To have a home in the beautiful lakes region of New Hampshire has been a lifelong dream of ours! Now that we have had our dream come true, it is a pleasure to be able to share it with our family, friends, and you! We have enjoyed vacationing here since we were children, and we are now sharing the experience with our own family. We hope our renters will share in our enthusiasm and share this beautiful spacious vacation spot with their friends and families too.
Lisa Rowsell purchased this house in 2008
My husband and I recently purchased this property because of the ideal location, available shopping and varied local entertainment and attractions. As a child, Rick grew up vacationing in the area, and in high school, I joined his family on many weekend trips. After Rick and I started our own family, we dreamed of giving them the same vacation experiences that his parents provided for us. This is the perfect spot for our family to relax, play, and vacation together with friends and family. We truly hope our guests will be as impressed as we have been and enjoy the views and many of the exciting possibilities the area has to offer!
While vacationing at our home in Tuftonboro, we enjoy all variations of water sports, hiking, family gatherings and cookouts, birthday parties, reading, relaxing, watching movies, and spending quality time together. We have had many positive experiences shopping, going for ice cream and trying out new restaurants in the area. Just a few miles from Wolfboro center makes our property ideal in its location for many reasons.
While I am not a huge "vacationer" I was not exactly sure of what to expect when renting a house out for my family. This being my very first time renting instead of staying at a hotel, I was absolutely blown away!! The house is so well kept and the view of Gunstock Mountain takes your breath away. My husband and I took our kids down to the public beach on Lake Winnipesaukee which was very clean. We also drove them about 15 minutes down the road to Wolfeboro Center for ice cream too many nights I'd like to admit ;). We really enjoyed some old fashion fun up here. Most nights outside stargazing and roasting marshmallows (the fire pit was immaculate when we got there!). I cannot say enough how nicely kept the house was and the space that we all had so we surprisingly did not get sick of each other. I can't wait to book our next trip here and make it a tradition!!
Recently my husband, our 3 children, and my parents stayed at this vacation home. The owners were a pleasure to rent from and met us upon arrival to give us a tour of the rooms and show us where to find things like board games for the kids, remotes, menus, maps, recycle, etc. There was plenty of space for the kids to hangout or the adults to relax, we didn't have to worry about the kids because the house is set back from the road and the dog loved to be outside with them. Not only was the home beautiful (the pictures don't do it justice) but the location was ideal. Just 15- 20 mins. away from Wolfeboro, we often went into town to shop, get ice cream, and we even went on The Mt. Washington boat tour! Although my parents didn't leave the house much they told us how peaceful it was to just sit on the deck and read their books and such soak in the view. We will definitely be returning and probably bring more friends and family! There is something for everyone at this home and its location is perfect for adventure seekers (the kids had a ball at Castle in the Clouds) as well as people just looking to get away.
We stayed here with family and friends for a long extended weekend and had a fabulous time. Even though the weather wasn't great the entire time, we still had such a wonderful experience staying here because we each were able to have our own bedrooms, which allowed us to have our own space when we needed it. We were able to cook dinners together, hang out in front of the fireplace on the cold nights, and when the weather was nice we were able to play games outside on the spacious property and make smores in the fire pit outside. It is extremely well kept and has a warmth and charm that you would never find in a hotel. It is perfect for both large groups or small. Additionally, it is also 15 minutes from Wolfeboro where we were able to grab dinner and ice cream and was also able to spend a day on the lake, which is only 5 minutes away. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay here and would highly recommend it.
