Hi,I am John English.I would like to share a memory with you.I remember as a child vacationing with my family at my Uncles home in Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. Those weeks spent in an extended family environment were such a special time with the best of memories! With those memories in mind I embarked upon building a home that would allow me to duplicate the type of atmosphere I grew up with.We constructed and developed the site for multiple families to share and enjoy. Areas large enough to enjoy together ,and yet with ample space to retreat to and enjoy private quieter times.
My kids, who are now 33-21 all remember their childhood vacations there in the same way I did.As young adults they are continuing that tradition as well, living with close family friends, relatives and grandparents(me!!)
Nancy purchased this house in 1984
I was lucky enough to find the property our home is built on, 2.5 acres of undeveloped pristine waterfront at great value. The house and beach are positioned to enjoy the beautiful sunsets. Our home is located on a peninsula with a 180 degree vista of water. 800' of shoreline to sun yourself as if you were in Bermuda or shade yourself under the majestic trees of a New England Forest.
The time spent here can not be duplicated on a family afternoon visit, which is what most of us are restricted to.We have decided to make our home available for other families and close friends to have the special times we have been blessed with all our lives.
Our home is not a business it is our own special personal space and we hope that you feel the warm peacefulness and family reflecting time there that we have.
The house was perfect for our family(up to 18 members, all ages) Everything was included that we needed (or wanted!)and in perfect condition.Swimming in front of house was very nice, tennis courts nearby an added attraction, and canoe in constant use,as were fishing equipment( a nice touch)
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for all the comforts of home, together with the luxury of lovely vacation surroundings.Thank you!!
This was one of the best houses that we have rented, it was amazing!!! We had rented other homes previously, but by far this was the best. The rooms were all good size, there was planty of space around the house to socialize. The house is located right on the lake, with beautiful sunset views. Kids and adults stayed down by the lake all weekend, kayaking, canoeing, fishing and relaxing at night by the fire pit. The homeowner Nancy was amazing to deal with she answered all out questions and even greeted us at the house when we got there to show us around. She was so nice she even called the next day too see if everything was OK and if we are enjoying ourselves. We will definitely be back. Loved everything about this Lake house.
My siblings and spouses have been doing a sibling get away for 3 years now. this is the first time we selected the catskills for our long weekend. We chose this house due to the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. Each couple had their own private bath, which is very difficult to find in vacation homes. We also liked the location to Hunter Mountain, where we wanted to try the zipline, which was phenomenal in itself. The home is located on Sleepy Hollow lake with its own private beach. We also had access to 4 kayaks and a canoe and other lake toys. We never in our wildest dreams thought we would be able to enjoy the lake due to the timing of our get away which was 3rd weekend in sept. The weather was perfect to utilize the small intimate lake. The house also has a large hot tub and many areas where you could sit either in or outside. The house is located near Hudson river and there were several small towns to explore, but really did not due to the perfect setting of the home on Sleepy Hollow Lake. We didn't want to leave the home. We all lamented when we got home, how we missed this house.!!!!!! Nancy Dorn, one of the owners, was extremely attentive to my multiple questions prior to renting. She was so thorough at the time of check-in, we really did not need her again, but knew if we needed anything she would be there in a minute. I truly and sincerely recommend this house rental especially if you are looking for a home that can comfortably accommodate several family units. The location is an added bonus.
This was a spacious property, so well suited for our family gathering. We have rented many times and I can honestly say I have never experienced an owner/manager that was so attentive to our questions and requests and committed to making sure we had everything we needed. Nancy was terrific!
We had a spectacular time together! Because of distance, our extended family (14 of us, 8 adults and 6 children) had never before been able to have everyone together. We searched the web for a long time until coming across this property and its positive reviews. Our communications with Nancy began long before our arrival, and she was very detailed in describing what her house and the lake had to offer. From the glistening lake, to the spacious grounds, to the well-lighted walkway, to the house that was configured “just right” for us, to Nancy’s amazing responsiveness, we came away with many great memories of a fabulous vacation. The layout was just what we needed, with each of four families having their own space for themselves and their children. Shopping, even for our last minute needs, was nearby (@20 minutes). The beachfront on the property itself and the beachfront and pool run by the lake were great. We almost feel like thanking Nancy for the weather! She was marvelous, on the spot and available to answer any question. Our families had a great time and our grandchildren have a great story to tell when asked, “What did you do last summer?” Thanks, Nancy!

The properly is lovely. The house has plenty of space, really convenient, and very well organized. The owner is a very nice person ready to offer her help. We had a great experience.
Our extended family group (three generations, 13 people age 10-80s) couldn’t stop ooh-ing and aah-ing. There was plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable, from the basement bunkroom to the six main-floor bedrooms and multiple gathering spaces indoors and out. The ranch-style layout allowed the older folks to enjoy the house completely—a major plus for our family. And five full baths meant there was never a wait.
We took full advantage of Sleepy Hollow Lake and the house’s private, well-kept gravel beach. A tree-covered, grassy slope runs down to the lake, with a well-lit wooden pathway as well as a discreet driveway you can use to get to the water. We had four kayaks, a canoe, and plenty of inflatables and pool noodles at our disposal.
With weather on the cool side, some of us took a few day trips, including hikes in the Catskills, an architecture tour of Athens, a hang-out in funky Hudson across the river, and a browse through the storied Rodgers Book Barn (a must for used-book lovers). But other family members were happy just reading, playing games, shooting pool, and spending time together in our beautiful temporary home.
Nancy did take great care to make sure we’d feel at home. Everything we needed – right down to the bath and beach towels – was there for us. She was a terrific host, never intrusive but always available when we had a question or needed help. For example, when we experienced a brief power outage one night, Nancy talked us calmly through the process of finding candles and flashlights, even though she had lost power too.
It was so difficult to tear ourselves away, we’re already comparing calendars in hopes of returning next year!
