Home is relatively close to every important place in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Research Triangle area - N C State University, UNC campus & hospital, Duke University campus and medical center, RDU airport, major interstate highways- & easy access to downtown Raleigh, museums & art galleries - this is place to be.
This subdivision was once a plantation. The plantation house still exists & is just up the road from the property on Castlebrook Drive. Raleigh is situated midway between beautiful North Carolina mountains and spectacular beaches Drive 2 hours west to see mountains or 2 hours east to visit beach and the antebellum city of Wilmington - is still an active port city but most popular attraction is the battleship North Carolina moored across the river from the downtown Cotton Exchange shopping area. Has old South feel. Good restaurants on the water too.
Other: visit well regarded NC Zoo or Aquariums....or take a day trip to 'Straw Valley' home to several of North Carolina's renowned potters & their galleries.
NC State Campus is about 15 minutes from the property. It is the flagship campus for engineering ,textiles and design of UNC system - worth a visit. Just a short drive to Duke. The Duke Chapel, a classic Westminster style, boasts many 'claims to fame' Stained glass windows of deep colors - all the blue glass purchased from Blenko Glass & anyone who knows glass, knows Blenko. Don't miss the Sarah P. Duke Gardens that are maintained by many expert botanists so that each season the plantings provide a beautiful display of the flowers of that particular season. UNC is located in Chapel hill and is home of a terrific basketball team. You can visit the botanical gardens or the Morehead Planetarium for a fun filled adventure. Top of the hill distillery is also located in Chapel Hill and you can sip a few local brews!
This property is only about a mile and a half from a city park where tennis courts are available and the Neuse River trails are within walking distance. Neighborhood is fantastic for an early morning job or after dinner walk.
As stated earlier, there is sooooo much available in this area that listing everything here is a bit difficult but information will be made available at the house for your review and enjoyment. The seasonal changes are beautiful.
Thanks for your interest in our property.
PLEASE NOTE: We do allow ‘small’ events (reunions, birthday celebrations and even small weddings)
Please read the guidelines below to see if we can accommodate your event.
There is an event fee of $500 and can accommodate UP TO 25 people We cannot exceed that number of guests as city guidelines will not permit it. We are also on a private septic/well and it’s not equipped to handle large groups. Parking space is limited as we cannot allow street parking. There is no driving or parking on the lawn. Noise must be kept to a minimum and all music, celebrations must be turned off and toned down by 8pm. We live in a private neighborhood and most residents have lived here for many years. We like to respect the privacy of our neighbors.
Garbage that exceeds the provided trash cans (6 large bins) must be removed by tenant. The wildlife will make a big mess if garbage is accessible.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have. We try to accommodate our guests the best way possible.
Older, retired folks with a house that is too big. Spend a lot of time in southern Florida but when in NC, occupy a private suite with own entrance, deck, etc. Cannot see or hear guests and vice versa. Diligently respect guests privacy but are available if any problems.
Norma & Carroll Matthews purchased this house in 1971
The property provides wonderful entertainment areas..is close to many interesting, beautiful and historical NC places. It provides space and furniture for family enjoyment...antiques furniture and a home sweet home atmosphere. Wonderful sun room overlooks the pond & grounds. Grill for outside grilling. Serene atmosphere but near all the city amenities.
My family and I traveled from Louisville, KY to Raleigh to celebrate my brother in-laws 40th birthday. Though we rented a place to have the celebration, this beautiful home provided more than enough room for majority of the Raleigh family to come by each day during our stay to have dinner, watch movies, relax and just enjoy each other. Normally, we would stay in a hotel when we visit our family in Raleigh, but now my husband has been spoiled and he does not want to stay anywhere else during our visits. And of course, Norma was the BEST!
Thanks Norma for everything. We will definitely be back!
We needed a house for family members who were traveling from across the country to gather and celebrate a family event, and this one delivered. The flexible and numerous sleeping options worked well. Those who needed privacy could have it, those who didn't mind sharing space could do so. All amenities were as listed. What we did not expect was the spectacular view from the sun room! The owner was helpful and friendly. It was easy to access from the airport, and Uber drivers had no trouble finding it for drop offs and pick ups. Shopping and restaurants are nearby, yet the neighborhood is quiet and secluded. Great play space for youngsters. Would absolutely return if the occasion arises.
A special touch of fresh roses on the table says it all!!! Everything was perfect!! We hosted a bluegrass jamming event and all our guest loved their experience in this lovely home. Yes, the sun room was the highlight!!! Everyone wanted to jam in the sun room!!! Early morning coffee overlooking the pond and watching the geese was relaxing . It was home away from home and more !!!! Thank you!! We highly recommend this home !! We will definitely be returning soon!!!
The owners are prompt & responsive. The house is big & has plenty of everything. We were 2 seniors, 3 young adults & a toddler for 2 separate events over 4 nights. While not the most luxurious place we've ever stayed, it was comfortable, accommodating & well stocked. I especially appreciated that there are good reading lamps beside the beds & the chairs.
My friends and I had an amazing 4-day stay here. The host was super accommodating, and the property was gorgeous. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in Raleigh!
We stayed at the Matthew's house for my son Matthew's wedding the weekend after Hurricane Matthew visited NC. It was a great weekend. The house met our needs perfectly. As a result of the hurricane, there were some issues with house that prevented us from using the basement as planned. The owner was very apologetic and worked diligently to make sure we were comfortable in the main house. We were very comfortable. The owner and manager were in contact several times to make sure that we had what we needed. The house is large and beautiful, lots of space and very comfortable. I would definitely recommend this property and I would stay again. We also used the caterer next door for the rehearsal dinner and it was a wonderful event. We had a cool Fall evening, a full moon, a fire pit, and some great food and it was all right next door. The Matthews had recommended him and we are so thankful they did.
Surrounded by the city but country 'feel'. fantastic location for access to all important NC sites. Must see old state capital in center of downtown and Queen Anne historic governors mansion. The art museum is a must as well. While you are there go treat yourself to some warm Krispy Kreme doughnuts & coffee. (Caretakers/owners reside in small private area of property & are available to meet your needs)
