Renovated river home in the heart of Montmorillon

We had 2 weeks staying at La Terrase and loved each moment of it. Lovely house with a nice seating area in the garden down by the river which was fantastic for whiling away the evenings with a glass of something tasty! The homeowner, Margaret, has been fantastic in communication before and during the holiday and nothing is too much for her to sort out. I'm sure we will be back again ! :)

Nous avons passé une semaine dans cette magnifique maison ancienne, rénovée avec beaucoup de goût et avec un petit supplément d'âme...nous ne connaissons pas Margaret sinon via les mails, mais nous ressentons que sa maison est à son image, généreuse, accueillante et pleine de vie. Nous avions des vélos à disposition, même un kayak, mais l'eau manquait...quelques bonnes choses nous attendaient également en cuisine...

Une semaine fut trop courte pour en profiter suffisamment, les apéritifs au bord de l'eau nous manquent déjà !

Nous ne pouvons que recommander aux vacanciers de vivre ces moments privilégiés à Montmorillon, ville où il fait bon vivre.

Nous voyageons beaucoup et cette étape restera dans nos très bon souvenirs.

This is my second time to stay at La Terrasse and it was even better this time around. There is a new spacious sit-in kitchen that I would really love to have in my own home. Everything you could need is here! The garden has come on beautifully too with a choice of places to sit or stretch out or have an aperitif or meal. As it was a bit later in the year we chose to have our lunches on the terrace overlooking the river and our dinners in the kitchen. It was the most relaxing few days of this year and we came back from Montmorillon feeling totally recharged. A great place for a holiday. We`ll be back!

I just returned from a wonderful trip to Montmorillon! The place we stayed in on the river was wonderful. It has a *lovely* garden with great views of a beautiful river. I sat outside for hours and hours. The house itself is so charming and unique. Every nook and cranny had character. I just kept pinching myself because the place just oozes with charm. There is a brand new kitchen- which was quite nice and sophisticated. The town is quaint. The area is filled with so much fun and interesting things to do. One of the highlights of my visit was a "girls" luncheon in St Savin which is less than 20 minutes away. We had a fabulous lunch at a restaurant called Pattison. To die for food. I want to retire here.

Open the door, take a breath and...be enchanted.

Montmorillon 'Cite de l'Ecrit' is a charming medieval town nestled in the Poitou-Charentes region, known for it's books and macarons. The traditional recipe for Montmorillon macarons remains unchanged in 150 years, I know this because I visited the Maison Rannou-Metivier, macaroon museum and bakery, and enjoyed many macarons over the course of our stay in Montmorillon.

It is picture postcard France, in fact Margaret's house is featured on a postcard. Sitting right on the river, the photographs can not begin to portray the magical feeling one experiences walking into this blissful environment. Automatic de stressing, relaxation, joy, a sense of fun and adventure with undertones of magic and romance.

The house is warm, inviting and charming, with all the modern conveniences anyone could possibly need. Spectacular vistas and light, a great space to retreat to, or enjoy the company of many friends, and believe me if you visit Montmorillon you will make friends, for it hosts the most beautiful tapestry of people who are as welcoming and enchanting as the town itself.

Something for everyone - hiking, biking, kayaking, riding, amazing restaurants, historical sites, and everywhere there are 'stories' , while all the time one feels that they have just stepped back somewhere in time. No wonder this haven is so difficult to leave, can't wait to return next year.
