The house was exceptional and weather was just perfect! The only drawback was the view of homes that were devastated in the storm last year. We could of course ignore that but it was not nearly as beautiful as the previous photos displayed. I feel so bad for the people who lost their homes. On many mornings there were construction workers leveling the land beside us. Sounds like I am complaining but just being truthful. The island is beautiful and very low-key. This is exactly what we wanted. Again, the house was amazing for the price.
Beautiful House/Can't Control What is Happening Outside
Sadly, this little island has a beach erosion problem, magnified with damage from Hurricane Matthew. This beautiful house sits surrounded by many eerie, vacant homes that are waiting to be torn down. The house to our left was torn down the week we were there. The lot right next door to us was used for bulldozers and construction vehicles to hull away the debris and concrete. Trucks parked in front of the home all week, monopolizing that view. Jackhammers were used daily beginning by 7:30 a.m. until 5:15. We never could open the windows and enjoy the breeze. We never could have a meal on the balcony. With the noise and construction workers, we could not use the beach nearest to the home, which is why we rented the property. Thank you to Karl who refunded us half the rental fees. I just hope this doesn't happen to anyone other family. The rest of the island seems pretty peaceful, just this location is very sad.
Beautiful and stress relieving !!!
Stayed 7 nights recently and this place is amazing! Really enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the dolphins and shrimp boats every day. House has everything you need, especially in the way of cooking. Nicely decorated and very comfortable. Was so hard to leave this place! Thank you for helping to make such a great vacation!
Can't Wait To Come Back!
Everything was as described and more. The master bathroom shower was a nice surprise! It is a beautiful home with a wonderful location. Very close to beach boardwalk access. I'm giving it 4 out of 5 stars only because it would have been over the top perfect if they had a golf cart that went along with the property. Even without the golf cart, this property doesn't disappoint!!
Fantastic home, organized, friendly, great spot! Five Star
A beautiful home on Harbor Island. Close to the beach, with views of both the marsh and the ocean. Clean, everything works, WiFi, well appointed and decorated, and comfortable. Very good communications with very friendly owners. We truly enjoyed our stay for the week. Relaxing and very easy. Tremendous home. Highly recommended home in a great location. Also, fished with a great guide that we'd also highly recommend - Rick Percy. The area has wonderful fishing during much of the year. It's only going to improve from this time through November. (our trip was the first week of April - redfish had not started up after the water started warming, but offshore we wore ourselves out catching numerous species. Good eating!
Gorgeous home, beautiful view...
My family was very pleased with the rental home and the location. There was so many fun things to do. Activities included walks on the sound which can be seen from the house and is a short walk over the pier, bike rides, swimming in the community pool, exercising in the community fitness room, visit to hunting island five mins away, which is where the ocean is accessed, catching blue crab from the crabbing dock, and much more. The house was clean, beautifully decorated, linens fresh, modern appliances, washer and dryer, beach chairs provided, etc... The home is listed as pet friendly. My family paid the fee, but at the last minute decided not to bring our pet since we had never taken her on vacation before and she is not the most well trained dog. I think the home is great for a trained dog. There is no yard and the garage area is open. Therefore, the pet would have to be left in the house or tied in the garage area if renters wanted to go off without the pet. Loved this rental home and harbor island. I would return again.
Wrapped by the Harbor River, Saint Helena Sound, the Atlantic Ocean, and Johnson’s Creek, Harbor Island vistas are always changing. Stroll Harbor’s 2.5 miles of natural beach with a gentle slope, watching the dolphins playing offshore. Designated an Audubon Important Bird Area, Harbor Island is home to acres and acres of unspoiled marsh threaded by tidal creeks and host to a myriad of bird life including nesting egrets in the lagoon areas, where you can sometimes glimpse a gator. Fishing is allowed from the beach, and the Island has a small crabbing dock. A five minute ride will take you to neighboring Hunting Island State Park, with maritime forest, beach, fishing lagoon, lighthouse and fishing pier. Right across the Harbor River Bridge, Gay Seafood brings in fresh fish and shrimp. If you’d rather have the cooking done for you, The Shrimp Shack is just across the street from Gay’s. A long local tradition, it serves up mainly fried fresh seafood and simple fare available for takeout or to eat there on the picnic tables. Less than a quarter mile in the other direction is another long established casual restaurant, Johnson’s Creek Tavern, known locally as JCT. A combination bar and restaurant, you will find people of every age there enjoying meals or drinks indoors or on the outside decks, or listening to the live music occasionally offered. Many other restaurant options ranging from fast food to fine dining are available on nearby Saint Helena Island, Lady’s Island, and in Beaufort. Beaufort itself is 14 miles from Harbor Island (you will pass right through on your way to the Island). A charming historic town, you can easily spend a day or two just exploring the downtown historic district and the Bay Street area shopping district, strolling the waterfront park that stretches along the Intracoastal Waterway, browsing art galleries and antique shops, perhaps indulging yourself with a horse and carriage ride or a dolphin watching cruise on the Beaufort River. The area’s best golf is just minutes away & Savannah, Hilton Head and Charleston are easy day trips! Whether your pleasure is simply relaxing on the Harbor Island beach or by the pool, taking a kayak tour of the areas pristine waterways, or relishing fine waterfront dining, Harbor Island and the Beaufort area has all the ingredients for a memorable vacation.
