With a full renovation of this 1800s farmhouse and significant additions recently completed, the farmhouse provides country charm with comfortable 21st century living. Set at the edge of open fields, the house is close to town, shopping, the ski slopes, golf, the reservoir and mountains, the vonTrapp Lodge trails and amenities. There is something for everyone. An expansive new family room with a large stone fireplace and kitchen with all new appliances provide a wonderful gathering place for friends and families. If you want quiet or to work at your computer, you can retire to the study. Bedrooms and bathrooms are spread out in various parts of the house lending privacy for multiple families or age groups. A plunge in the hot tub awaits you right outside the back door as a perfect finale to a fun-filled day.
My husband and I live in Philadelphia, PA. We have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. Our whole family loves the outdoors, so we gather here often and enjoy all that Stowe and this wonderful house provide.
Betsy Longstreth purchased this farmhouse in 2001
My brother who lives in Stowe picked this house out for us. He called me telling me he had found 'my house.' We had not been considering buying a second home - however, he knew he had me with the rural, cozy charm of the farmhouse with its perfect location. He knew another good thing. Owning his own construction company, he was responsible for all of the recent renovations and additions..... so I know the work was done well.
The house is an iconic part of Stowe - as you drive along Luce Hill Road and look across the fields--the house, the surrounding farm and the mountains and ski slopes in the background form a classic Vermont scene. The charm of the old and new wide-planked floors, the fireplace, the light-filled windows that look out to incredible views, and the simple yet comfortable country style living creates wonderful times for families and friends to enjoy. With its central location, all can head out in different directions whether to the bike path, the mountains, the spa, or town--all just minutes away.
The Bouchard Farmhouse was the perfect space for us. We were in Stowe for a family wedding, and the house was great! Well appointed, plenty of room to be together or to have quiet time. From the big kitchen island, to the front porch, roomy back patio, comfy living areas and the hot tub, the space was super comfortable. Big windows allowed gorgeous views from every turn. The property is very private, yet close enough to town and attractions to make it convenient....Close to Trapp Family Lodge, recreation path, corn maze, and hiking. Bedrooms and bathrooms were spread out in the house which was nice. The foliage was quite a sight to see. We were very glad we selected this farmhouse vs. a hotel....more time to spend together just hanging out and catching up (we came from RI, NY and CO to attend the wedding). We will definitely be back if Vermont is in our plans, and would recommend this house to anyone who wants to make special memories in Stowe in any season.
The interior of the home was well decorated with modern amenities and was exceptionally clean. The bedrooms are spaced out in such a way that there is plenty of privacy. The larger bed was comfortable but the twin beds were a little disappointing and the mattresses tilted. That being said the wifi was solid, plenty of tv stations and really nice appliances. Plus, the homeowner did a fantastic job of setting up the house for our arrival. There was a custom letter and gift upon arrival and a wonderful book with instructions on how to do anything in the house.
The exterior of the house was charming though there seemed to be a large number of spider webs/nests near the doors. Maybe it is a seasonal thing but it still gave me the heebie jeebies. The gardens were beautiful even late in the season and the hot tub was clean and easy to operate. There was a good amount of privacy though there were lots and lots of farm trucks driving super fast along the dead end road (we happened to be there as the corn was being harvested so I think that's atypical)
The location is close to the rec path (though you need to walk/bike in a busy stretch of road) which is one of our favorite Stowe activities. You are also right near all the good restaurants and resorts without being on the main strip. You get some good views of the farmland and mountains in the distance.
Lastly, I know I mentioned the cleanliness before but this house exceeded my expectations. One of my daughters has terrible dust allergies and did not have a single flare up while we were there which is pretty unprecedented at a rental or hotel property. Kudos to the homeowners for keeping the house so tidy.
Our visit to Stowe over the holidays 2015 was a trip of a lifetime for our family! There are so many fun activities for all ages to do in the Stowe area, as well as numerous delicious restaurants. The favorite part of our trip, hands down, was staying at the Bouchard Farmhouse!! It was called “Mimi’s Christmas House” by our young grandchildren. The house felt just like home for all of us. We enjoyed breakfasts and dinners every day gathered around the beautiful large dining room table, with evenings spent in the kitchen/family room area, with the fireplace blazing and our stockings hung at the mantle. The bedrooms were located perfectly for our family so that the little ones could nap in a quiet area away from the family room. The house is equipped with all the comforts of home and then some. It was spotlessly clean and bright, with very comfy beds. My favorite room in the house was the “mud room” where we could all hang our coats and hats, and place our boots and extras—a grandma’s dream come true room!! Thank you, Betsy and family, for providing such an awesome home for us to celebrate my “special” birthday with my family as well as celebrate Christmas together. We love your farmhouse, and we would be honored to return again for more memories.
The moment we turned into the driveway, we knew we had found a special place to enjoy a family gathering. The setting is stunning. Corn fields, apple trees, mountain range in the distance, and then we walked inside...light, charm, warmth and taste. The designer kitchen opens to the family room with ample seating and a wonderful fireplace. The house is filled with light, doors opening to the back yard fire pit and hot tub, front door to a porch with comfortable chairs. Bedrooms were perfect and the upstairs master bedroom with futon in the sitting room was great for my son 's young family. They owners provided a "pack and play" crib for the 9 month old! Very thoughtful !
Location is great- close to town- the mountain, 10 Acres Restaurant is right up the road where we had our family night dinner!
We will cherish the memories of our daughters Stowe wedding and for the serenity and relaxation that your home provided to us all. We would love to return and will try to get on the calendar. This is a gem!
This Farmhouse provided the perfect vacation for our family, and a long anticipated birthday wish and dream was fulfilled to the maximum. Betsy and Peter have thought of everything to make a trip to Vermont an idyllic and unmatched getaway. Betsy was a joy to work with and exuded charming Vermont hospitality. This Farmhouse exceeded our expectations. The kitchen provided all that was needed to enjoy dining at the farmhouse while enjoying the magnificent scenery. We loved the excellent job in designing, renovating, and decorating the beautiful new portion of your home. Great Job!! It's cozy, comfortable, and spacious design is perfect for family gatherings. There are not enough words and adjectives to describe the wonderful time we had at this farmhouse.
Just a couple of literal minutes away there are numerous restaurant options for eating out in beautiful Stowe. Hiking and bicycle trails abound. Skiing during the winter!
We can't wait to return! Many Thanks!!
This house is wonderful!! An old farmhouse with a beautiful, newly renovated addition. The property is private yet close to all the activity. It is very clean, well-maintained with new landscaping and a nice hot tub. The bedrooms are comfortable and spread out. The kitchen/family room are attractive, and inviting for a crowd. Celebrating a milestone birthday, our meals were festive and fun at the house. We also had a delicious dinner out at Cactus Cafe and enjoyed a beer at the Trapp Brewery, just up the road, where we saw a moose! The location is perfect to enjoy all that Vermont has to offer. For our early summer visit, we biked along the bike trail (which is very close to the house), we hiked Mt. Mansfield and we had fun doing the zip line at Smugglers Notch. All this to say, I would highly recommend this property for your stay in Vermont.
Winter, Summer, Fall and Spring, scenic Stowe is a premier vacation locale for those who enjoy the outdoors and change of seasons with top-notch downhill & cross country skiing, biking, rivers and lakes for fishing & boating, mountains to view, hike and climb, antique shops to visit, a variety of fun restaurants and night life, and of course, Ben and Jerry's famous Ice Cream to see in the making.
