IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON BRINGING YOUR OWN BOAT, you need to contact us (send an inquiry through this site) prior to making an ON LINE booking so we can determine if we have a suitable boat-lift for your boat. We rent boat-lifts (to make sure your boat is safe) for $65/week or $25 for the first day and $10 for the following day(s) - whichever is less. Please note - the fee for a boat-lift is not included in the cost of renting the cottage.

In summer time the cottage is rented for FULL weeks only: Saturday to Saturday. Off-season we rent for two nights minimum.

There is WiFi access available in our office for checking e-mail.

You will be very happy with our spacious, modern, super clean, housekeeping 2 bedroom cottage which can accommodate up to 6 guests (UPON PRIOR ARRANGEMENT) on 1 double bed, 2 twin beds and a queen size pull-out sofa. Quotes you receive through this site are based on a standard rate for up to 4 guests in the cottage. There is an extra fee required for the 5th and 6th person in the cottage: $60 per week per person, or $25 per night - whichever is less. The cottage is completely furnished including bed linens. Please, remember to bring your own bathroom towels and kitchen dishtowels+dishwashing liquid. A big, modern kitchen has a full size refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, and all necessary pots, pans, plates and utensils. There is also a DVD player and a TV set in the cottage (there is no TV reception at our location). You can bring your PET for a vacation here: a weekly rate is $75 per pet; a daily rate is $35 for the first night and $10 for the following night(s). There will be a $100 fee charged for cleaning IF dog hairs are found on bed spreads, blankets, any bed sheets, or furniture. Pet owners will be required to give a credit card number upon registration.

The cottage is located on beautiful Lac Vieux Desert Lake in the heart of Wisconsin's Northwoods lake country and the Nicolet National Forest. We are just a few miles north of Eagle River, WI. We are open all year round and offer you a knotty-pine interior cottage that will suit all your lodging and accommodation needs, all surrounded by beautiful and fragrant old pine trees and majestic oaks. There is an abundance of wildlife here, on the lake and in the area. Make sure you bring a pair of binoculars with you - there are a lot of eagle nests all around the lake and you can see and hear eagles and loons every day. You will also see ducks, swans, and otters here. Deer very often visit the area.

We are located on the south shore of Lac Vieux Desert, the headwaters of the Wisconsin River.

Our beautiful lake is famous of its record musky (a World Record Musky was caught here), walleye, northern pike, perch, small mouth and large mouth bass and panfish fishing, and is one of the largest in the state with 4300 acres and 19 miles of fantastic shoreline and 4 islands.

The 610 sq.ft. cottage (located 70 yards from the lake's shore) has 250' lake frontage to be used by our guests. There are two piers on the property to be used by our guests.

For your enjoyment, outside the cottage you will find charcoal grill, fire pit (for weekly rentals we provide an armful of firewood for free), and picnic table. For weekly rentals a 14-foot aluminum, fishing boat with oars is also included to fish the lake or just to relax on the water. We also rent a boat with a motor for $199/week + gas used, or $60/day + gas used. After a successful fishing day you can use our fish-cleaning house to clean your fish and then freeze the fish (if you want) in a big freezer there.

Come stay with us any time of the year and enjoy many wonderful vacation activities in spring and summer such as swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing, hiking, berry picking, golfing, horse back riding, bicycling, ATV riding, scenic driving and wildlife watching. There is plenty to do in fall and winter, too. You can enjoy watching the northern forests burst into brilliant fall colors as well as hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling or cross country skiing. The cottage is located on the snowmobile trail and you have access to 600 miles of Vilas County snowmobiling trails in the Nicolet National Forest.

About Katherine Rozwenc

We bought the property in 2007 because we were coming for vacation to Lac Vieux Desert Lake for the last 20 years and we're in love with the Northwoods. We appreciate the beauty of this area and we want our guests to enjoy themselves so we do our best to make their stay comfortable and memorable.

Why Katherine Rozwenc chose Phelps

Lac Vieux Desert lake (4300 acres) is the best all year round fishing lake in Northern Wisconsin. It is located in the heart of 650,000 acres of Nicolet National Forest and very close (the north shore of the lake) to 2.2 million acres of Ottawa National Forest. This lake offers a lot of fishing excitement (musky, walleye, northern, crappie, bluegill, perch, bass) as well as wonderful relaxation like no other place in the Northwoods.

The cottage has a very private, big deck with a picnic table and chairs. Guests can enjoy a great view of the lake from the deck. There is a fire pit by the cottage and an outside charcoal grill. Guests can use a private storage that is located next to piers for their fishing gear. Right at the lake’s shore for our guests’ convenience, there is a special, big tank with fresh, oxygenated water for holding live bait.

Cozy and clean cottage close to the lake shore.

  • 5 of 5

We spend a week at this quiet, cozy, extremely clean and comfortable little cottage in the woods, situated only 50 metres from the lake shore, with a pleasantly shady veranda, a fireplace and a grill two steps down. The friendly Landlord was astonished we actually contented ourselves with a rowing boat (for free) without engine ($ 60/day), which turned out to be a bit heavy indeed but still made for extensive tours around the lake (incl. fishing).

Owner's Response: It was a real pleasure to have Joachim and Leonie with their kids as our guests. We are always very happy when our guests have a good time in our cottage and enjoy beautiful woods and Lac Vieux Desert Lake in Phelps, Northern Wisconsin. Just to clarify - this cottage does not have a fireplace - it has a firepit outside the cottage.

Great Hosts! Stayed up to welcome us with very late arrival.

  • 4 of 5

Great cottage to share time with family. Because we were up north to find a place for our new college graduate to live, we did not spend much time other than evening meal and sleeping in cottage. Would be a great place to relax with beauty of nature. Hosts were friendly and would stay again.

It brings us a lot of joy when we hear that our guests liked our cottage and would like to return. We are looking forward to welcoming them here for a real, long vacation. We always work very hard to make sure our guests enjoy their vacation stay at our place.

Owner's Response: The four guests who booked our cottage for Apr. 21-23, 2017 made their reservation on line and despite our numerous e-mails asking them to call us – they never did. By signing the reservation agreement with HomeAway they agreed to the clearly spelled rule – there will be no refund for their payment. This cottage is open all year-round and we have many guests who come here to enjoy the beauty of the Northwoods, not necessarily to fish. Fishing season (for all kinds of fish) in northern Wisconsin starts the first weekend of May (this year it is on May 6) – we do not decide about it! Those guests coming from the Chicago area did not realize that we have quite different weather in April up here, but, unfortunately did not call us to ask any questions. The ice just melted on the lake and we were able to put the piers in the water that very weekend those guests wanted to be here. By the way – today (4/27) we got 5 inches of new snow on the ground. The person who wrote this review (Tom Maciorowski) harassed us a few days ago by writing to us about 20 e-mails in which he threatened our lives and our property. We had to report those dangerous threats to the local police, who contacted him and told him to stop this illegal behavior. We work very hard to make sure that our guests have a good vacation time at our place, but we can't read anybody's mind – that's why we ask our potential guests to call us and ask questions, even if they choose to make a reservation on line. {We provide a bundle of firewood for free for guests who rent the cottage for 1 full week; for daily renters we can sell firewood, or they can buy the firewood somewhere else. Everything in the cottage works properly and it was about 75 degrees F inside the cottage when the guests entered it on 4/21.}
