Water front with private dock access to tidal pond, estuary & Nantucket Sound

About the property

2 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, sleeps 4, open LR/DR area, all on one floor

Our waterfront cottage was renovated inside and out; provides a large deck and shaded patio with amazing bird watching & scenic views over tidal Taylor's Pond; shares our private dock with owner's cottage for boating and kayaking; and is an easy 4/10th mile walk or bike ride to Cockle Cove beach. The cottage has gleaming hardwood floors, a light “beachy” décor, renovated bath with kohler fixtures, ceramic tile & tub/shower combination, a large private outdoor shower, two bedrooms (one with queen and one with 2 twin beds), a bright open living/dining floor plan, well-equipped kitchen, one bedroom with a queen and one with two twin beds and a partial basement for storing bikes, kayaks and other large gear. Full sized washer and dryer in basement and off-street parking for 2 cars. Cottage is accessible for seniors or those who have difficulty with stairs.

Taylor's Pond is an ancient “kettle pond” that has been connected to Nantucket Sound by the sea. It has tidal salt water and supports amazing seasonal bird populations, including herons, egrets, ospreys, king fishers, geese, etc. Striped bass and blues visit on the spring and fall high tides to chase schools of bait fish. You can kayak, canoe, paddle board or boat in the pond from our private dock; or connect through the Mill Creek channel into a large estuary/marsh and out into Nantucket Sound.

Cockle Cove Beach (a short 4/10 mile walk or ride down the hill) is one of Chatham's best town beaches with no stairs & easy accessability, expansive room for jogging/beach combing; warm, calm & safe swimming; and clamming & surf casting.

This great South Chatham location provides safe, quiet 'away from it all' ambiance, but is within 10 minutes' drive of the best shopping, dining and local club venues in Chatham & Harwich Port and exit 11 on the mid-Cape hwy. On the Cape's 'elbow,' it is 30-40 minutes from the bridges as well as Hyannis, the national seashore and P Town.

Quaint cottage in perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in the Shea's cottage on Taylor Pond. Beautiful views from the deck. Relaxing and peaceful setting. We are a family of 4 and had plenty of room. We brought our small motorized inflatable to use on the pond and had a great time exploring the waters. We did not use the kitchen much, except for coffee and breakfast, but it seemed well equipped.

Chatham was a perfect choice for our first stay on the Cape. Beautiful town center with shops and restaurants. Easy drives from town to town. Ventured to Ptown for shopping and whale watching (Dolphin Fleet-highly recommend!). Ate more seafood than we thought possible.

Mr. And Mrs. Shea were excellent landlords. Super friendly, recommended many things to do and were more than willing to speak with us several times before our stay.

If you are looking for peace and relaxation you will not be disappointed!

Owner's Response: We're pleased you enjoyed your vacation here at our upper cottage, and appreciate the opportunity for getting to know you. The tidal pond, the estuary, Cockle Cove beach and Nantucket Sound are beautiful, especially when accessed by boat from our dock. Chatham and the surrounding towns have many great restaurants & attractions for visitors; and the easy access up Rt 6 or Rt 28 to the National Seashore and Provincetown whale watching help maximize your fun rather than sitting in traffic. We hope you return. tom & sharon shea- renters then owners for 37 years

Ideally located for access to the entire Cape with a gorgeous panoramic view of a gorgeous cove

If you are seeking luxury, this cottage is not for you. If you are, however, seeking an absolutely perfectly located (centered between Chatham and Harwich), cozy cottage with everything a smaller family needs and an absolutely postcard perfect view of Cockle Cove where you can drink your morning coffee on the deck while watching sea birds circle and dive for fish, see thousands of fiddler crabs along the dock at low tide, and if adventurous as we were strike off on your (own) canoe or boat through the salt marshes and even to the beach then this IS your rental!

The home is clean and well kept. It is not large, the furniture is a bit dated but there is TV with satellite, good, fast WIFI with coverage on the deck, and the location is quiet, quaint, beautiful and most importantly it puts you pretty much exactly mid-cape. Drives to either the Hyannis area or anywhere on the National Seashore and all points in between are easy, and relatively short.

Cockle Cove beach is just down the street and walk-able or bike-able though we chose to put our gear in the canoe and paddle over checking out the sea and bird life in the marshes on the way. Cockle cove beach is nice, though a bit (not terribly) rocky in comparison to the National Seashore beaches. The cove is well sheltered though and the shallow water goes on and on with gentle or no waves so it is ideal for smaller children.

There are plenty of restaurants of all kinds (we are from NJ and pizza snobs- ember just down 28 was not bad for non -NJ pizza when you need a break from the seafood), ice cream places, and a huge, well stocked, very nice Stop & Shop is extremely close by.

Chatham is great for walking/shopping and dont miss the fishing pier to see seals snacking on scraps as fishermen unload their catches. 5 minutes from the cottage. Hyannis is about a half hour but it is an easy half hour with tons to look at. Dont miss Hyannis- awesome harbor and great shops and restaurants. National Seashore is about the same if you take 28, less if you jump on 6 for a few minutes. The owners were great to deal with throughout the rental process and we had the pleasure of meeting them during our stay- great people!

This cottage is a perfect, comfortable, ideally located home base with all the amenities you need, nothing more or less and a milliion dollar view from your deck or dining table to start and end each day ! It was perfect and exactly as described in the listing.

Owner's Response: Dear Bob: Enjoyed meeting you and your family, hearing about your adventures and now reading your enthusiastic review. So glad you enjoyed yourselves! We too rented here as a "small family" (for over 20 years) before purchasing the cottages, modernizing and equipping them for a super vacation experience. For many years we vacationed with Tom's parents (who rented the second cottage.) Great memories of Cockle Cove Beach, the Pond, boating and nature's beauty. This is a great central location from which to easily access the best of Chatham, Harwich and the many attractions throughout the mid and outer Cape.

Lovely, cozy, quiet -- and the views of the pond are lovely. A 15 minute walk to the ocean beach -- which is not heavily-populated ---
