About Ross W

We moved to Galveston from the DFW area in 2005. Started buying and remodeling homes for vacation rentals in 2007. We fell in love with Galveston and all the people on the Island. We have very much enjoyed sharing our homes with guests coming for a visit to Galveston.

Ross W purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Ross W chose Galveston

The home is in a perfect location. Central to everything on the Island. It is a short walk to the beaches, and about 1/2 mile to the new Pleasure Pier.

Loved our stay

  • 4 of 5

The property was perfect for our family. I completely understand that it was a remodel but it was great. My kids did get locked in the upstairs bathroom from time to time (the door sticks) but other than that it was great.

Like I said we are already looking at the summer date openings to book another stay. For us it's location was perfect.

I also really enjoyed and was impressed by your response time via text messaging. I read another one of your reviews and they said the same thing so that is how I knew to text for a quicker response.

Let me first say that I normally do not write reviews. I love reading them and definitely make decisions off them, but I'm not the sort to go and inspire everyone by my creative prose.

Let's start with the good: you can't get a better location than this rental property. In fact, this unit also has a large garage which definitely makes you feel safer knowing your vehicle is tucked away from the street next to the Seawall. Overall, as far as I could tell this unit could comfortably sleep 7 before you start pulling apart couches and sleeping bags. We also really enjoyed the split level because the kids were situated downstairs and we never had to hear them when they were playing while we wanted to take an afternoon nap.

Sadly, that's the only positive feedback...

When we arrived (around 9pm) we immediately noticed pillows which were without pillowcases and had that lovely yellow/brown ring that you only get after years of service (or never using pillowcases). We thought that was bad, yet we found even more disturbing biohazard business when we pulled the master bedroom comforter back altering us to a urine stain the size of a Mini Cooper which could only have come from a grown human being...

Hmmmmmm..... If your thinking at this point that this is the worse part of the review you are sadly mistaken and are in for a treat!

So now we scoured every possible sleeping surface in the rental property and found lots of unique biohazard nuggets that usually belong in a trauma ward after an Ebola and knife fighting outbreak. There were puke and blood stains all over the plastic mattress pads downstairs.

Just when you think, fine, lets just make the best of things and settle in with some tv? Hold on, the cable doesn't work and the ceiling fans have a delightful coating of dust bunnies an inch thick. So neat, right?

Of course by this point we had already sent several photos up to Instagram and the owner of the property which if your thinking would actually get some sort of immediate response then you are unfortunately mistaken. We didn't receive a callback until the next morning from the owner who stated that he would come out to the property and wash the comforter. Unfortunately, he must have been thinking of Singapore time because we didn't see him until 6pm the next day.

You might be wondering as to what finally got him out to look at our issues? Sadly, a leak in the downstairs toilet (the nice wax ring that seals the toilet to the floor).

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. I appreciate being informed of things wrong with the property. I have already discussed the issues you pointed out. Since I did not receive a text stating an emergency, as I ask on my voice mail, I did not respond until the next morning. Once I contacted you and we discussed the issues, I told you I would come get the comforter. You said not to worry about it, that you just wanted to let me know. Okay, If you felt it was a real problem you should have not said to not worry about it. The small stain turned out to OJ and it washed out immediately. As for all the bio-hazard materials...possibly a dead roach or maybe a dustbunny under the bed. All the pillows on the beds are new, the ones left out had not been covered and they have been thrown out. Short and sweet of it, the cleaning staff made a mistake and have been spoken to. I do not run over to the home unless there is an emergency or you need me for something and ask me to come. Like a toilet leaking. A good maintenance man was right there and found no problem with the toilet. Kids possibly splashing around in it, or missed hitting it. No repairs needed. We try to ensure that everything is as perfect as it can be. Thanks for reading the review and response. Richard D
