Central Eleuthera Estate Rental Photos and Description

6 bedrooms, 7 baths, Sleeps 16

Under new ownership (April 2014) and extensively remodeled and expanded in May-July 2014, Kataluma features many improvements and updates including an additional bedroom suite and a new beachfront infinity pool. Set on a powdery pink-sand beach overlooking the turquoise waters of the Atlantic, Kataluma is a grand 6-bedroom, 6½-bath beachfront estate on Double Bay. This new and secluded 5000 sf home has two levels of living space. The upper floor features a vast open-plan great room with 20 feet of sliding glass doors for stunning beach and ocean views. At night, this room becomes a home theater with surround-sound, CD/DVD player, and 10’ movie screen with film library. The lower floor of Kataluma features a second family room, a recreation room with 8-foot slate pool table and flat-screen satellite TV.

Outside, luxuriate in our new oceanfront heated infinity pool, or in our backyard pool on the west side of the house. Lounge in our shady beachside tiki hut. Explore our offshore islands and reefs with our kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and snorkel gear, or explore the land on our beach bikes. Kataluma has excellent snorkeling on the beautiful coral reefs right off the beach in front of the house. Grill and enjoy your day's catch on a variety of oceanfront and poolside patios and decks.

The upper level of Kataluma has four bedroom suites (2 king and 2 queen beds). Each has its own name and design theme (Hibiscus, Gecko, Lotus, Frangipani) hand-carved on the wooden transom over the door. The doors are recessed into hallways to give private entry off the main living areas. Each bedroom has its own private bath, each with a unique design and style.

The lower level of Kataluma features a new downstairs master suite with a king bed and private bathroom. The second downstairs bedroom is a bunk room that sleeps up to 8 and has a dedicated bathroom. It is furnished with a full-on-full bunk bed and two standard-width bunk bed sets.

The lower level of Kataluma also features a second living room with a 42” flat screen TV with satellite service, and a game room with professional slate pool table with pub table, pub stools and spectator chairs for pool playing enthusiasts.

Kataluma’s gourmet kitchen will satisfy the most demanding chef. A 15-foot center island gives plenty of space for preparing your in-home meals. Or have our cook do it for you!

The stainless steel Bosch appliances include a glass cook top with downward draft ventilation, wall oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher to facilitate the needs of guests, chefs and staff.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the accoutrements needed to prepare your culinary delights including Wusthof knives, Boos board, blender, toaster, coffee grinder, coffee-maker, rice maker, crock pot, and a selection of spices and seasonings. Just outside the kitchen area is a large built-in Jenn-Aire gas cooking grill for your barbecue and grilling selections.

If you wish to dine outside, there is a convenient deck situated just outside the kitchen’s sliding glass doors, so that you can enjoy views of the west swimming pool, garden area, the sprawling coconut forest and spectacular sunsets. Adjacent to the ocean side pool, there is seating for 12 at our outdoor mahogany dining table.

Housekeeping is provided two times a week at Kataluma, Monday and Thursday. If you would like more frequent housekeeping, it can be arranged. A cook can be arranged upon request.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Kataluma is an absolutely gorgeous home with amazing views of the crystal blue waters of the Atlantic and it's pink sand beaches. Our family was looking for a private & relaxing vacation, and this home exceeded our expectations. We were hard pressed to leave our own little piece of paradise to explore the island, as we stayed at home most of the time. We did drive down to Rock Sound, which has better grocery selections, and even better prices, including alcohol. A rental car is a must. We drove over to the Caribbean side of the island a few times, and were not disappointed. The views & the water were breathtaking. We dined at Tippy's restaurant once, and would not return. We felt it was more of a tourist trap, the food was mediocre, and prices were high. Mate & Jenny's is just down the road, the atmosphere was more welcoming, and the pizza was delicious. We hired a chef, Manasseh, to cook for us at the house. His prices & food were above the rest, better than any restaurant we found. His conch fritters are to die for! Hiring him was the best decision we made about our meals. The island is quiet & quaint, and the islanders are very friendly. We would love to visit Eleuthera again, and we certainly would love to rent Kataluma again! Don't think we could've had a better week of relaxation, weather, and most importantly, spending time with each other making memories. Special thanks to the owners for sharing their beautiful home with us & to Matt for helping us decide on a home that was perfect for our families.

