This is a place you will never forget. We understand there are many wonderful places to stay in the Blue Ridge, but Red Feather offers something special, intangible....We don't have to offer you much to give you everything!! The house isn't fancy but quaint and cozy with lots of nuances that add to the experience of being in the mountains. In the fall and winter months you can snuggle next to the large fireplaces, wake to ever changing vistas and wonderful views right outside your front door. Enjoy a wonderful night's sleep in a comfortable bed made with soft blankets and down comforters. In the spring and summer you'll enjoy your morning coffee in the company of an assortment of wild life such as hummingbirds, and chipmunks, cotton tail bunnies, deer, wild turkey, ground hogs and the like. Every morning will most likely be enhanced with a fabulous sunrise.

This Swiss chalet is situated on 11 acres of private land and has over 5 acres of pasture. Kids will find plenty of opportunity for fun and exploration. Three bedrooms plus loft, the master bedroom has a private balcony with soft cotton hammock for afternoon reading and master fireplace for the hopelessly romantic. All bedrooms have a full bath; the two downstairs bedrooms each have sliding doors opening to their own deck and also a beautiful view. Each downstairs bedroom has a queen bed and bunk beds and loft has twin and private bath. This house can comfortably sleep 7 adults and 4 children.

Just 10 minutes to the base of Beech Mountain and 15 minutes to the base of Sugar Mountain. Our completely furnished mountain retreat will take your worries away.

Hi Def TV in the living room, outdoor BBQ (gas tank provided), board games, several DVDs and a docking platform for your iPod. This is a great place to be in Summer to get away from heat, Spring when everything is fresh and new, Fall with fabulous Autumn colors and Winter sports and recreation. The area offers unlimited hiking trails of all levels, river rafting, canoeing, fishing and outdoor winter sport activities such as skiing and snowboarding at several conveniently located resorts such as, Beach Mountain, Sugar Mountain, and Seven Devils.

About Owner/Property Manager

Growing up on opposite sides of the united states Georgee in Seattle Washington and Charlie in Miami Florida, the two met over 30 years ago and it was love at first sight. They have enjoyed 25 years happily married and enjoy many activities together such as fishing, hunting and adventures of the outdoors.

Owner/Property Manager purchased this house in 2005

Why Owner/Property Manager chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

We discovered the for sale sign at the bottom of the driveway and when we walked on to the deck and looked at the Autumn view it was love at first sight, We didn't even need to see the house. We have put a lot of elbow grease and effort into making the house what it is today. The architecture is truly unique and the floor plan is excellent for multiple families. The rolling pasture and fabulous trees offer ultimate privacy and a great home for animals.

We have seen many homes in North Carolina since we have purchased Red Feather but non have had the ambiance and magic we find here.

What makes this house unique

This home doesn't feel like a rental, it feels like our home. We love to spend time here and we have filled this house with love. It shows.

Guestbook comments from the owner

As evening turns to night, we're all felling a bit meloncholy about leaving. Eah of us tryly wishes we could stay forevery - but reality calls. The mountains in the distance turned a deep blue this evening. The name "Blue Ridge" makes all the sense in the world. Surely this is one of nature's greatest achievements. After months of excited anticipation and planning we are Red Feather is all we imangined....all our expectations...this place is so much MORE! Georgee' and Charlie - we can't thank you enough. These days have truly been a gift. OUr memories of this time spent together in this wonderful place will last all of our lives. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

We feed the deers every night, we were kind of sad the 3 day beacuse thought that it wouldnt snow but suddenly started to snow and we even build a little snow man and we even use the snow sleigh it was really fun the candy store around the area was amazing I really recommend this place.

Everything We Expected and So Much More!

  • 5 of 5

As soon as we got to Red Feather, we immediately felt as if we were home – even thought we had never been there before! The house itself is open and bright with lots of windows and gorgeous views. From the second floor deck you can see forever mountain views of the Blue Ridge - and finally fully understand why it is called the "blue" ridge - the range literally lays down in a hundred shades of blue.

There were four adults in our party and the house had plenty of room for us, plus room to spare – and I can’t tell you how happy everyone was to have their own private bathroom and shower! Having the full kitchen was nice – although we didn’t cook much – hey we were on vacation! There are some great restaurants in the nearby town of Banner Elk – and we were able to catch a really great arts/crafts show too. There are also tons of hiking trails right there. We drove over to Grandfather Mountain and explored, crossed the mile-high swinging bridge and everything. We also stocked up on sweets at the Mast General Store in Valle Crucis.

At night we turned out all the house lights and sat on the deck staring up into the star-filled sky. In the morning we reconvened on the deck for hot coffee, hummingbird watching and marveling at how quiet it was. We spent most of our last day at Red Feather discussing all that we would do when we came back next year and wondered how much it would be if we wanted to buy the place! It was that good – definitely the kind of place you want to return to again and again.

The Red Feather was every...

  • 5 of 5

The Red Feather was everything we imagined and more. We stayed for 5 days and had a blast! You will not be disappointed by choosing this home. We had 2 families that slept very comfortably, we cooked meals each night, played guitar by the fireplace, the kids played card games, and we were 10 minutes from the base of Sugar and Beech Mountains. We had the conveniences of a full kitchen, washer/dryer, privacy, great trails and slopes to ride down on sleds; we saw deer and lots of wildlife at the actual home, not to mention the view of the mountains. I could not imagine staying anywhere else. When arriving, I would recommend coming through Banner Elk it is an easy drive up the mountain. We created so many memories that will last forever! We are already talking about our next trip to the Red Feather....we hope you enjoy!
