We invite you to escape to this beautiful, very private traditional Ocean Front Hawaiian home, just minutes from downtown Kona and a wide variety of other attractions.
This 2850 square foot home is perfect for family gatherings with a large master bedroom, a queen-bed bedroom, a 'bonus room' with bunk beds, and two and half baths. There is an additional studio-style 'ohana' (apartment) that is attached to the main house that has a queen bed, private bath, kitchen, washer/dryer and private entrance. The home is furnished in a comfortable, casual Hawaiian theme...some of the furniture is hand-made by Hawaiian artists. There are ceiling fans throughout the house. The kitchen is well-appointed with everything necessary to cook and then some, such as a blender, rice cooker, etc.
Open the French doors that stretch across the front of the home to allow in the Trade Winds, a wonderful respite from A/C. During the day, take a trip to the volcano, go whale-watching, visit the restaurants and shops of downtown Kona, or go deep-sea fishing. There are fascinating tide pools in the lava rocks right behind the house that are home to sea turtles, crustaceans, and an abundance of small fish. This house is a short walk from the sandy beaches of Magic Sands, or a half mile drive to the protected lagoon known for snorkeling. Be prepared to see gorgeous fish and gentle sea turtles!
Make sure to be home in the early evening, around 6pm, to relax in the hammock or on the lounge furniture and catch the famous Hawaiian sunset while drinking a Mai Tai! (see recipe below). During the winter months, watch carefully for the migrating humpback whales that swim. and sometimes breach, right in front of the house.
At night, each bedroom is filled with the sounds of waves crashing onto the lava rocks. This property is gated and walled which lets you relax and think of nothing but being part of a tropical paradise.

I wanted to thank you for the fantastic accommodations during our recent stay in Kona. They exceeded our expectations, and we did not miss a single sunset…and the sea turtles even showed up a few times!
I will definitely be in touch if my travels take me to the Big Island again!
I almost hate to write such a positive review, since it increases the chances that the house won't be available next time we want to stay. Sharing is the right thing to do, however.
The house is very welcoming. There's nothing stiff or formal about it, and it feels like home right away. The master bedroom is exquisite, and the other two are quite serviceable. There's also a separate ohana unit, which can stand alone, with its own kitchen, TV etc. The house is very well equipped.
I also love the location, about five miles south of Kailua, close to Magic Sands Beach. MSB is always crowded, but there's a lovely little uncrowded beach with good breeze just two doors down. What with Sam Choy's and the KTA supermarket two miles south, you can go for days without going near a t-shirt shop. If you prefer to be up in the thick of it, you're only minutes away.
The best thing about the house is its very wide (100"?) lanai along the water. The intrepid can swim and snorkel off the lava rocks. The rest of us can watch the sea turtles and schools of fish just off the lanai.
You'll be very glad if you choose to stay here.
If you want to be close to the ocean, this is the place. Wave spray from sea wall on the car every morning, turtles & fish always in view, dolphins at a distance every day. House is older but very clean & well kept. If the surf is low (which was only our 1st day) you can snorkel right from the house. Great central location in Kona.
We had a very enjoyable time at the Pineapple house. The best part was the ocean waves constantly rushing to shore and watching the sea turtle and other sea life off the front patio. We loved the weather and the house was very comfortable. Nothing fancy, but the beds were comfortable. The kitchen was minimally stocked with mismatched dishes and pots and pans but we managed to get by, even though we are "foodies".
We would definitely come back if time and $$ allow it.
We stayed here with 3 generations of family, including teens. It was beyond perfect. Very roomy and quiet. The Ohana is private and cozy with full appliances. The house is well stocked with a huge kitchen. The back porch and Lanai were even better than the pictures. Sitting out there right on the ocean was so beautiful that we had to tear ourselves away to do our sightseeing and activities. We saw turtles and whales and the surf sounds were mesmerizing.
We hope to go back soon!
My favorite time was enjoying my coffee from the lanai. The view at sunset is absolutely perfect, and we actually got to see the "green flash." We were greeted by Turtles, and dolphins daily, and got to see a whale pod. The location is close to downtown and just a stroll to the beach. We would definitely book here again.
Great older home that has been very well maintained. The location couldn't have been any better and the fact that the house is right on the ocean with fantastic lava tidal pools allowed us to watch and admire many sea turtles during our stay. Kathy was fantastic during the booking and providing us with easy to understand instructions regarding the gate code, key box, etc. The only minor issue is a lack of central air conditioning. During our visit, the Kona temperature was HOT and the lack of central air was a mild inconvenience. The Master Bedroom did have a window unit that was a savior. Usual summer temperatures are rarely this hot, so there usually is no need for air conditioning. I'd recommend Kathy's lovely home to anyone wanting to stay near Kona (about a 5 minute drive from the home).
Tide pools with fish and sea turtles right off back wall. Walk to Magic Sands beach, 3 minutes away. We are very close, less than half mile away, to a beautiful public beach with protected lagoon for swimming and snorkeling.
