I grew up in Elberta and inherited this lovely little house from my father. I have had it totally remodeled into the perfect hideaway to get away from it all in beautiful northwestern Michigan. If I could, I would spend the whole summer there myself! I hope that the people who stay in my Elberta Village Hideaway will love it and the Benzie County area with its lakes and rivers and gorgeous scenery as much as I do.
Patrina Nickson purchased this house in 2009
Elberta is a quiet peaceful village that is just a hop and a skip away from lots of fun places.
The Elberta Village Hideaway is in the perfect location - it's minutes from the sandy Lake Michigan beaches and within walking distance of the Betsie River. Elberta Lifesaving Station (wedding venue) is 1.1 miles down the road. The Betsie Valley Trail (biking) is accessible approximately 2 blocks from the house and runs to Thompsonville. A quick 20 minute drive takes you to Crystal Mountain for golf or skiing. There are casinos and shopping in Manistee and Traverse City, 30 and 45 minutes away. Frankfort is 1 mile away on the north side of Betsie Bay and has unique shops. There are 135 miles of groomed snowmobile trails in Benzie county. There is also an nice private back yard to relax in.
My family (2 adults, 3 kids, and our dog) came up for a long weekend. The house was absolutely perfect and adorable. So clean, smelled nice, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. My big kids loved helping build fires. My toddler enjoyed the princess doll and elephant with accessories. My husband and I enjoyed the Betsie River bike trail. We took day trips up to Sleeping Bear and Leland one day. The next we visited Traverse City and Torch Lake. So much to do, so close. I wish we could have found the Elberta dune. Hope to be back.
The cottage was just what we needed for our 1st year anniversary get away. It was cute, clean, and it had everything that we needed. I also loved how close it was to the beach, we were within minutes of the overlook of Lake Michigan. We will definitely stay here again when we come back to the Elberta/Frankfort area. I also love that dogs are allowed here. We decided to leave our lab home this time, but would love to bring him next time because he helps add to making great memories.
Well-maintained, well-furnished, clean home. We didn't realize how much we would appreciate having a living space + full kitchen + laundry + coffee, etc as a young family... far superior to a one-story motel, that was running the same price. Used as our launchpad to Sleeping Bear Dunes, but also convenient to Frankfort strip/beach when we were feeling too tired to travel. Host was very gracious when I realized upon arrival that I had booked the wrong date by 1 day. Would book again.
*There was a ceramic bowl, but for a full dish set we could only find plastic items, which were not microwave safe
*Wood dining table + bench seats a little slippery on smooth wood floor - a little to keep kids on them
*Adding recycling + LED lighting would make a nice "green" touch
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our week at this Frankfort/Elberta cottage. Lake Michigan beaches of both towns were gorgeous. Found several Petoskey stones. Shops and food at Frankfort are excellent. Travelled to Traverse City, Leland, Northport, and Beulah with convenience. Bike trails and Betsie River are relaxing.
Our family of 5 had a great time at this cottage. It was tidy and decorated very nicely. The cottage was well organized and stocked with everything we needed. There was a great selection of books and games. The owner even thought to provide grilling necessities, beach towels, and a cooler and ice pack. If we had stayed longer we definitely would have taken advantage of the fire pit in the back yard. The street was really quiet but we were in walking distance to several restaurants. The beach on Lake Michigan was just a quick drive. There was a lovely walking and biking trail by Lake Betsie just across the main road. We chose this cottage because it was one of the few in the area that offered summer nightly rentals but we would love to come back for a longer stay and explore Elberta further!
We found this charming Elberta cottage to be the perfect spot to spend our week of vacation. The cottage was equipped with everything you need, it was extremely clean and well furnished and had both a front porch and spacious backyard to relax in. Just a short bike ride to the lovely Elberta beach or across the bay to Frankfort. We had five adults staying there and all slept comfortably. We will definitely plan to stay here again on our next visit
