About the property

Escape from your daily routine to enjoy this beautiful farmland property on the Wallkill River. The spacious, cathedral ceilinged living room will make you feel right at home to curl up with a book or enjoy a movie on the 50” TV. In addition to the lovely 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths, this house has a large 18x30 deck with a grill, ideal for entertaining groups or simply enjoying your morning coffee. The river is a short walk away where you will find another deck and chairs perfect for enjoying an evening sunset. When the temperature drops, the stone fireplace makes for a cozy night with a glass of wine or a fun game night with the numerous board games available! Remodeled in the spring of 2012, this house includes a brand new, up to date kitchen with a dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, icemaker, and almost any kitchen appliances you may need. This place is certainly your perfect “home away from home!”

Should you be traveling with your horses this property has a 2 stall barn with electric, running water, and 2 acres of fenced in land a short drive from 25,000 acres of trail riding at the Mohonk Preseve or Minnewaska State Park.

The Master bedroom is a loft above the common area, with a king size bed and private doorway to the bathroom. Two additional bedrooms have king beds. The “kids” room has a full/twin bunk-bed and a bucket of toys available for use. The luxurious upstairs bathroom enjoys heated floors, a claw foot bathtub and a 12 inch rain shower head. Second downstairs bathroom has additional shower.

Kitchen has a propane gas range, single oven, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator with icemaker/water dispenser. Fully stocked with dishes, glasses, silverware, pots and pans! Almost any kitchen necessities are here! Feel free to ask if you have specific questions.

The house has a washer/dryer if needed.

Back deck has a propane grill with plenty of seating.

There is an abundance of wood stocked in the basement for the fireplace. There is also a kayak, bikes, golf clubs and fishing rods available for you use. Should you decide to venture off the property, you will find the area has much to offer.

Published in National Geographic as one of their top 50 adventure towns to visit, New Paltz is a great place for exploring. Mohonk preserve and Minnewaska State part offer 25,000 acres of hiking, biking, horsebackriding, and of course world-renowned rock climbing “the Gunks.” There are numerous farm stands and apple orchards to visit where they frequently have ‘pick your own’ options for a playful afternoon. The Hudson Valley wine trail also includes Robibero (1/2 mile away), Whitecliff, and Adair wineries all in close proximity. There are spa’s to visit, numerous shops and art stores, and wonderful restaurants. Please take some time to read the book in the house that I have put together on the areas activities.

****Please do not smoke inside the property, and inquire about additional cleaning fee if you come with your animals!

About Shawn Pressley

I am originally from Toronto Canada , but have lived in the States since '99.

My job had me living out of a suitcase for many years before I could finally call Manhattan my home, where after many years of living in the crazy city, I found myself some green space!

Shawn Pressley purchased this house in 2000

Why Shawn Pressley chose New Paltz

I happened to have been invited up to New Paltz for the weekend and it became love at first sight. The area has so much to offer, from hiking , to kayaking, horse back riding , sky diving , culinary delights with many quality restaurants opening up around town, Mohonk Mountain House & Spa, or simply, the easy drive out of the city for some peace, fresh air and tranquility.

The area itself captured my heart with the Catskill mountains as a backdrop, and the every changing Wallkill river at it's base.

I loved living here, I loved having my horses in the back yard and the dogs running around the property.

Guestbook comments from the owner

thanks. things have been just perfect. we took some walks and did some other things. It was a good chance for my wife to be with her two boys and their families. the house was perfect and everything was first class. we used a lot of firewood and enjoyed it. I was up here a lot many years ago but only on day trips to hike or x-country ski, never just to relax. thanks again for everything and happy new year to you.

Terrific find among New Paltz properties

  • 5 of 5

I enjoyed my short stay at Shawn's home. Everything from the location to the property to the customer service Shawn provided was outstanding. Whenever I look for a home to rent I strive to find a comfortable place. It's hard to know if the home is truly comfortable by the photos, but Shawn's home was. The living area which includes the kitchen and the living room made the experience terrific. I took complete advantage of the deck, having my breakfast there every morning. I would rent the home again especially if I can do so for a longer period of time.

Serene and idealic

  • 5 of 5

My family converged on this house from random locations, mostly Boston and NYC. It was a idealic meeting spot somewhere in the middle. Its a large house with plenty of space. The kitchen is incredibly well stocked. The beds are comfortable. The grounds are well kept. The path to the stream is charming. The the town is really just lovely. But above and beyond that, Shawn was so gracious and welcoming. Looking to get away from it all? - this is the place.

Nice home on the river, peaceful and serene

  • 4 of 5

We were a party of 8 adults (4 couples) staying for a weekend hiking trip. This home met our needs. Bathrooms were clean. There were plenty of towels and soaps/shampoos. Beds are so comfy. Owner left us a bottle of wine too! Living room had enough space for us to enjoy game night. We used the grill for our bbq and even walked over to the river to use the firepit for an evening campfire to make s'mores! Plenty of firewood by the fireplace and more in the garage if needed. Didn't have enough time to make use of the bikes or kayaks.

Depending on which direction you are driving from you may miss the driveway. The house # is labeled on the mailbox on one side. The other side is missing some numbers so we initially drove past the property.

Master br has an open wall that overlooks the living room. It was cool to be able to look down and talk to others in the living room but be careful of standing too close to the edge as anyone walking up the staircase may see you naked. Also, consider giving this room to someone in your party who 1) wakes up the earliest or 2) is a heavy sleeper because you will hear everything and your sleep will be disturbed if someone else is walking around the house!

Minor issue - The water was too soft for us NYC residents used to feeling sneaky clean. We didn't understand what was happening until we googled why our hands felt so slimey after trying forever to rinse off the soap! May not be an issue for others but it waa definitely an issue for us as we are not used to soft water at all.

Finally - I recommend for the owner to replace the kitchen blender. It was disgustingly dirty and the motor is old. Despite washing it, dirt from the motor rose into the blender and I had to discard the frozen drink I was trying to make :( I doubt anyone has used it in years so the owner may not know about this. Definitely need a replacement.

Overall the house met our needs and we enjoyed our time here. The property is so peaceful especially when standing on the deck. The owner was very helpful in providing recommendations on local attractions and restaurants via email a few weeks before our trip and was quick to answer any questions we had before and during our trip. A few hiccups but not deal breakers.

Owner's Response: Thank you kindly for letting me know about the blender! A replacement is on it way:) As for the water, I can assure you that it is safe to cook, clean and bathe in . I just replaced (fall 2016)the whole water system and added an extra filtration system for small particles. The water is definitely not as 'harsh' as chlorinated city water but cleans you just the same:)

Couldn't reccomend the house more!

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible time renting this house for the 4th of July weekend! The house itself is absolutely beautiful - gorgeous bedrooms, fully-stocked kitchen, clean towels, large grill, and amazing backyard.

The area itself is also a delight. Shawn left us some great recommendations for places to eat, hikes to take, and other things to do - as well as a chilled bottle of wine :)

Couldn't recommend this house more - we would 100% book again!
