Guestbook comments from the owner

A very beautiful property with super nice accommodating owners. Great access to the lake and the ATV trails right from the front door. The deer walk right up to the back door everyday. Another few days and they would have been eating from our hands. Look no further if you are looking for a clean, private, spacious place to spend some time in the Moosehead Lake Region.

Great treetop views

Ladies weekend of relaxing. There ended up being 5 ladies and a few dogs, and everything went well.

Things we enjoyed: The daily arrival of deer, both in the front and back yard. The location to get to different areas of interest. Plenty of vehicle space as we all came and went on different days from many mid-coast cities.

Things we wish were different: Sharpness of knives in the kitchen. Better labeling of light switches. Every night it was a game to figure out which went with what. Washing of towels, had to stay an extra 2 hours because the dryer takes forever. Toaster was very temperamental and rarely worked. More toilet paper, luckily we brought some, but was surprised with how little came with the rental, as well as the hand soap in the bathroom upstairs.

Things we with wish had been there: A pizza cutter and spatula's for the kitchen. Lounge chairs and a table for sitting on the back deck. We would have enjoyed being outside more had there been better places to sit/lay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and the information you have provided. Glad we were able to host your girl's weekend. We certainly will look into the operation of the toaster and dryer. Your light labeling suggestion is an excellent one which we will implement as well as sharpening the knives. Spatulas and pizza cutter were available in the kitchen utensil draw. We supply two back up rolls per bathroom of toilet paper which is just a starter supply as well as trash bags, paper towel and basic kitchen items such as spices, oil , foils an plastics. Upon our arrival on your check out day, we realized all the deck furniture had not been put out . There is a deck table with six chairs, an awesome porch swing and several adirondack chairs normally available. Our sincerest apologies for this oversight. The deer family on property is fourth generation. It is a treat to have them daily. We are actually expecting the birth of twins from the doe this week !! Once again thank you for choosing our home for your vacation needs.

The house was a lovely home away from home

  • 5 of 5

The house has a nice atmosphere and has cozy furnishings and decor. I wouldn't say it was suitable for a child under 8 (lots of breakables and stairs). I loved the layout and the privacy of the house. The binder was very helpful and the fireplace was perfect for the cold weather outside. We were able to see deer further down the road and on the property it was pretty amazing. The people in the little community seem to be very friendly and there is a little bookshop I could spend hours in... don't miss it! Lovely stay, thank you Carol :)

Excellent Value

  • 5 of 5

This was our 15th 'Homeaway' and among the best, if not THE best value. For under 1K we rented this property for a week. In our experience similar properties are priced about 30% higher. Furthermore if you leave the place in good condition there are no added cleaning fees, which I've seen as high as $250. Kudos to the owner for making this possible. The place is very private, which is important to us. It's near the end of a dead end street. The fireplace is as pictured and comes with no shortage of beautiful dry firewood. The hot tub is nice too. We had hoped to do some ATVing as there is direct trail access, but the weather got in the way of that. Since it was just the two of us we didn't use the nicely finished basement-level with the two additional bedrooms. The top floor bedroom was comfortable, and the best view of the lake in the distance (I mentioned to the owner a standard round hand-rail to the top floor would be a plus for trips up and down in the middle of the night). And, ok, I read the note on the fridge about feeding the deer and didn't think too much about it ... until ... looking out the bathroom around dusk ... I see these two sets of big sad brown eyes looking back at me ... as if to say ... 'when are you going to feed me?' So, yes, we fed the deer the food provided. They're like dogs! They're there when you drive up at the end of the day running back and forth to their standard feeding spot waiting for their meal, which we obliged. It's very sweet (and maybe just a little disturbing - LOL).

A beautiful, tranquil, homey get-away!

  • 5 of 5

This home deserves our five star rating without a doubt. Having stayed at a number of home rentals over the years, we found this cozy cabin to be one of our favorites. It was as though we lived there ourselves as it had a fully stocked kitchen, books, movies, games, internet service, comfortable beds, plenty of wood for the two fireplaces (inside and out), and the owner even provided birdseed for the feeder and corn to feed the resident deer. Our stay was during the peak foliage of beautiful Maine and we were able to enjoy a breathtaking view from a clean hot tub overlooking Moosehead Lake while a family of deer were walking the grounds. It was tranquil and very quiet there. We loved the woodsy decor throughout the home and especially enjoyed the deck off the upstairs bedroom where we watched the moon set over the lake in the early morning. What more is there to say? It was truly a warm and inviting place to get away from the hustle of life. The owner was very nice, extremely helpful, and accommodating. We plan to return and highly recommend it to anyone.

Just a great house in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

The pictures just can't do this house justice. It's beautiful wood interior and vaulted ceilings are a perfect compliment to the stellar views to the west of the lake and the sunsets. If you like piece and quiet, which is only interrupted by the sounds of nature, then you'll love it. The house is impeccably decorated and the living room is warm and comfortable. The upstairs master bedroom has outstanding views and a comfy sleep number mattress. The delicious clear well water was another treat. Sitting out on the deck at night and viewing the Milky Way in all of its glory was also something special. Honestly, I can't think of enough good things to say about our stay. It's just the perfect place to discover a beautiful area.
