Overview

Kona Coast House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 6

We invite you to escape to this beautiful, very private traditional Ocean Front Hawaiian home, just minutes from downtown Kona and a wide variety of other attractions.

This 2850 square foot home is perfect for family gatherings with a large master bedroom, a queen-bed bedroom, a 'bonus room' with bunk beds, and two and half baths. There is an additional studio-style 'ohana' (apartment) that is attached to the main house that has a queen bed, private bath, kitchen, washer/dryer and private entrance. The home is furnished in a comfortable, casual Hawaiian theme...some of the furniture is hand-made by Hawaiian artists. There are ceiling fans throughout the house. The kitchen is well-appointed with everything necessary to cook and then some, such as a blender, rice cooker, etc.

Open the French doors that stretch across the front of the home to allow in the Trade Winds, a wonderful respite from A/C. During the day, take a trip to the volcano, go whale-watching, visit the restaurants and shops of downtown Kona, or go deep-sea fishing. There are fascinating tide pools in the lava rocks right behind the house that are home to sea turtles, crustaceans, and an abundance of small fish. This house is a short walk from the sandy beaches of Magic Sands, or a half mile drive to the protected lagoon known for snorkeling. Be prepared to see gorgeous fish and gentle sea turtles!

Make sure to be home in the early evening, around 6pm, to relax in the hammock or on the lounge furniture and catch the famous Hawaiian sunset while drinking a Mai Tai! (see recipe below). During the winter months, watch carefully for the migrating humpback whales that swim. and sometimes breach, right in front of the house.

At night, each bedroom is filled with the sounds of waves crashing onto the lava rocks. This property is gated and walled which lets you relax and think of nothing but being part of a tropical paradise.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I wanted to thank you for the fantastic accommodations during our recent stay in Kona. They exceeded our expectations, and we did not miss a single sunset…and the sea turtles even showed up a few times!

I will definitely be in touch if my travels take me to the Big Island again!

BEAUTIFUL HOME!

  • 5 of 5

We had a big group of 3 couples and an auntie on the island together from various places on the mainland and this place was PERFECT. Being so close to the ocean is so incredible. It’s a good layout for a group since the home is long and spread out- but really you spend most of the time on the lanai so the rooms are just for sleeping. I've stayed in tons of rentals in Kona and this place is really special. We were dodging a hurricane so the waves were huge and dramatic and beautiful. And to finish a long day of exploring the island under the stars on the rock wall was so glorious. It was truly an experience, especially coming from NYC and LA we don’t see skies like that!— One night we also saw a huge comet-like UFO looking thing that turned out to be a satellite reentering the atmosphere (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jocj1q2mkSs it looked 10x as big!) but to those of us on that lanai over the ocean, it was just supernatural and magical. Most mornings a pod of dolphins would swim by and jump and play in the water! The kitchen is good- for foodies it could use a few more amenities, and the coffee maker was quirky, but it all worked for us and we were able to make big family meals with ease! I still fell in love with this home, as did our whole group, so we think of it fondly and I highly recommended to those coming to visit Kona!

Great Vacation House.

  • 5 of 5

The property is very nice. It is right on the ocean with great sunset views, sea turtles swimming just below sea wall, dolphins jumping, and whales breaching a few hundred yards offshore. The setting is beautiful and there is a sand beach within an easy five minute walk from the house. The house is well maintained with plenty of beach and snorkeling equipment provided. The owner is very responsive. The one minor electrical problem we encountered was corrected the same day we reported it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

Great week in Kona!

  • 5 of 5

The house was just like it looked in the pictures. It had everything you needed to have a fun vacation. It was clean and very comfortable. If there was one down fall, it was that they only had air conditioning in one room. It wouldn't have been bad if the weather was normal, but the humidity was 100%. So, it was hard to cool down. Other than that, it was an wonderful place to spend the week. There were many wonderful beaches nearby to go to. Restaurants and shops were very close. We sat outside most of the week watching dolphins, turtles, and fish swimming right in front of us. I would stay there again. We had a wonderful vacation. Great customer service!!!

Great waterfront home for family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our small group consisting of some family and friends planned a ten day vacation(7/10/2015-7/20/2015) on the Big Island(our favorite of all the islands) and we were looking for a waterfront property that was nice and also affordable. We spent a significant amount of time outside to watch the beautiful sunsets. The tide pools are frequented by sea turtles and there were several days where we could see the dolphins jumping and spinning several hundred yards offshore. We are/were very happy with our choice. We would definitely stay at this home again if/when we return to the island.

Pros

- Very, very competitively priced

- Large home with lots of sleeping accommodations

- Good sized kitchen with nice assortment of dishes, cookware, etc

- Nice Ohana(small attached apartment) that worked well for our friends with a baby

- Beautiful and spacious covered balcony and patio for entertaining and relaxing(even has a nice new bbq)

- Waterfront(we even went snorkeling from the beach, not for the novice though and might I say the coral, fish, etc were amazing)

- Well stocked with water toys(snorkeling gear, water socks, squirt guns, etc)

- Close proximity to public beaches

- Very responsive owner(Kathy) and property manager(Suzie) if problems arise

Cons

- It was more humid than normal during our stay and it was a little uncomfortable at night when we were trying to sleep. The home advertises only one AC and it's in the master bedroom. The unit wasn't working well and the owner and manager not only replaced the unit promptly but they also brought several floor fans as well(much appreciated). The only reason I mention this as a con is so people know what to potentially expect in summer months. It is clearly stated in the property description but I don't want someone leaving a negative review due to circumstances that are beyond the owners control. Non summer months are probably a non-issue. BTW - the master bedroom was perfect once the new ac went in. If you are sensitive to humidity and heat, keep all this in mind before you book a summer stay.

Thanks Kathy and Suzie
