Space 1,500 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

Nice Ocean And Harbor Views, 50 Yards To The Ocean

Brand new to the Phippsburg rental market!!! The Sand Dollar Cottage is a classic quaint Maine cottage in picturesque Maine fishing village. The first floor master bedroom has a queen size bed. There are two more bedrooms upstairs each with two twin beds.

There is a dining room and sitting area adjacent to the living room which has amazing views of the crashing ocean . The kitchen has everything you'd need. A full bathroom completes the first floor.

The location of the Sand Dollar Cottage in West Point makes an ideal “home base” for any vacation you choose. For those who “need to get away from it all” you can spend your entire vacation in West Point. Guests can lazily relax on our deck or perhaps take a short stroll to Cat Cove for swimming, shell collecting and tide pool exploring. Cat Cove is a great location to launch your kayaks for a day of exploring nearby harbors and islands. A short trail through the piney woods leads to a secluded rocky area that is fun to explore. Among the rocks are tide pools where some of the locals learned to swim. Look for sea creatures that are trapped in the pools! Bring your fishing poles for an early morning of fishing. The rocks are a good place to cast your line in. Be sure to keep a look out for eagles, loons, cormorants and seals! A Maine vacation must is fresh seafood for a lobster or clam bake. You can take a leisurely stroll down to the local lobster pound for the fresh catch of the day.

History: For those of you who enjoy more history and more activity, West Point and its surrounding areas provide just that. West Point is one of the oldest and scenic fishing villages in Maine. Many of the locals are descendants of the original fishermen who settled here. Close to West Point is historic Popham. Popham is one of the earliest English settlements during Colonial America being settled in 1607. Though it was unsuccessful it led to later settlement along the Maine coast. Popham State Beach is a beautiful 500 acre beach of white sand. It is definitely worth a visit. When the tide is out, you can walk across the beach to a nearby island. Fort Popham, from the Civil War years is close by and is ready to be explored.

The nearest city to West Point is Bath, “the City of Ships”. Maine’s first ships were built here in this area around 1607-1608. If you are interested in shipbuilding the Maritime Museum offers a glimpse into Maine’s boat building past.

Shopping and exploring: Quaint shops and restaurants make Bath a fun day trip. Boat rentals can be found in Bath for touring or fishing the Kennebec River. Golf courses are also in the area. To the north of Bath is Boothbay Harbor. It is another excellent day trip for vacationers! It has shops, restaurants and antiques. Whale watching, Puffin watching and lighthouse boating excursions are available at the wharf. Brunswick, another historic town nearby offers shopping, restaurants, Bowdoin College and the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum. L.L.Bean’s flagship store is located south in Freeport. It is opened 24 hours a day and is a good place to go on rainy days. Freeport also has many name brand outlets. Portland is about an hour away and has many historic sites, shopping and great restaurants as well.

After many request we now offer sea kayak rentals on site for exploring the coast and harbors. Both singles and tandems.

Classic Maine Cottage In A Beautiful Little Fishing Village
average rating of 4.125 based on 8 reviews

We loved the view. Upgrading the furnishings would be a plus. Thx Bill Martin for checking on us.

We loved the view. We were only there first thing in the morning and in the evenings. Upgrading the furnishings would be a big plus for this property. We had stayed in this area before.

Owner's Response: We are happy to hear that you all enjoyed the views from our property. We are sorry that you didn’t like the décor. We were going for a “Classic Maine Cottage” feel; we actually got a lot of the furniture from local antique shops. All of the beds are brand new this year. Our guest comfort and entire overall experience is our number one concern. We do appreciate your feedback.

Excellent Stay!

  • 5 of 5

Very clean and comfortable. Quiet and secluded but close to many activities. We came from Pennsylvania and had a family wedding at the nearby 1774 Inn so I wanted my husband, grown children and I to stay together. Searched HomeAway and found this cottage within our budget. Our stay was too short, only from Friday through Monday. There were 6 of us and we all were impressed. Within a short distance we were able to hike, visit the Maritime Museum (which was excellent!), visit the Portland Head Light (awesome). Bill (the caretaker) was very friendly and helpful and recommended the Morse Mountain hike which was impressive, thank you Bill. Would definitely recommend this place.

Basic accommodation

  • 2 of 5

Not up to scratch. We where a group of 5. We had to make up beds (may be a US thing?) badly fitting sheets. Two wine glasses only, no tea towels, bbq not been cleaned. TV not working, probably controller batteries. When you tried to use the dryer it fused the house. No outside dining area.

The proximity to our friends living on the Circle was its only benefit to us which was important.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry to hear that you felt our property wasn’t up to your expectations. I wish we would have known the issues while you stayed at our property. We could have addressed all of them on the spot! Our onsite property manager lives right across the street and I asked him about these issues and he said he knew nothing about them and he said he saw you often and you exchanged greetings every time with no complaints. We really do strive to make every one of our guest have the very best time while staying at any one of our five properties (all five are on the point). I can’t emphasize that enough to any future guest, if you every have an issue please let us know. We will happily address the issue right then and there. Let me address your specific issues, the bed sheets are kept in clear and sealed bags for our customers. We have been doing this for over nine years now and that is what we were taught by industry experts. This isn’t a hotel and guest can’t be sure the sheets were changed unless they see it is cleaned. We have had numerous guests complementing this practice which isn’t unique in the vacation rental industry. We clearly state that in the check-in letter we send to every guest staying at our properties, “your linens will be in sealed bags for your convenience”. Only two wine glasses? Wish you would have said something we could have easily given you more. There is supposed to be eight wine glasses, where the other six went, I don’t know. No tea towels? I assume you mean hand towel or wash cloths. They should have been with the linen package. We have plenty, wish I knew we could give you as many as you needed, sorry. BBQ not clean? I asked our cleaners and they said they always check the BBQ for cleanliness. I can’t argue that it wasn’t cleaned, if they missed it I apologize. Bad batteries in the TV remote, we have replacement batteries in our maintenance closet. I wish we knew, sorry. No Outside dining area? Not sure what you were looking for? We have a picnic table right outside the back sliding glass door right next to the fire pit overlooking the water. Again, we are truly sorry you didn’t have the experience you were looking for. I wish we had the opportunity to have made things better during your stay. Saying sorry now in my opinion is too late, I wish we could have addressed these issues before or during your stay when they were discovered. I can assure you these issues have been addressed and corrected.

Loved our stay

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in this cottage! It was spacious and clean. The view was great and it was close to Popham Beach. The kids loved playing on the rocks at Cat's Cove and took a swim there at high tide. We got lobsters down the street right off the boat. There was a pot there to cook them in and a picnic table out back to eat them on! Who could ask for more?

Mongomery, Texas

Quiet and relaxing place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

Me, my wife, daughter and 2 granddaughters spent a week here last week of May 2016. Came up from Austin, Texas area to spend time with family. Extremely relaxing area with lovely views of water and nature, went kayaking, hiking, had a fire pit in back yard, purchased Lobster a block away. John the owner was always there if you needed anything. Cottage was clean and comfortable, weather was great. Plan to return again next year.

Escape in Phippsburg

  • 3 of 5

The cottage has 1 bedroom and a nice full service bathroom dowstairs. Upstairs 2 bedrooms and one bathroom with small shower. Bathroom is in a bedroom and, door 3 feet from one bed; if people need to go at night the sleeper will be disturbed by the light and smell. Kitchen is good size but is not equiped with dishwasher. Vinyl covering is worned out. The cottage is a 300 feet walk from a small but nice cove. All things put together our stay was pleasant.
