Casa Catalina is a beautiful colonial home designed by two of San Miguel's finest architects. With its beautiful gardens, large terrace, warm colonial colors and tasteful furnishings, Casa Catalina provides the perfect surroundings for relaxing and entertaining.
The home has a fabulous kitchen, three bedrooms, each with a full bathroom and roomy closet, a study, four fireplaces, a living room and a great room. The home includes a cook, housekeeper, and a gardener, who keep Casa Catalina impeccably clean. The home also includes a modern ultra violet filtration system for water purification.
This colonial gem was designed with charm, tranquility and privacy in mind. As soon as you walk through the antique wooden entry doors, you can feel the home’s incredible energy. You’re greeted by the sound of a trickling fountain and a charming courtyard with lush greenery that provides a striking contrast against a beautiful stone wall. Just ahead the home beckons, with its warm colonial colors, high ceilings, and tasteful furnishings.
The colonial kitchen opens to an informal family room where you can enjoy meals with friends and family, or watch a movie or listen to a favorite CD. You can sit in the patio just off the kitchen for a relaxing breakfast or lunch prepared by Casa Catalina’s delightful cook.
The three bedrooms upstairs provide comfort and privacy, each with its own full bathroom, closet, and TV for private time. All beds have non allergenic pillows, and clean, seasonal covers.
The study provides quiet time if you need to work, with a high speed, wireless internet connection, and a separate, dedicated telephone with a U.S. phone number for FREE unlimited calls to/from the U.S. and Canada.
The study is also a nice place curl up with a good book, while enjoying the natural light and breeze from the windows that overlook patios on either side.
In the afternoon the terrace is inviting for a gathering of friends for aperitifs, while you enjoy the sounds of San Miguel as they fill the air—church bells, birds, music, and fun.
Casa Catalina is just a short walk to the Instituto Allende, La Parroquia, the Jardin, Parque Juarez, and to many of San Miguel’s fabulous restaurants, night spots, shopping, museums, galleries, and much more.

When we first walked into Casa Catalina we knew it was a magical place. The wonderful energy that fills this house is indescribable. Every vacation we've enjoyed with our children in this beautiful home has been a treasure. We've hosted friends in this house from all over the world and they've been grateful to have enjoyed a stay in San Miguel in a house that is truly amazing.
This home is quiet, clean, and beautiful. The furnishings are tasteful and comfortable. The house has great places to relax, read, or work (if you must). Sara is a fabulous cook, and will prepare delicious breakfasts, wonderful lunches, and snacks.
From the moment I arrived in San Miguel I knew I was someplace special. Then I walked through the door into Casa Catalina and it was clear everything about the week to come would be memorable. The minute you walk in the door, Casa Catalina is perfection. From the waiting meal prepared by the kind staff for us after our long journey to the various patios and comfortable rooms throughout the home it was clear to me this home was loved and cared for. San Miguel itself is such a charming place and Casa Catalina captures the charm of the location perfectly. The town and surrounding areas (Guanajuato, pyramids, etc) are picturesque and full of history. After a day full of sightseeing, to return back to this home to relax in the library for some game time or have a cocktail on the roof deck was the cherry on top of each day. My week with friends could not have been any better from start to finish and Casa Catalina and it's wonderful staff was the perfect choice for a relaxing and memorable week. I wouldn't change a thing.
I've been remiss about writing about our stay in San Miguel and this particular house thru the 1st part of December. Our trip was truly the best we have had since we have been visiting San Miguel since I was in college in Mexico City 50 years ago. Everything came together and the wisest decision was this house. We were happy to arrive from Mexico City after spending Thanksgiving there. It's hard to describe the comfort, security and the wonderful staff on hand. Carolina and Jackie are jewels. Cooked, washed and just took care of us. Accommodations were superb, 3 bedroom each with their ample bathrooms. Location ideal to walk anywhere or catch a cab. We were there for a family celebration with people staying at various locations. All envied our choice. Hopefully we will be returning this coming year my 10 y/o grandson loved it !! We have stayed in many places over the years but this tops most of them.
