About Betsy Longstreth
My husband and I live in Philadelphia, PA. We have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. Our whole family loves the outdoors, so we gather here often and enjoy all that Stowe and this wonderful house provide.
Betsy Longstreth purchased this Farmhouse in 2001
Why Betsy Longstreth chose Stowe
My brother who lives in Stowe picked this house out for us. He called me telling me he had found 'my house.' We had not been considering buying a second home - however, he knew he had me with the rural, cozy charm of the farmhouse with its perfect location. He knew another good thing. Owning his own construction company, he was responsible for all of the recent renovations and additions..... so I know the work was done well.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
The house is an iconic part of Stowe - as you drive along Luce Hill Road and look across the fields--the house, the surrounding farm and the mountains and ski slopes in the background form a classic Vermont scene. The charm of the old and new wide-planked floors, the fireplace, the light-filled windows that look out to incredible views, and the simple yet comfortable country style living creates wonderful times for families and friends to enjoy. With its central location, all can head out in different directions whether to the bike path, the mountains, the spa, or town--all just minutes away.

The ideal place to enjoy your time in Vermont
My family (7 adults, 1 toddler) stayed here 27 Sep-3 Oct 2018 for a family reunion. Being able to stay together made the week extra special and the farmhouse felt like home. We cooked meals in the well-stocked kitchen. We ate together and played games at the eight-person dining table. We sat together in the living room in front of a crackling fire or on the front porch watching the colors change. We all watched in wonder through the front windows as a falcon chased a squirrel, a black bear ambled through the front yard, and a wild turkey strutted around. Sadly, we didn't use the hot tub or outside fire pit.
The farmhouse was also an excellent base from which to explore the area. We enjoyed walking the Stowe Recreation Path to the farmer's market, Piecasso (ate there twice), and PK Coffee (went there three times). Stowe Village, the drive up Mount Mansfield, and Sterling Forest (highly recommend hiking the gorge) are just a few minutes drive away. Cold Hollow Cider Mill and Ben & Jerry's in Waterbury aren't much farther. Even Montpelier and Burlington are only 30-45 minutes away.
Two minor gripes. This is really a four-bedroom house. The fifth "bedroom" is a bed on the open landing outside the upstairs master bedroom. A person could sleep there, but they would have little privacy. The Wi-Fi doesn't reach everywhere in the house and the bandwidth isn't great. It took my brother all night to download a short (<20 mins) video. Neither of those issues detracted from our stay since we used the four bedrooms and didn't come for the Wi-Fi.
Our time together at the farmhouse will always be precious to all of us. I cannot recommend the house highly enough for your visit to Vermont.
So glad it worked so well for your family, and thanks so much for the feedback. Eight people is our limit on occupancy so the number of rooms listed with the loft being “5” has seemed to work well for all over the years, and we will look into WiFi upgrade. We definitely want to stay current so guests have easy access to all the new technologies. Great to have you. Sounds like there was some pretty special sitings.
Charming farmhouse with modern amenities
Lovely home, nestled in a secluded field just a few miles from downtown Stowe
Beautiful home and location
So glad you enjoyed it!!!
Wow! What a fantastic house! What a great location!
My wife and spent a fabulous week at the Bouchard farmhouse with my three siblings and our spouses—-8 folks all around 60+. We couldn’t have had a better experience given this home and it’s amenities. The owners were wonderfully receptive right from the jump and throughout our entire stay. We are “Stowe-folk” and familiarity with the area runs deep in our family given our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents etc are buried in the Northeast Kingdom. We gather as family and friends each summer and return every Spring and Fall to tend graves and visit with family and friends. The Bouchard farmhouse afforded us the location to embark on all our journeys while having a delightful base camp to welcome guests. Coffee in the cool m mornings on the porch was a terrific escape from our hit and humid Chesapeake Bay life (but I carry a sprinkler of Old Bay wherever I go)! Being close to the village yet very near the Stowe walking trail at the Chase park entrance affords acces to a ten mile park-like routine for the ancient and young alike. The house is just off Mountain Road and all of its tourist attractions and at the base of the road that leads up to Von Trappe Lodge while also being a stones-throw drive to Spruce Peak and a drive through Smugglers Notch. While my skiing days are largely behind me I would definitely enjoy the Bouchard Farmhouse in the Winter months. In sum, we would and will rent this place again for sure! The week couldn’t have gone better for my family and at its core the reason was the Farmhouse...it was like being home. I highly recommend this rental and it’s owners. What a treat it was!
Wow! Thanks for the most positive review, and we are so happy to hear it worked out so well for you and your group. We look forward to welcoming you back any time! Best, Betsy
Great location, wonderful house and owner/host (Betsy). 1800s home discreetly updated.
Beautiful views, close to town and activities. Couldn’t ask for a better vacation for our family of grandparents, daughter/son-in-law and granddaughters.
Once again, we are very lucky to have wonderful renters who enjoy the house and their time in Stowe! Thanks to them!
Beautiful home and property!
Betsey was a fantastic host, and her farmhouse was the perfect place to spend school vacation week. We were very comfortable in her home and enjoyed relaxing by the fire or in the hot tub. My girls loved seeing the deer visit the fields at dusk each night. The house is close to the Trapp Family Lodge, Ben and Jerry’s, skiing, ice skating, restaurants, and all that Stowe has to offer.
Thanks so much for your complimentary review. We are thrilled you had a wonderful visit and family time at the house and at Stowe.
Winter, Summer, Fall and Spring, scenic Stowe is a premier vacation locale for those who enjoy the outdoors and change of seasons with top-notch downhill & cross country skiing, biking, rivers and lakes for fishing & boating, mountains to view, hike and climb, antique shops to visit, a variety of fun restaurants and night life, and of course, Ben and Jerry's famous Ice Cream to see in the making.
