Why The Owner chose Cortona area

I fell in love with the area on one of our many trips to Italy and decided this was the place I wanted to retire. After renovating the house, I invited various friends to stay and use the house, they were so impressed that I decided to open the doors to other guests who would also appreciate the house, the area and the convenience to many of Tuscany and Umbria's historical and beautiful sites.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Casa Montisole is located on a hilltop above a beautiful agricultural valley with 180 degree views of countryside, valleys and nearby ancient castles. It is a magical place that is wonderful for relaxation or a great base to use for sightseeing and getting to know Tuscany and Umbria.

To describe Casa Montisole as absolute perfection is an understatement. I stayed at the beautiful house with a group of friends and I could not imagine a more wonderful trip. The house's interior is decorated with taste and the kitchen is fully equipped. All of our modernized needs and comforts were met (while keeping the Tuscan style in tact!) inside of a timeless, stone farmhouse- a perfect balance. The front yard is very large and I would have been happy staying out there for the entire trip. There is a wonderful wooden gazebo with a table underneath, perfect for eating meals at. The pool is great to cool down in while, of course, gazing out onto the rolling hills (talk about a view!). I also loved the feel of being surrounded by beautiful nature while laying out in the sun! There are also many olive groves and vineyards within walking distance. The rest of the trip was such an adventure- I highly recommend visiting the town of Cortona- and it was always so nice returning to Casa Montisole after exploring. The local town of Mercatale just down the hill should have all you need and has a very quaint feel to it which makes it nice to shop around and meet locals. I really appreciated how much work and thought the owners seem to put into their house to make it above and beyond for their guests. There is also a property manager who speaks great English who was very helpful. I will definitely be returning to Casa Montisole and would recommend it to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience!

Unforgettable vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Casa Montisole last October with two other of our couple friends. We had been planning this trip for a while and looked around a lot at many properties to rent, but decided on this one as it looked so nice in the photos. We were so pleased with our selection. It was even better in person. The rooms were a good size, the furniture and decor were very nice, modern, comfortable and chic. The bathrooms were fantastic- clean, modern, really nice. The interiors looked brand me and well designed, a perfect mix of modern faux with a 300 year old Italian country villa. We loved it as soon as we set foot inside and felt instantly right at home!

We were at first a little nervous about renting a house in the countryside, away from the average touristy areas. But it was absolutely fine. We found it easily (the owner gave us good directions). There was a property manager who let us in and helped us out when we needed it (she spoke English thankfully as none of us spoke Italian). The house was centrally located for planets of interesting day trips. And in the end we were just so happy just to spend a relaxing day at the house eating fresh homemade food and drinking quite a few bottles of good Italian wine out in the gardens of the house (when I'm Rome, do as the Romans do!). The weather was perfectly warm, we didn't use the pool but it was so nice to lay around it in the afternoons. It really was a dream vacation for all of us and hope to some day be able to return!

Made our vacation so special!

We couldn't be happier with our choice for this property. Everything was above our expectations. The house was well appointed and comfortable with all the basic needs that an American would enjoy and expect/want, yet still very charming in an old fashioned Italian, dreamy kind of way. (Our 2nd location for the trip, the following week in the north, was not nearly as nice). Our entire stay at the 'Casa Montisole' was absolutely delightful and we felt at home and part of the Italian countryside (the views are breathtaking and so relaxing!). The property manager was so helpful and spoke perfect English. Such a wonderful experience! We gladly give it five stars!

Heaven on Earth

Its hard to put words to a feeling of complete peace and tranquility, comfort and elegance, relaxation and adventure. Our time at your house was on of the highlights of my life. Laying by the pool overlooking a dreamy valley filled with the local harvest of family farms and medieval castles- it ewas mothing short of heaven. The house was beautifully appointed with every comfort of a modern home (unlike most Italian rentals), it was charming and so wonderfully Italian at the same time. We had fantastic day trips to some of the best sites and cities in Italy as the house is in a nice central location. I loved every minute and still dream of being there. We made some unforgettable memories... Any one who stays here will be ever so happy they chose this house!

Magical Montisole, near Cortona, Arezzo Province, Italy

  • 5 of 5

My family (daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters, ages 7 & 9) just returned from a truly magical week at Casa Montisole. The advert I read before I booked 6 months in advance didn't do it justice! It is an old stone and wood farmhouse with several levels, beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable, very clean and well-maintained. It really is a home away from home, with many amenities all of which were in perfect working order. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms modern with continuous hot water. The kitchen was well-fitted out with every conceivable (& expensive) piece of cookware necessary for a family of up to 8. The surrounding garden and further, the countryside, is etched in my mind forever! The pool was inviting and large enough for (non-Olympic) laps and is beautifully situated on the property. It comes with chaise lounges and umbrellas, as the sun is very strong. We particularly enjoyed going into Mercatale, (the nearest small village about a ten minute drive) for our morning breads from the local bakery. Also in Mercatale was "Mimmi's", a ristorante we visited twice as the food was family style (no menu) and absolutely the best pasta we had the two weeks we were in Italy...

Our daily excursions took us to Arezzo, Siena, Gubbio, Lago Trasimeno and Montepulchiano.

All were exciting adventures with lots of challenging driving. Every village and hill town was different and had plenty to offer tourists. I can honestly speak for my family when I say that we never had a bad meal anywhere in Italy, but especially in Tuscany and Umbria.

I would highly recommend Casa Montisole as the perfect vacation spot to bask in glorious

countryside and forget the problems of the world. It was an unforgettable holiday! Having just done my laundry, I'm ready to re-pack and return to that beautiful house.

We stayed at Casa Montisole in September 2011 for a week. It is a luxuriously renovated farmhouse, just beautiful and comfortable inside. We traveled with my father so the stairs were a bit of a challenge, but for most it would be the perfect get away. It is definately "away from it all" so very quiet. We loved some of the restaurants close by, Mimmi's was fabulous, in Mercatale, and the local winery has fabulous dinners also. We took day trips to many of the walled cities, which was fascinating. Our first time in Italy, and this place made it especially nice for us. Thanks Michael and Stephania!
