House, 3 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)
We invite you to escape to this beautiful, very private traditional Ocean Front Hawaiian home, just minutes from downtown Kona and a wide variety of other attractions.
This 2850 square foot home is perfect for family gatherings with a large master bedroom, a queen-bed bedroom, a 'bonus room' with bunk beds, and two and half baths. There is an additional studio-style 'ohana' (apartment) that is attached to the main house that has a queen bed, private bath, kitchen, washer/dryer and private entrance. The home is furnished in a comfortable, casual Hawaiian theme...some of the furniture is hand-made by Hawaiian artists. There are ceiling fans throughout the house. The kitchen is well-appointed with everything necessary to cook and then some, such as a blender, rice cooker, etc.
Open the French doors that stretch across the front of the home to allow in the Trade Winds, a wonderful respite from A/C. During the day, take a trip to the volcano, go whale-watching, visit the restaurants and shops of downtown Kona, or go deep-sea fishing. There are fascinating tide pools in the lava rocks right behind the house that are home to sea turtles, crustaceans, and an abundance of small fish. This house is a short walk from the sandy beaches of Magic Sands, or a half mile drive to the protected lagoon known for snorkeling. Be prepared to see gorgeous fish and gentle sea turtles!
Make sure to be home in the early evening, around 6pm, to relax in the hammock or on the lounge furniture and catch the famous Hawaiian sunset while drinking a Mai Tai! (see recipe below). During the winter months, watch carefully for the migrating humpback whales that swim. and sometimes breach, right in front of the house. If you're not in the mood to make your own Mai Tai, walk two doors down to Jameson's restaurant, which has a five star ocean view and wonderful food.
At night, each bedroom is filled with the sounds of waves crashing onto the lava rocks. This property is gated and walled which lets you relax and think of nothing but being part of a tropical paradise.

About Kathy Johns
We love to travel and of course, stay in nice places. Over the years, we've taken our 2 children many places they'll never forget. We hope our Kona beach home will become one of those unforgettable memories in your travels as well.
Kathy Johns purchased this House in 1999
Why Kathy Johns chose Kahaluu-Keauhou
We came to Kona and fell in love with it, now we would like to share that with you.
What makes this House unique
It could not be more ocean-front than this, watching sea turtles, tropical birds, dolphins and whales while eating breakfast, remaining in the United States but feeling like you are a world away.
Sports & Adventure Activities
Close to magic sands and snorkeling.
View was amazing
We enjoyed our stay, the view was amazing. The house had 3 bedrooms in the main house which they only count as 2. The 3rd bedroom had a closet and a bunk bed in it, it was small but it was an additional bedroom great for kids. Plus there was an additional in-laws room with a kitchenette and additional washer and dryer. There was air conditioning in two of the main bedrooms in the house. We did not have any problems with the house, it was just a little outdated and could use some updating and maintenance. I don't think the pictures shown are the most current. It had everything we needed, plenty of snorkel gear to use. We enjoyed our stay! We saw a turtle from the deck everyday we were there. The TV in the family room needs to be replaced (2 vertical lines across the TV the entire time it is on) and there are no TV's in the bedrooms, however you are not in Hawaii to watch TV. We did watch a game one night!
Excellent home for a relaxing family vacation
Kathy's house was perfect for our extended family of eight adults. It's close enough to town to be convenient, but far enough away to be quiet. The ocean is all you hear at night. It was perfect.
A treat and retreat !
Totally met our expectations and needs.
Aloha and Mahalo
Great house with wonderful view
We really enjoyed our recent stay. The house was well stocked and clean. The property and ocean view was perfect for our vacation. Thank you so much! Hope we can return someday.
Large house on the ocean
Finding a large house on the ocean in Kona that we could afford was a challenge, but this house filled the bill! We will try to book this house again for our next adventure to the big island!
Tide pools with fish and sea turtles right off back wall. Walk to Magic Sands beach, 3 minutes away. We are very close, less than half mile away, to a beautiful public beach with protected lagoon for swimming and snorkeling.