60th Anniversary Trip to Eleuthera

  • 5 of 5

We would all like to thank you for allowing us the pleasure of staying at the incomparable villa called Kataluma.

This is an excellent property for large groups.

With six bedrooms and 6 1/2 baths it was perfect for the twelve of us.

The Atlantic was close and the pools were right there and well maintained.

The beach is gorgeous. No one is on it but you and your party.

We had a wonderful day at lighthouse beach even though Steve didn't appreciate us taking the suburbans on the rough road getting there.

Pauline and Maxine fixed us a delicious Bahamian dinner one night and came back another time and prepared breakfast.

We spent another wonderful day on Savanna Sound with Fishbone Tours. Julius (Capt. Bubba) and Ken were very knowledgeable of the sea life and surrounding area. We were shown many celebrity's homes on a boat ride around Windermere Island. They even fixed conch salad and burgers for us on the beach.

Our adventuresome grandsons took kayaks out and landed on the two outer islands.

One afternoon a dolphin swam within 15 feet of us while we were cooling off in the Atlantic.

The celebration of Sharon's and Larry's 60th anniversary was with dinner on the deck at the 1648 Bar and Grill. We got a huge tureen of rum punch before dinner. The punch wasn't very good but it disappeared.

We picked up some Stubbs BBQ for our last night's dinner.

Everyone wants to stay another week.

Thank you all for a wonderful experience.

We have all felt the love of Eleuthera.

Now the other stuff that would have been nice to have: Umbrellas for the lounges on the deck, half a dozen or so beach chairs would have been great to take to the beach, the infinity pool never did work, and the younger of the group were disappointed that the exterior speakers didn't work.

This should not detract from the fact that we could not have found a nicer, decently maintained property for our large group. It had everything we needed to enjoy our stay.

Larry and Sharon

Owner's Response: Thanks for the wonderful review. We apologize for the problem with the infinity pool pump. It has been replaced and the infinity edge is working again.

The BEST vacation we have ever taken!

  • 5 of 5

We planned a family vacation with 4 adult couples, 8 children (ages 10-19) and a great-grandmother. Kataluma could not have been more perfect for our family! The home was spacious, with room and privacy for everyone. While we visited a few of the restaurants on the island, most of our meals were enjoyed, as a family, in the open kitchen. Everyone enjoyed use of the kayaks and snorkel gear to explore the islands and reefs just outside. We spent most days enjoying the beautiful pools, snorkeling and even scuba-diving on the reefs just outside.

The people of Eleuthera are incredibly gracious and friendly. We felt completely safe everywhere we went on the island. The beaches on Eleuthera are AMAZING! Make sure you take a trip to Lighthouse beach, it is worth the drive to the south tip of the island. This is, by far, the most beautiful beach we have ever seen!

We had the most amazing week and can't wait to come back!

Kataluma's newest fans!

  • 5 of 5

There are not enough nice things to say about this property. I worked with its property manager, Matt Simon, to set up the booking. We were looking to rent a home for our family and ourselves the week before we got married on Eleuthera. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful when seeking out a home. Kataluma was incredible! It is beautifully done, has a wide open floor plan, and each of the bedrooms has a full bath. All the finishing and fixtures are top notch. The attention to detail and design is remarkable. The location was awesome for us, since we hadn't been to the island before, we could go north to explore, or south to explore, without it being too long of a drive in either direction. The pink sand beach it's situated on is absolutely gorgeous. There are rocks out front that gather a little pool at at low tide which was fun for shell hunting, and soft sand beach to the right for swimming. The house was equipt with lots of toys! - paddle boards, (that we took to ten bay beach which is right down the road and probably the prettiest beach you'll ever see. (Also nice and calm if you have smaller ones with you) kayaks - everyone enjoyed kayaking out to see the little islands off Kataluma. As well as plenty other fun beach stuff. We spent most of our days relaxing by the stunning infinity pool, and if that's not enough, there is another pool located on the other side of the house. We actually would head there if it got too windy. The kitchen is fully equipt with anything you need as well. We went fishing and grilled up our catches. We made a point to sit down to family dinner every night at the big beautiful table overlooking the great views! Family dinners were everyone's favorite part. The home was so beautiful, we used the courtyard area for many of our wedding photos before we headed to our venue. The maintenence & housekeeping staff, Martin & Violet, were fabulous! They gave us great info on the island, and were a pleasure to talk to and were literally there in minutes if we needed anything. We even left violet some of our wedding cake since her birthday was during our stay. Be sure to check out the stars late night from the pool area. The sky is amazing at night at Kataluma! My family already can't wait to go back. Thank you for incredible memories that will last a lifetime! We are for sure Kataluma's newest fans! Xo!

