The Altamont is a newly renovated 1895 building on the most beautiful tree-lined street in downtown Asheville. Church Street is central to everything in downtown from Pack Square to Pritchard Park, and from the Civic Center to the Orange Peel. Park your car for your entire stay and walk to the most interesting and eclectic restaurants, shopping and nightlife!
As part of the 2010 historic and green renovation, the vacation condos were created to provide nice, comfortable and reasonably priced quarters to spend time in Downtown Asheville. Enjoy the charm of an old building while taking advantage of modern green technology. Water is heated with solar panels on the roof, all permanent light fixtures are CFL, most materials were manufactured within 500 miles of Asheville, and paint and stains are all Low VOC resulting in very high indoor air quality. Almost all the beautiful hardwood floors are original.
The renovation also created The Altamont Theater, Asheville’s Best Listening Room for live music offering the best acoustics in the region. Spend your vacation time with us and see nationally touring artists like Jay Ungar and Molly Mason, Balsam Range, California Guitar Trio, John Vezner, Mary Gauthier, Geoff Achison and many more. The theatre also presents stand-up comedy, storytelling, poetry and theater.
Performances start at 8:00 and are usually over by 11:00 – so no late night parties going on below you.
Feel free to bring the entire family, we are child friendly.
My wonderful family enjoying our day together.
Some of the LEED certification requirements met in this historic renovation are:
- All hot water is solar.
- Steel framing, sheet rock, and other materials are recycled.
- Materials from the building that were removed were recycled and diverted from
- Many new materials are non-emitting.
Please visit the US Green Building Council web site for more information on LEED.
We stayed at the Altamont for a long weekend. It is close to tons of great restaurants, in the middle of everything, but was not too noisy. Easy to get in and out of town from this location. We were in a comfortably furnished 3rd floor, 1-BR condo, and we enjoyed sitting on the balcony (in afternoon shade) with a glass of wine at the end of the day. One night we could hear the show at the theater but they ended early enough that it wasn't a problem. Parking on the weekend and overnight was inexpensive and easily accessible, but I can see if you stayed through the week it could be more problematic. We will probably stay here again on our next visit to Asheville!
The rooms were great except the bedrooms. In one room the door could not be shut due to the bed size so the light from the door was eye opening. In the queen sized bedroom next door the headboard is not attached so every time I rolled over or even slightly moved it would hit the wall - which is not pleasant through the night. Also in this room I could not turn on the ceiling fan as it would make a constant rattle and again not pleasant through the night. More curtains could be put on the door and windows or at least a curtain on the door - preferably both darker in color to hide light first thing in the morning. If I want light I can open the curtain all together.
