I live Hancock Point, on the 7 acre property pictured here, with my partner Randy. Hancock Point is a peninsula that is almost an Island if you look at the map. The ocean is not far away in any direction. We live in my farmhouse in the winter and in my cottage, Sunflower Cottage in the summer, where visitors can find me most of the time if they need me. I work as a Spanish interpreter for hospitals and clinics (in addition to renting, maintaining and cleaning the cottages and farmhouse!). Randy and I garden and maintain the property together and we really enjoy having people from other parts of the country, and even the world, come here and experience the beauty of the place we get to live in all the time.
Suzanne Becque purchased this farmhouse in 2004
This is a unique place. You can come here to unwind and enjoy nature, but you will not be far away from all the attractions of Bar Harbor and livelier venues. We are situated between Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island and the other less well known, but incredibly beautiful part of Acadia on Schoodic Point at Winter Harbor. This allows visitors to easily spend time in both spots while enjoying an accommodation that is a little lower priced than those in Bar Harbor. The property is also near the Public Reserve Lands at Donnell's Pond, which are as beautiful as Acadia and less well known. If you hike up Schoodic Mountain in the middle of the week and then finish up at the beach on for a swim, you will think you have found heaven on earth and you won't be sharing it with very many people if any.
Randy and I really enjoy what we do and we want you to have a great experience here and are willing to do whatever is needed to make that happen.
This large property includes 2 cottages and a farmhouse, so if you are having a family reunion or just want some privacy when traveling with family, you can rent two cottages and or the farmhouse. Many big families have enjoyed this option. We've had afternoon softball games in the field and big cookouts on the farmhouse deck at night. The only downside for me is that I sometimes have to return misplaced pots and dishes, left in the wrong cottage, after those big family dinners!
The photos do not do this spacious and well appointed house justice. We rented the house for a family reunion, 5 adults, and had a wonderful time, and everyone had their own space when desired. The private staircase up to the master bedroom was great for my husband and I. The kitchen has everything you need (except a blender, or else I couldn't find it, so if you're addicted to smoothies, bring your own.) Not pictured, and a nice surprise for us, is the office which is perfect for your laptop(s). The back deck is huge, and opens onto the dining room, so even if you decide to eat inside instead of on the deck, it's very convenient. The owner lives in a cottage far behind, and not visible, from the house, so we had all the privacy we wanted, but were also able to personally ask her for directions, etc. 25 minutes to the Park entrance, and just 8.5 miles from Hannaford's Supermarket in Ellsworth, where you can buy fresh local seafood and organic meats and vegetables. The LL Bean Outlet in Ellsworth was also a treat.
Suzanne's house was perfect for our big family's stay there. The house is charmingly decorated while also being incredibly comfortable and functional, stocked with everything we needed to have a fabulous time. We traveled to Bar Harbor for a big lobster dinner at a great place that Suzanne recommended, we had a big family dinner on the back deck (complete with grill and porch furniture!) We explored Hancock Point, which is quaint and beautiful, the town harbor is full of sailboats and looks out over Mount Desert Island - stunning view!
The big old farmhouse was well cared for, and easily accommodated our party of 8. Suzanne went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable, as well as giving us lots of info about the area - activities, places to eat etc. The house is a 10 min walk to a very pretty cove, and is surrounded by fields and forests and only one or two houses. There's a big back yard for kids to play in as well as a huge field with paths all around the property. Being there felt like we were truly escaping it all!
Would absolutely recommend to a friend and hope to go back next year with family again!
My boyfriend and spent four days here in early this month and it was a totally magical experience. We had friends here for the first two nights and the house is big and spacious enough to sleep six comfortably, though more if you had a big family. A very well-equipped kitchen and a grill outside, a separate laundry room and a lovely dining room. The house is old but well cared for, homey and cozy. The owner/caretaker lives very close by and was on hand to bring us firewood, give directions and recommendations for things to do in the area. Very attentive, very nice. The location is gorgeous, a lovely walk down the quiet street brings you down to the water. Acadia National Park and too many other wonderful little seaside towns to list here are easily accessible. Biking is highly recommended, we brought our bikes and explored the whole area around the house and took them also to Acadia National Park. Lovely house very typical of the area, extremely relaxing location with almost no cars on the road but civilization close by.
Me and my friends went to this place. View from rooms are nice. Owner has kept a lot of kitchen utensils which was helpful. House is pretty old and I think owner wants to maintain that décor. We had hot water issues and it would flow for just 15 mins. Pretty much we went without shower or shower in ice cold water. There are 2 bath rooms but 1 is of no use as its old style, hand held and it reaches only certain height.
The barbeque gas was out in 5 mins and the spare was empty too. After calling the owner she got a new one but by then it was raining a lot and was of no use. We felt owner should have kept a filled one before a guest moves in. Owner would respond and be there for us in few minutes but there was no use of it as things could not be fixed. Example- water / gas and heating in the house as its old.
We are located in Hancock, Maine, halfway between Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park at Schoodic Point. The secluded location is close to the village of Hancock in an excellent area for a vacation with hiking biking, kayaking and berry picking. Step out the door and take a peaceful, ten-minute walk to Jellison Cove on Frenchman's Bay or explore the nearby woods and fields.
Enjoy the beauty of coastal Maine. Bike to the Frenchman Bay Nature Conservancy where you can hike, kayak, or picnic. Take a ride around the point and see the wonderful old historic houses, visit the library and Carter's Beach, all here on the point.
Drive to nearby Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island (40 minutes) or to Acadia National Park on Schoodic point (about 25 minutes in the opposite direction) and enjoy the quintessential Maine coastal villages along the way. Shop or go to the movies in Bar Harbor (45 minutes) or Ellsworth (20 minutes).
The little town of Hancock, Maine boasts some fabulous fine dining restaurants (Crocker House, Le Domaine), and several more modest restaurants with great local and ethnic offerings. Or just eat in on the cottage's covered porch and enjoy a peaceful evening watching the sun set and listening to bird song.
