Hello, We're from Kingwood, TX. With our son away to college and our daughter out in the working world as a nurse, we're now empty nesters. On the other hand, our daughter recently gave us our first grandchild!
I grew up only a couple of hours away and was fortunate enough to spend time in Galveston at least once or twice a year. My husband is from North Carolina, but he got to Texas as quick as he could 20 years ago!
We both love to travel and have been to several countries and scenic spots over the years, but we keep returning to Galveston for the charm and laid back atmosphere. It's our little get away from it all place.
Richard D - Property Manager purchased this house in 2012
We have been coming to Galveston to the beach for several years. But we recently realized that Galveston had so much more to offer than just its beaches which are nice. We began taking our bikes with us and started riding through all the Victorian Era neighborhoods, the Seawall, the Strand. Soon we started spending every weekend possible exploring the island and its rich history. We also found that staying in a house was much more relaxing than staying in a hotel. When we came across this adorable vintage 1889 Gulf Coast Style Cottage on a quiet street just around the corner from the Seawall, we knew it was a place that we would love to own. It has been so much fun putting our personal touches on it and finishing out the attic bed and bath rooms. We love the old wooden floors everywhere, the soaring high ceilings, and the beautiful little staircase leading up to the attic dorm rooms and we hope you do too!
I rented this house for the half ironman race, and was traveling with a lot of family. I couldn't believe a house this old and so beautifully restored, also had all the modern conveniences. Not only that, but it comfortably slept so many and had so many bathrooms - a very important thing when you're traveling with a group of that size. We had one member of our party who was elderly, and it was critical that she didn't have to climb stairs. So many houses in Galveston are on stilts. So this house was a rare find since its ground level. I kept getting compliments all weekend for such a great find. The house was well managed, which made staying that much simpler. I would definitely recommend it!
This was the perfect house for our family get together. Space for all to enjoy including the front and back yard. There were all the amenities that we needed and more. It would certainly be a redo for us. Tammy was also very sweet and accompanied us when we needed her. Thanks Tammy!
My siblings and cousin from Virginia and Florida, respectively, visited during the Christmas holiday, and we stayed from Dec 23-27. The house was a good size for 7 adults, also accommodating a family member using a walker and/or wheelchair. We came across one problem initially that the owner responded to and managed to our satisfaction. Family members walked to the seawall and neighborhood store, and we were in a central area for driving around the island. The house had nice Christmas decorative touches that we appreciated; and the fact that the house was a survivor of the 1900 hurricane was a plus. Several of us had recently read The Promise by Ann Weisgarber that talks about that hurricane, so we were able to make a connection with the area.
We really enjoyed our stay at Pelican Place during the Thanksgiving holiday. The home was very clean, roomy and centrally located within walking distance to the beach and several attractions nearby. The upstairs bedroom and game room were great for the grandchildren and having three separate bedrooms downstairs for the adults was very nice. The house was well furnished and had everything we needed. Having the roll-up security gate in the back made us feel very safe and secure at night. The owners were very easy to work with and made sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. Would highly recommend this property for family group gatherings.
The owners have thought of everything. They have made it very easy to drive up and enter into a very nice, protected, clean home. We all ( 8 adults ranging from 29 to 78 yrs of age, and 2 small children) enjoyed our stay here. Could not have asked for anything better . We were relaxed, felt safe, and access to 3 1/2 bathrooms made our schedule work. If you are looking for a place that feels like a home with a very good location near several spots, you ought to check this one out. Also, everyone said their beds were comfortable. I know mine was. Make sure you take some time to look thru the notebook on the coffee table. Again, they have thought of everything. Great information in there. Have I mentioned clean, comfortable, safe, relaxing ? Lounge in the living room together, or enjoy the morning on the front porch swing, or sit around the table on the back porch. I want to promote this because it was a very nice experience for our family. Thank you so much for obviously making a rental available that you would want to stay at.
We enjoyed our stay. We had 2 problems- the gardener opened the rolling garage door without warning and let our dog out, but also helped catch him and the lattice skirting on the back deck is in disrepair, allowing dogs to get under the deck. The house is nicely decorated and comfortable. It was farther from the beach than I expected.
Pelican Place is centrally located and close to everything in Galveston. Walk everywhere you go! You are only 2 blocks from the beach and 6 blocks from the new Pleasure Pier! Many great restaurants and bars are an easy walk.
Do you prefer the Historic Strand? It's only a few minutes away, too! There you will find live theater, shopping and many wonderful restaurants.
Want more than the beach, restaurants and shopping? How about a water park? It's only 5 miles to Schlitterbahn and Moody Gardens.
Bishop's Palace and Moody Mansion are just a short distance, too. Don't miss these fabulous houses with beautiful antiques and interesting history. The historical Silk Stocking District is only 3 blocks away and boasts a varied collection of historic homes that reflect development from the Civil War through World War II. The neighborhood includes some of Galveston’s best examples of the Queen Anne style architecture.
