Charming villa directly on the beach, located on the the popular West Coast. Master bedroom has private porch overlooking the Caribbean Sea and beach. This home has been lovingly cared for by the same family for 30 years and is the ideal vacation spot for two couples or a family of four. You cannot find a home closer to the water, and it is a true escape, surrounded by a lush tropical, lit garden. However, if you choose to have an active vacation, you can find a wide range of activities within 20 minutes of the house. Golf, tennis, water sports, shopping, etc. are all within reach. Housekeeping is provided, and additional services such as on-site massage, transfer to/from the airport and driver are available for an extra charge. The house is situated in Half Moon Fort, a tranquil fishing community with two restaurants and a convenience store. The supermarket in Speightstown and the fish market in Six Men's Bay would complete all of your grocery shopping needs. Master bedroom has a queen bed and second bedroom has two twin beds. Both rooms have sinks and air-conditioning.
We have done VRBOs both abroad and in the states for many years and have learned that it is about doing research and having the right expectations. The negative review below was posted shortly before we were to arrive at our rental and needless to say, it made us a tad nervous.
Overall, this rental worked perfect for us and it was the beach and water in front of the house and the friendly locals that made it perfect. We swam and snorkeled twice a day everyday and enjoyed greeting and chatting with the locals that showed up every morning and evening to do the same. Besides us, there were no more than 2 or 3 other people on the beach and often we were the only ones. The water is clear and clean with a sandy bottom and we saw great fish and even turtles while snorkeling.
The house is simple with no frills and we ended up enjoying the simpleness of it all. Everything in the house worked and worked well and we were never in need of anything. We cooked about half of our meals at the house and found all the kitchen supplies that we needed. The air conditioners in the bedrooms worked well for cooling and drying the air for sleeping. The beds were comfortable and there were plenty of sheets and towels. The house does need some exterior painting and maintenance, but it did not detract from our experience. After each day of touring around the island, we were always looking forward to coming back to our place to swim and chill.
We would recommend renting a car as it is fun to travel all over the island seeing different sites and areas. It also makes it a bit easier for groceries. During our stay, the beaches down by Bridgetown and the Crane were filled with seaweed and the water had sea lice (stinging larva of jellyfish) which made us appreciate our beach even more!
If you want luxury accommodations or enjoy being with other tourists, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want to experience the real Barbados from a more local perspective, this is a great rental.
The grounds of this villa were very pretty and the caretaker who met us, quite charming. Beyond that, there's little I can say that's overly positive. The pictures posted do not represent the actual house as it is currently. It is substantially more rundown than pictured. The beach is certainly not private either but is rather a very busy place for locals. The bed in the front room had no cover and the sheets were stained. The drapes were stained with mold and the ever present bars on every window made us feel like we were in a prison. Perhaps a reflection of the neighborhood in which this house is located. We witnessed some "nasty" goings on below our bedroom window which really made up our minds to leave.
Our booking was for 3 weeks but we relocated to another part of the island after one week. We communicated with the owner who was "accommodating" to our concerns. I cannot understand the stellar written reviews for this property. Barbados is expensive so maybe to some this represents value. We could not recommend this property without substantial improvements.
This house is in a quiet little fishing village. It is not as private as I thought, as there are small houses on each side, but it is pretty private. It is an older house, but it is really comfortable, and it really grew on us. We loved it more each day , and after 2 weeks we didn't want to go. It is on the west coast of Barbados, which is the nicest for swimming and beaches and good restaurants. We went to Mullins beach alot to keep our teenage boys busy. Post St. Charles beach is also nice. We did our grocery shopping in Holetown. It was a 15 minute drive away. Sprightstown was a little run down. There is also a small grocery store down the road from the house. (a 2 minute walk) MY favorite beach in Barbados was Crane beach. It's worth the trip! OUr favorite restaurants were The Lone Star, The Tides, Daphnes (a little pretentious, but the food was good), and the Fishing Pot. Eric, the care taker stopped by once in awhile, and he is really nice. The snorkeling in front of the house is a treat, and falling asleep each night to the sound of the ocean is priceless!
We were looking for a quiet, warm vacation and decided to rent this villa for two weeks. The reviews were terrific but I still had questions and uncertainties. John, the owner, was great at addressing all of my questions, and my trust in him was rewarded. First, the other reviews are mostly accurate in the details; certainly their accolades were warranted. The villa is charming; the gardens are lovely and well planned; the beach is a soft white sand and the oceanfront perfect for swimming; and snorkeling in front is as good as Folkestone Marine Park and Carlisle Beach (the two main snorkeling areas on Barbados). What the other reviews don't quite get at is how perfect the villa is for day to day living. Based on the photos, I assumed we'd spend most of our time on the upper deck. In fact, based on sun and temperature we moved around the home, and actually spent most of our time in the lower level enclosed patio. The living area on the main level was also very nice; and the kitchen is very well outfitted for all food and drink preparation. The bedrooms were on the same level, and we enjoyed using the second bedroom as our dressing area. Having a sink in both bedrooms was also handy. We also liked the location. Moontown isn't developed like so much of the west coast and we enjoyed having a more "Bajan" experience. The people are all lovely - friendly and helpful. Without a doubt we would love to return to Barbados and this charming villa.
Having just returned from my first ever trip to Barbados I am very happy to heartily recommend Half Moon fort to anyone as a holiday rental. This is a long term family holiday home and has a very welcoming feel to it as well as a quite superb beach front setting, complete with fish and coral to snorkel around. Several great restaurants within easy reach and very friendly locals.
This house is in such a unique wonderful location, it takes your breath away. A few steps and you're swimming in the wonderful warm Carribean sea on a beach that you mostly have for yourself.
Really comfortable beds and a great walk-in shower - what more do you need?
Only 20 minutes from Holetown by car - we recommend renting one!! - if you fancy a night out on the town and a fancy restaurant, it's not far at all. On the other hand, you are not in the middle of tourist town and we really enjoyed that. What was so nice is every day these 3 lovely little dogs came down to the beach and we got to know them. We ended up going for walks with them up the beach at low tide and it made us feel really at home.
Little things like this make a stay in your own home so different from a hotel.
John the owner is a lovely guy - responded quickly to our mails and made the whole reservation process very easy.
Eric the caretaker came round quite regularly and we met Caroline the cleaning lady when we arrived. Both were very nice and made us feel very welcome.
We will definitely be returning!!