This summer (2014) was our second time at the house. New Hampshire is beautiful; this house is fabulous. The yard is generous and well-maintained. View of mountains is magnificent. Last summer (2013), the house almost felt too big for us. This summer, we invited family, including my sister and brother-in-law and their children. My sister's family came with their dog. The space worked perfectly. It is an old house--the older portion of the house is very old (like 18th century-old!). The space is interesting--it does not have big, great and open rooms. Instead, it has a couple of large rooms and many small rooms. We found that the children enjoyed the small rooms--the room with the air hockey game, the room with the foosball game, and the small reading room off the master bathroom. There was space for all. Children, teens, adults, and dog. We all enjoyed being in the yar--the kids played constantly and the adults sat outside and read, talked and enjoyed teh beautiful grounds. There is no internet connection at the house (which was a welcome change even if some had withdrawal...); Smart phones with WIfi phones worked decently, and we loved the Tuftonboro and Wolfeboro public libraries (quiet, free internet, great to get work done when needed). Small public beach is 3 miles away (some of us ran there or did regular 3-4 mile runs on the streets of Tuftonboro). Beach has nice space for swimming (including lap swimming), a lifeguard until 5pm, covered eating area, and is not heavily populated. Pier 19 Grocer is across the street--Chester's Fried Chicken at the beach was a favorite! Nearby: Wolfeboro (beautiful), Moultonboro (we ate many good meals at The Village Kitchen on Rt 25 (free WIFI, open @6AM!)), nice hikes--Castle in Clouds (multiple), Red Hill; great ice cream (generous scoops!) @Bailey's Bubble (both locations) & Flurries (Meredith). The house is perfect for a group and great for children; it's not fancy and precious, but old, lived in & comfortable. As a mother of energetic children, I never worried that the kids would break anything. Lisa and Rick, the owners, are EXCEPTIONAL. They get customer service. Lisa is responsive and thoughtful. This summer, the dryer broke shortly after we arrived. Within hours, Rick had someone look at it and then, a few hours later, came to the house with a brand new, industrial-sized dryer. He removed the old one, installed the new one, and we never had another dryer problem! I highly recommend this house to anyone.
We were three couples with 5 kids under 5 and two dogs. This house was the perfect vacation spot for the week, for a large group. Plenty of space for us to congregate in the living room, dining room, or lawn, but also plenty of rooms for us to spread out and have some privacy when we needed it. The local swimming spot (about a 5 minute drive) is ideal for families with young kids: the beach is quiet and uncrowded, the water is calm and stays shallow pretty far out, and there are swimming lap lanes that you can walk out to. The beach was definitely the highlight for the toddler crew. Plus, there is a little fried food/ice cream stand a walkable distance from the beach.
The house was about a 30 minute drive from the big Winnepesaukee attractions (Weirs Beach, etc), but we loved being off-the-beaten path a bit. Our friends attended a local music jam session at a tiny church and had a lot of fun. We visited local farms to buy veggies and meat for dinner. The view on the property is gorgeous - perfect place for sitting on the porch in the morning with a cup of coffee.
Only minor complaint we had was the black flies! Thankfully, they never came close to the house, but if we wandered 20+ ft. away from the house to try an explore, the flies descended on us en masse! We heard from a friend that black flies are a problem all around Winnepesaukee, and, like I said, they mysteriously stayed away from the house so it was possible for us to picnic right by the porch. Recommended if you want to explore the property: Bug Spray!
Lisa is a great contact person - easily available by phone and email and very attentive to our questions. Would most definitely work with her again and rent the house again. Thanks for a great week!
Hi lisa we wanted to thank you for such an AMAZING week at your property. We spent the week of July 4th at the farmhouse and had anywhere between 10-12 people staying there all week PLUS 2 big dogs. Ages ranged from 13-75 and EVERYONE had a blast even on a couple of rainy nights! The house is by no means "fancy or extravagant" but that's what we loved about it it felt like a home not a museum. it has lots of character and charm. It's down a long driveway so it feels secluded and private which is nice. The house is beautifully maintained with lovely exposed beams. We had everything we needed to enjoy ourselves. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. kitchen had everything we needed to cook and the grill outside was a huge hit! we played games, watched movies, went to the lake which is a 3-4 minutes drive. Lake was shallow, warm, and VERY clean with docks, shaded picnic tables, and a lifeguard. Everyone including my 76 year old grandfather who is TERRIFIED of the water actually went swimming. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets in the backyard. There is no Wifi which we actually all appreciated so we were able to unplug and just enjoy the peace and quiet. The local library has free wifi which can be accessed from the car for those who needed to stay connected. We rented a pontoon boat for the day from a rental place within minutes of the house and had a PHENOMENAL day. We visited the castle in the clouds which is only a 5-10 minute ride and spent the whole day there exploring the grounds, feeding trout/ducks, and visiting with some beautiful horses. There is a TON to do in the area. Downtown wolfboro is only a short drive away and has tons of shops, ice cream places, restaurants, and bakeries. we never ran out of things to do. We had tons of laughs playing foosball in the house. we were able to see fireworks from the backyard. There are nearby trails. The list could go on and on. We took over 500 pictures including some pretty stunning views. We made memories that we will cherish for a long time. It truly was one of the best vacations we've taken as a family and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
