In the fall Lake Wauramaug becomes a beautiful back drop to the changing of the leaves.
There are many top rated restaurants nearby including The Community Table (10 minutes down the road on Route 202), The West Grill in Litchfield (a 15 minute drive), and The Hopkins Inn (opposite the house) on the lake with spectacular views and its own winery. In addition there is Olivia right down the road, which has delicious Italian food and wine.
As for shopping there are many places to head. New Preston is just two minutes from the house, and although it has only six or seven shops they are all intriguing. Woodbury--15 minutes from the house-- is famous for its antiques. Litchfield, just down the road on Route 202, is a kind of preppy heaven, and Kent has more than its share of galleries. All of them are close to the house. Northwest Ct. is beautiful whichever direction you head.
I rented this house for two weeks for a group of 5 clients and friends
from around the world. They were totally delighted with their experience.
Although the house is neither large nor elegant, it sits magically overlooking
Lake Waramaug which is easily accessible for swimming and boating. And you enjoy a very comfortable dwelling both inside where rooms have AC , TV, WiFi, etc. Outside is an outstanding barbecue area and fire pit. The house is good, quaint, and fun, flexible to accommodate a variety of people, whether family or friends. The owner Phyllis and her assistant Danielle are great communicators, and Eduardo is the caretaker who is always available should a need arise. All in all, you cannot find better value in the area for a sweet Summer get-away.
We rented the cottage for the month of September, and had a great experience. There are 2 full bathrooms (one on each floor), with 3 bedrooms downstairs, with additional space to sleep upstairs...so there was room for our extended family to stay. There is a great dock for swimming and boating, with a canoe and kayak provided by the owner. We especially loved the screened-in porch, and the outside patio area with a large gas grill/comfortable table for fun meals overlooking the lake. There is a cozy fireplace downstairs for evening fires on cooler evenings. We loved walking and biking around the lake, and hiking on many beautiful nearby trails. We enjoyed the great restaurants nearby, our favorite being the Hopkins Inn. Phyllis, the owner, was very nice, and very accessible, bending over backwards to make us happy. We would definitely recommend this cottage.
