Overview

Birchwood House Rental Photos and Description

4 bedroom, 1 bath 2 half bath, sleeps 12

The historic Carriage House is part of the Stout Farm built in the early 1900s. It used to house some of the earliest automobiles ever built, with chauffeur's living quarters above the stalls. It has since been turned into a family home and is available for vacation rental. It is located on beautiful Red Cedar Lake just 5 miles south of Birchwood and 14 miles northeast of Rice Lake. This private home is just 50 feet from the waters edge with a wide covered walkway leading you from the front door, right down to the water with a large gazebo at the end for dining or just sitting and relaxing complete with table, chairs and gas grill. The dock is accessed directly from the gazebo, can hold two boats and has a swim ladder. The Boat landing is nearby. The gazebo now has a railing and gate.

The home has 2300 sq. ft., 4 bedrooms, 2-1/2 baths, living room, dining room, sunroom and large eat-in kitchen. it is fully equipped, including all linens, dishes, 3 TVs, VCR/DVD/Satellite, partial WIFI, coffee maker, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer, A/C, wood burning fireplace and great views from every room, most with views of the beautiful lake. You may also use the paddleboat, canoe and 14' row boat(without motor), and a small area for toddlers to play in the water (sand & small rocks). A pontoon is available to rent for $125/day or $500/week (first tank gas included) plus tax.

This is a popular clean, 1800 acre lake, with good fishing and several islands making it unique and picturesque. It also connects to Balsam Lake on the north and Hemlock Lake on the south, making for excellent exploring and more fishing spots. There are golf courses, restaurants, shopping and other attractions nearby.

See rates below. From early June to late August rentals are weekly from Saturday to Saturday. Other dates are available on a 3 day minimum basis.

Great Place and good weather. We brought two boats and there was plenty of room to park the trailers. The covered walk way to the dock was very nice in the afternoon when taking a break from fishing. Our party caught a lot of fish during the week we stayed. I recommend the boat launch about a mile north of the home. Concrete well into the water and well worth the $5.00 that covers put in and take out. Breck and Pat were gracious hosts during our stay and even lent us a hair dryer we forgot to bring and brought over a box of movies for our grandson.

Lakeside Oasis

We stayed for the first time at the Carriage House the last week in July. We've rented homes in this area of Wisconsin in both the winter and summer months for several years now. I realize everybody's idea of "ideal" varies a lot depending upon their group size, age and interests, but for our group this was as close to perfect as we'll get. It is the first time we are re-booking for the same house. The house was clean and very comfortable. We had a group of six; four adults and two teenagers. I was a little nervous about only having one shower, but that worked out fine and we never ran out of hot water. We've realized over the years that although the rental house and cleanliness is very important; more important to us is the lake access since we're there for the lake! This was second to none for lake access. We were fortunate to have a great weather week, but had we not, the covered, cemented walkway would have been appreciated even more. The gazebo at the end as a wonderful place for storage and for enjoying great lake views and breezes without the sun. Swimming off the dock was great - not weedy at all and very clear. The owners are close by, but leave you to rest and relax unless you ask for assistance. They are eager to please and accept feedback. We felt like we had plenty of privacy. Most of the homes we've rented have been more of an open concept floor plan, but we found we actually preferred the separate spaces in this home much better. We have some early risers, and others who sleep in. Either group could be up and about without disturbing the other. This is a gem that we hope to be able to rent for years to come. Thank you to Breck and Pat for offering this rental!

Nice setting for adult get a way.

  • 3 of 5

The Carriage House is a well stocked, clean vacation get a way home. Didn't have to bring anything but clothes, food and fish poles. The gazebo, the covered walk way to the gazebo and the beautiful lake make this a great place to stay. The only downside we found is it leaves a little to be desired for small children with no real beach, sand or toys and the owner charges full price over the age of one; and for teenagers, the wifi is spotty but if that isn't a problem for your family, we would highly recommend staying here.

Owner's Response: We are sorry that you were less than completely satisfied with your stay. We take guest reviews seriously and strive to improve based on guest feedback. The majority of our reservations are for family vacations. We do have a small area for young children to play in the water. It is sand and small rocks with grass on the shoreline. We intend to put a picture on the website. We also have children's games, puzzles, books, and are working on improving the Wi-Fi reception.

this property has a rich history and families who stay should study that history before going! it is always clean and inviting. the owners are investing $$$$ to update the exterior and as usual they were very accommodating! I would recommend this to any family as a private get away on a outstanding lake for relaxing, the fishing is ALWAYS tremendous! local restaurants especially in Birchwood are outstanding! Take the time to look into this fabulous home!

Peaceful, picturesque, and charming!

  • 5 of 5

WOW! every thing a family could ask for and very accommodating Owners! Quiet, yet close to everything- if you fish, there is no better lake in Wisconsin! The home is loaded with the amenities of our home, we missed nothing, if this is roughing it I will take more! The covered walkway to the dock, sitting under the covered gazebo in the evening, or just fishing from the dock this place has it all. The privacy of this home versus a cabin in a resort, there is nothing to compare. The beauty of this lake and surrounding area is second to none. My wife and I have been traveling to this area for well over 30 years and we have found nothing to compare this home and secret spot to. Whether you fish or not, this home and these owners will allow you to just relax!
