontoon boat and that was wonderful for the afternoon cruise on the lake.
The owners have thought of everything and I feel that we were greeted and treated extremely well.
Thank you Tarbells, we loved our stay and can't wait to return.