Our family visited this beautiful, charming home in 2013 for a week's stay. Our family loved it so much, we decided to return in 2014 for two weeks! Casa Catalina is very warm and welcoming, the attention to detail is impressive. You actually feel as though this is your home and not a 'rental'. The staff took great care of us and our dietary needs. The location is ideal in San Miguel, being close to shopping, restaurants and the Jardin (the main square). We highly recommend Casa Catalina and we hope to visit again soon! Thank you for taking great care of our family on vacation!
My family and I stayed at Casa Catalina in San Miguel de Allende this past September and absolutely fell in love with the city and this amazing home. From the moment we walked in the door of this beautiful home, we felt very comfortable and super relaxed. We arrived late after a long day of travel so having a delicious homemade soup waiting for us, was perfect. That evening, we also enjoyed some homemade salsa, guacamole, and chips along with fresh fruit. What a treat!
Casa Catalina was extremely clean and elegantly decorated. The fresh cut flowers added a lovely touch throughout the house. The staff (cook, housekeeper, gardener) was extremely friendly and helpful. The meals Carolina cooked were absolutely delicious and healthy. Every morning, we had fresh fruit as well as fresh squeezed orange juice or pineapple juice. Delicious! The housekeeper did a fantastic job of keeping the entire house super clean. The gardens were filled with spectacular flowers and plants, which made it so tropical. The house was very well equipped, which included WiFi. They thought of everything!
The city itself was very quaint, historical, and with very friendly people. The restaurants never disappointed with so many to choose from. Amazing meals!
We were able to squeeze in many activities in just one week but there's so much more to see. We went to the nearby pyramids, hot springs (La Gruta), downtown farmers market, El Jardin (the garden) to listen to music, Guanajuato day trip (mummy museum), and also took two dance lessons at Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Super fun! I would highly recommend taking the walking tour (2.5 hours). The tour guides are retired Americans who volunteer their time to benefit children's health programs. The $15 tour fees are donated to Patronato Pro Ninos, which provides medical and dental care for children living in the poor villages of San Miguel. Watch their online video which provides information on the services they provide to children living in poverty. Great cause.
We would love to return to San Miguel de Allende and would again stay at Casa Catalina. Thank you for your hospitality. Loved it all!
Casa Catalina is a gem. We spent a week in this beautiful home with two other couples. The home is tastefully furnished, beautifully maintained and the staff anticipates your every need. We arrived late to discover a meal waiting for us. There were several big arrangements of gladioli which accented the beauty of the home. We truly felt welcome.
Each day Carolina prepared a delicious breakfast from a menu that had many choices. Angelica kept the house spotless, took care of our rooms and did whatever laundry we had left out.
One day we enjoyed a walking tour, others we explored on our own. We went to Santa Rosa and Dolores Hidalgo to the pottery factories, to the city of Guanajuato, and to San Miguel's own market. We bought beautiful pottery and glassware, punched tin, linens, jewelry, hats and clothing. One evening we went to a cooking class where we prepared and ate some wonderful dishes. It was great fun for both the men and the women.
And speaking of food, we soon discovered that there were more outstanding restaurants than we had time to try -- virtually all within easy walking distance from Casa Catalina. The amazing thing about this home is that it is quiet and relaxing and comfortable and yet near to everything.
We look forward to returning to Casa Catalina -- and especially to breakfast in the charming patio off the kitchen, cocktails in the lovely rooftop garden, and just the right mix of activity and relaxation.
A beautiful home, just as described in the listing. Very clean and well maintained, with very helpful and capable staff (cook, housekeeper, gardener). I would definitely recommend Casa Catalina to a friend or relative.
The location is central and makes it possible to walk into the centre of town easily, though taxis are cheap and easy to find.
We very much enjoyed the guitar duets of Jack and Frances at Los Milagros on Calle Reloj. Our favorite dining experience was eating on the patio at the Institut Allende ... wonderful ambiance.
San Miguel de Allende is a walking town, well-known for its many galleries, shops, antique stores, music, exhibits, and festivals. Take language, art, or cooking classes at the various institutes. For golfers, there are excellent courses, including one designed by Jack Nicklaus. Tennis players can enjoy competing on several clay courts around town. Located a few minutes from town, the natural hot springs are a unique and wonderful place to relax.
