Those who truely know Maine, really know that Western Maine Lakes and Mountain Region is the best of Maine. Dakota Bear Lodge is 10 minutes from Bridgton Maine which is a peaceful, scenic, small town with an authentic Maine flavor. Nonetheless, it offers the amenities of a much larger metropolitan area including a state-of-the-art hospital and Hannaford Groceries, Magic Lantern Movies and Discount Shopping at Reny's.. Unlike other towns in Maine's Lake Region, Western Maine is the home of 100's of Lakes and Beaches for fun summer activies and also the home of Mountains and Snowmobile Trails for Winter Activies.
Calm, Tanquility and Privacy abound at Dakota Bear Lodge. Waking up to the sounds of the birds chirping is all that you will hear. You will never hear a car or any sounds other than Nature. The beauty of the Timberframe House, Log Exterior & Pine Forest along with a 100 mile view of the White Mountains makes you feel like you are one with the outdoors. See Shawnee Peak to your North and the White Mountains to your West and the rest is just pure view of Woodlands and Trees.Enjoy Family and Friends where time stands or curl up with a good book, hot coffee in hand, in front of the 25 Ft High Field Stone Fireplace on a cold wintery day with a roaring hot fire. Hiking Trails, Snow Mobile Trails on the Property along with Skiing just a few minutes away.
Incredible hosts with a breathtaking property. Worth twice the price to stay here!
Fabulous!! The lodge, the scenery, the location and the owner. I wanted a place to celebrate my 60th birthday with my husband, children and grandchildren and I can tell you I was overwhelmed with everything the lodge had to offer. Solitude, amazing views, relaxing sauna and hot tub, fully appointed kitchen, comfy beds, entertainment area downstairs and plenty of room to gather with my family. The surround sound was wonderful for the playlist of music my daughter created for me and the large dining table worked out so well for the games we played together. We did venture out once to a great little Pub, Ebenezer's in Lovell and downtown Bridgton for groceries. None of us wanted to leave! We are planning to return perhaps for a couples weekend this time.
This house has everything you need, just show up w food & clothes. Fully equipped kitchen, bathrooms with towels, and cozy beds! 10 minutes to ski or to water! 15 minutes to town. A view that is out of this world!!! We have gone 2yrs in a row, 4 families (8 adults & 7 kids under 11)and never to we feel packed in! Love hot tub, sauna, fire pit and the views everyone of day. One caution-Maybe hard for really young kids, there is a big drop in back yard. It is fenced but depending on the age you would want 100% supervision.
This was literally the best vacation EVER. The lodge, the views, just spectacular. We visited the Lodge for our Family Thanksgiving and it couldn't have been any more perfect. We hiked, we enjoyed the Hot Tub, the outdoor Fire Pit, the indoor fireplaces. It was just so peaceful. The Lodge itself is just gorgeous. The owner met us there and guided us through the Lodge and the workings of everything and she made us feel welcome. This is our new Family Thanksgiving tradition. Can't wait to go back.
I stayed at this incredible property over this past weekend and highly recommend you do as well! This place is easy to get too and very private. The photos while beautiful, sure don't give it justice. When we got there the owner was able to walk us through everything in the house and answer all of our questions. She was very pleasant to work with. At the lodge there is a huge hot tub, sauna, gas grill, fire pit and a comfortable game room downstairs. Entertainment is not a problem. In addition, there was a speaker system that was not only indoors but outdoors, so when we were at the firepit we could listen to our country music. Everything comes with instructions and is very easy to use. We mostly spent our weekend at the lodge but we were able to find grocery stores and little shops for pizza, etc. just 15 minutes away. We also went out to dinner one night at Ebenezer's in Lovell. The food was great, but was a little pricey. There is a binder of recommendations at the lodge. No time for boredom, there is plenty to do. Again, i highly recommend this lodge to you if you're looking for a quiet getaway with breath taking views.
We had 10 people spending 8 days in this crafted log house in August and as many other stated it is a great, very well organized house with great attention to detail seen in 5 star hotels and better. It has special views and I could only imagine how it will look like during foliage. It is a peaceful, tranquil area with freshest air we felt in a while, calming sounds at night, georgeous clouds and clear starry sky. It is definitely what our family needed after a long drive from NY and our busy lives there - pure relaxation. We also got lucky to see Perseid meteor shower in the nights of August 11-13 - that was something special. Thank you for a great vacation.
The Western Maine Mountains region spans most of Maine’s western border with New Hampshire. A small part of the scenic White Mountain National Forest is located in this area. This is essentially all of Oxford County and northern York County and Cumberland County. Notable towns include Bethel, Bridgton, Waterford, Sweden, Lovell, Naples, Albany, Oxford, Otisfield, Casco Rangeley, and Rumford. Many of the state's highest peaks are located in this region.
The area is known for its skiing, including Shawnee Peak in Bridgton, Sunday River in Bethel, Black Mountain in Rumford, Saddleback Mountain in Rangeley and Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley.
The Appalachian National Scenic Trail passes through this region, and the portion that passes through the region's Mahoosuc Notch is popularly considered by hikers to be the most difficult mile of the entire trail.
Western Maine is the land of hundreds of small and large lakes, rivers and streams makes Western Maine one of the most beautiful natural regions in New England. Recreational possibilities abound making this truly a four season opportunity to enjoy the awe-inspiring foliage views in the fall, skiing at one of the world renowned ski resorts in the winter and early spring to the hiking and fishing along wilderness trails in the clean refreshing air of a Western Maine summer. Boating, hiking, camping, golf, snowmobiling, you name it, it can be found in Western Maine.
Of course, if you're looking for something different to do, there are opportunities to enjoy llama trekking or digging in quarries for gemstones and minerals such as amethysts, tourmaline, garnet and topaz. You might even try your hand at panning for gold. The well-known Sebago-Long Lake area offers miles of boating and many lakefront activities including parasailing and windsailing. Sebago Lake may be Maine's second largest lake, but it has a small-time feel to it as there are numerous quiet inlets to explore. There are paddle boats and seaplane rides available at the Naples Causeway on Long Lake. The hand-operated Songo Locks, the only one remaining from 27 locks built in the 1830s, makes it possible to see the entire 42-mile waterway encompassing Sebago Lake, Songo River, Brandy Pond and Long Lake. The paddle wheeled Songo River Queen II is also a great way to see an upper portion of this waterway.
