We had an AMAZING time this summer. We are from the Roanoke area and we wanted to do something different for our vacation this year. We have used VRBO in the past for beach vacations and thought we would give it a try at Smith Mtn Lake. The house did not disappoint. The dock was great, the cove was calm and the scenery was just beautiful! We had 6 of us in the house & it didn't seem like we were on top of each other at all. Our adult children and their boyfriend/girlfriend were with us and we had PLENTY of room to spread out. We rented a boat from a marina that was literally around the bin from the place & was able to enjoy the lake. We all agreed that this was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had. We were able to take the dogs this time and they simply enjoyed it. The fench was very handy! CON: The kitchen is kinda small but functional and the grill outside kept catching fire when we tried to use it. Also, a glass table down on the dock had broken during a recent storm and we were told they were going to bring a new one for us to enjoy but they never did.
We've stayed in many houses through Homeaway and VRBO but never had to provide our own sheets and bathing towels. I had to actually go buy single bed sheets because I didn't have that size at my house. Also there is a skylight right over the master bed so at 6am when the sun comes up - BAM you are awake. Not something I wanted to do on vacation. The upkeep on the dock looked extensive and we enjoyed having our boat right their for us to hop in everyday plus the Tiki bar was great with cable even on water level with a mini-fridge. All nice but we found some mouse droppings and was worried that our two year old grand daughter might find them too. The main attraction is the lake here.. don't look for 5 star dining anywhere near. Plan on cooking but the kitchen was laid out well and the dining area is perfect for a family… On our last day we went to return the key and the agent wasn't there & they didn't have drop box so we had to leave the keys (and the binder folder - which was weird) leaning against the door on a pretty trafficked road. It didn't inspire confidence. They should really rethink the sheet and bath towel thing… I will return to the lake but not necessarily to this house.. lovely though it was.
The family and friends spent 5 days at Dock Holiday. We had visitors and friends during the day and the water front was the place to be. Plenty of room for all. The house was comfortable, the decks and docks allowed for lots of family time, fishing was pretty good, floating in the cove was relaxing, boating near the mountain was very easy and close and the house had everything we needed. All and all the property was great.
