Thank you for choosing 'Cozy Cub'. If you're looking for the perfect rental accomodation, not into camping and not wanting to spend a lot of money, you have found the perfect place for relaxation and fun. This cabin is only six years old, impeccably maintained, loaded with amenities such as a fully equipped kitchen, a Direct Satelite TV with DVD player, and a gorgeous view of the forest right outside your window. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other bedroom has two bunk beds (for up to 4 persons). This unit is located in the downstairs floor of the cabin. It is accessed by and outside stair case on the side of the cabin.
Yosemite West is the perfect location for your mountain getaway. We are centrally located inside the gates of Yosemite National Park. Just 30 minutes south of the valley floor one milesfrom Glacier Point Road and just 5 miles from Badger Pass ski area and 30 minuites (15 miles) from Glacier Point. You are likely to see wild animals such as coyotes, deer and maybe even an occassional bear looking for a free meal (please do not feed them).
You can hike the nearby nature trails or ski at Badger Pass; the cross-country skiing along Glacier Point Road and the trails to the cliffs are spectacular in the extreme! They are all a short 20 minute ride from the front door, even in winter.
No matter who you spend your vacation, you'll come away with lifelong memories to share with your family and friends.
My wife, Pat, and I have spent the last ten years building our dream home in Yosemite. We are anxious to share our beautiful home with travelers visiting the 'one of a kind' Yosemite National Park.
Our vacation condo is kept impeccably clean, new furnishings, condo is only six years old. Fully equipped kitchen, towels and bedding are provided. Just bring your clothes and some food!
Convenient location; close proximity to all the sight seeing spots in Yosemite Valley, Glacier Point, Badger Pass, Wawona, Mariposa Grove, and the awe-inspiring high country of Yosemite.
Quiet surroundings, possible wildlife visits, beautiful forest area.
We found Cozy Cub to be above expectations because:
1) the unit was large, clean, and was probably recently remodeled
2) kitchen had just enough of everything we needed. (we cooked dinner and breakfast there every day)
3) The queen bedroom had that "new feeling"
4) The bathroom was quite nice
So I'd recommend staying here.
Note for folks staying longer: no washer/dryer.
BTW, the weather was mild when during our stay, and thus overheating was not an issue.
The Cozy Cub should not be rented in summer. It may be an ideal winter location, but in the heat of July and August it is a sweatbox. It was always hotter inside the unit than outside – and the temperature in Yosemite reached 107 degrees during our stay! The unit included three fans which did little to alleviate the heat because the unit’s window screens are bent, damaged or broken – opening the windows to cool off meant that we shared the unit with all manner of flying and crawling insects. Previous reviews show the damaged screens have been brought to the owners’ attention before, but nothing has been done. We think the Cozy Cub owners should make it very clear on their listing that the unit is NOT air conditioned – instead they list “heating” as an amenity.
In addition, the owners failed to respond to our questions and concerns. We left messages at both contact phone numbers posted in the unit every day of our stay and never, ever received a response. This is the first time a VRBO owner has failed to respond to us.
Our family of 5 stayed 2 nights at the Cozy Cub, and had an enjoyable stay overall. The weather at Yosemite was up to 100 F every day we were there, so the lack of air conditioning in the unit was detrimental and it could use a small cooling unit besides fans at least for the bedrooms. Also, as stated by other reviews, there is no wireless and any data comm is spotty at best in the community, ours with otherwise reliable Verizon (funny 4G was available in the Valley). Yes, this is a nature adventure but for those of us that plan digitally and like to read up on outings for the next day, doing so was pretty much nonexistent without wireless. Would be a nice benefit for the place. Other than that, beds were good, screens appeared to be fixed from a prior review, and had a nice video library for the kids. We had a wonderful stay and the owners were nice to work with.
The three of us were delighted with our entire stay in Yosemite and especially with the Cozy Cub cabin.
It was comfortable, fully functional, in a beautiful setting, and our phone interactions with Mike Bradley were pleasant and helpful.
it would easily accomodate seven or more people and the road into Valley Center is a gorgeous drive.
We were very "at home" in the Cozy Cub.
Advanced communication was extensive and timely. Directions were spot on. Owner has seemingly converted their downstairs into a rental unit. Fairly spartan which is fine in a woodsy setting. Parking was easy and plenty and the roads were well marked. If you have AT&T, there is no cell signal at all. Beds were poor, they were "working on" getting internet. No laundry or many/any other extras.
We were slated to stay two nights. We were quite excited. When we got to the unit, it was sealed up tight and over 80 degrees inside! We got in and found the screens on three of the four primary windows were completely beat up and could not function as screens! The unit had no air conditioning (stated upfront) but at night, historically the temps cooled off to a level we saw this as no problem. With the screens non-functioning, we did not wish to invite the zika virus inside with the many mosquitos around so we tried leaving the windows closed and just opening the one intact screen door in the master bedroom. While this somewhat cooled off that room, without any cross ventilation, it was still far too hot for our kids to sleep comfortably at 10pm. WE decided to go ahead and open the kids room window and the living room windows and it cooled off immediately...but by the wee hours of the morning the place was riddled with mosquitoes and nobody could sleep. My oldest got eaten up. Other had some bites. I closed the windows back up and killed as many as we could see. Largely a horrid night sleep was had by all.
In the morning, we drove to civilization and texted the owners, told them either we needed the screens fixed or we needed to leave a day early - we simply should not be expected to have another night like that in a room at this caliber of stay. There response was basically to say "nobody else had ever complained". I frankly didn't care what anybody else had said, I took pics of the broken screens and again asked if they could be fixed before we returned to the unit that night. They said they wouldn't be looked at for several days. Our family decided rather than risk flying attack and another horrid night we would go back and check out and find another place. Put quite a damper on an otherwise beautiful experience.
We had a nice stay at Cozy Cub, very close to the road that leads to Glacier Point.
The good: awsome sunset view from the living area; great grill, nice personal touchs with hiking tips, etc.
Not so good: dead batteries on remotes,; I personally did not care for some of the sheets quality; be aware you are staying on the unit down the stairs (2 sets of stairs to get there).
Our 'Cozy Cub' is located in Yosemite National Park in Yosemite West. It is only a twenty minute drive from El Capitan and Yosemite Village, and all the attractions of Yosemite National Park. This is also the closest lodging for Badger Pass Ski Area, with downhill and Nordic skiing--only about six miles away from your door.
This Yosemite West home is located just a few miles from the Glacier Point Road, so you are very close to Taft Point and Glacier Point, the most spectacular views of Yosemite Valley.