Incredible Week!!

  • 5 of 5

We had 14 people staying at Kataluma for the week to celebrate my mom's 70th birthday. Ages range from 5 to 72! The house was amazing and had everything we needed. Anne was great and gave us great tips about beaches and restaurants. We had Chef Daniel come in and cook 2 dinner and a breakfast which were amazing. The house had everything we needed, and we especially enjoyed the paddleboards and the bikes. There was great snorkling right of the house, and we did take lots of trips to other parts of the island. What a week and what a house!!!!

Wonderful Private Home with a Great Layout

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Kataluma to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary with our 4 children and their families. We had a total of 14 people and had plenty of room for everyone. There was a private bedroom with ensuite bathrooms for each couple. The grandkids slept in the bunkroom and also had a bathroom for them. Between the pool table in the ground floor, the infinity pool just outside the living room, and the quick trip down to the beach, we were always busy. The layout of the kitchen, dining, living room gave us all plenty of room with no traffic problems. Everything was wonderful! We also would recommend booking a Fish Bones Tour to see the fantastic starfish, go fishing, snorkeling and see sights on Windemere Island. Taking the go carts to Lighthouse Beach is not to miss. The beach is beautiful! We truly enjoyed our entire week that just flew by. All the workers that came to the house were very pleasant and efficient. It was all just a tremendous experience! Thank You Again!

Lifetime Memories for Our Whole Family

  • 5 of 5

When my parents decided they wanted to do a family getaway for their 50th wedding anniversary with all of us kids, our spouses, and our children, we considered a resort option, which turned out to be very costly once we looked into accommodations + food. Then we found Kataluma House which seemed to check all of the boxes for us: private, big enough to fit everyone in one common property, spacious, modern, with freedom & flexibility to cook our own meals & engage in the activities of our choice. Once we arrived, it more than delivered!

1. The house is amazing. The size and layout was perfectly suited for our family group of 15 (8 adults, 6 young adults in their late teens & 20's, one 7 year old). The large open gathering space connected to the kitchen with huge dining room table overlooking the ocean was breath-taking. The bedrooms with access to their own bathroom is genius and gave everyone privacy. Having a pool table, the bunk beds downstairs, and the assortment of games in the cabinet was well used and thoroughly enjoyed. The sound system and the theater equipment was also something we took full advantage of and appreciated. We laughed a lot, played lots of games, and loved the joyful spirit that the surround sound added to the ambiance.

2. The saltwater infinity pool was soothing and therapeutic! Views of the ocean in the day and night sky were heavenly!

3. The recreational equipment provided were spot on. We not only enjoyed the water equipment but also trekked out on the sand bikes.

3. The Housekeeping crew & caretaker were superb & delightful. All of those who came to assist us with cleaning and household needs were so attentive and warm. We felt well taken care of! Big thanks to Anne and her team! :)

4. The island excursions and getaways were just what the doctor ordered, not to mention the fun fish fry our last night on the island.

5. The property management team (Matt & Tara) coordinated all of our preliminary arrangements, kept track of us, made sure we arrived, and provided us with all of the resources we asked for - including the brilliant tip about pre-ordering our groceries to have them delivered & put away by the time we arrived on the property!

Overall, this trip was about as memorable as we could have hoped for. I think our favorite part is how "non-commercial" and serene the island of Eleuthera is which lent itself to a very peaceful atmosphere where we focused so much on the things that matter most.
