This house was a family home for over 10 years and was recently totally renovated. The property is perfectly nestled above Muir Beach with extensive beach frontage. The owners who are landscape architects designed extensive gardens that were featured in the book 'Gardens by the Sea' by Barbara Seagal, an English author; and featured in Garden Design as well. The house features wrap around decks that connect all the rooms to the outdoor, the gardens, and the ocean. All 4 bedrooms have ocean views. An extra feature of this property is a private studio on the hill which can be leased at the same time for an additional cost.
Other amenities include a BBQ on the deck, a deep jacuzzi tub, and a wonderful garden where you can enjoy the day with a great number of friends and guests.
We bought the property in 1990 and lived at the beach full time for 10 years. We recently remodeled the entire house to use it again as our vacation property and to feature as a VRBO. We are landscape architects and have won many awards for our work both nationally and internationally. David is a California native with a strong sensibility for the environment and conservation and Isis is a Brazilian native. We have lived in the US, Europe, and South America and have a strong international sensibility and design sense which is reflected in our house.

We bought this property from David's parents because of its location, the proximity to San Francisco for our work and all of the amenities the coast offers. As life long environmentalists and ocean enthusiasts there was no better place to live than facing the Pacific Ocean. We also wanted to keep this property in the family and have every intention of continuing the tradition with our children.
Flat ground in front of the house: all of the level areas were created by David and me to derive the greatest enjoyment of the property.Kids can play ball and other games on the lawn, we hosted fabulous Easter Egg hunts and birthday parties with more than 50 people enjoying the property and never feeling crowded.
I love Muir Beach. The hiking and biking is brilliant. This house sits right above the beach with awesome views . Love the chairs at the end of the garden overlooking the ocean. Can listen to the ocean lying in bed. House is very comfortable and great layout. Has everything we needed
I rented this house for six close girlfriends to celebrate a 60th birthday. When we unlocked the door and stepped in our eyes were immediately drawn to the incredible view of the Pacific Ocean from the large windows. The oohs and ahhs began! The house had everything we needed, the garden and patio are lovely, and each day we awoke to the beauty surrounding us. Just steps from the beach, we would wake early to walk the beach with coffee cup in hand. At night we watched the stars while relaxing in the hot tub. It was truly perfect.
I do want to share a warning that has nothing to do with the rental. While making a quick stop at the Muir Beach Overlook, thieves broke into our rental car and stole 3 purses. This happened very quickly and with a busy parking lot. Do not leave anything of value in your car!
We loved our stay at the Muir beach house. Beautiful area. Our kids had a fabulous time playing in the yard and walking to the beach. The house is beautiful with three bedrooms having an ocean view and a great kitchen. There's a great walking /hiking trail very nearby that we enjoyed each day. The only downside was we were not informed that the semi private beach is in fact a nude beach. Would have been nice to know having kids heading down by themselves.
Had a wonderful time with my siblings (all over 65), including a handicapped sister. The older home was very welcoming and comfortable. When we had a cold night we were able to light a great fire and talk story until late in the eve. Met Isis and was enchanted with her and her hope to make our stay as wonderful as she could make it. We hit a perfect time with sunny skies and warm spring weather. A short walk to the beach, and a private serene setting. Not the Ritz but a good, warm and roomy beach house.
We had a wonderful family vacation here in August 2015. Tucked away down a winding road in a peaceful Muir Cove community, this charming house is a perfect base for exploring San Francisco and the surrounding area. A two minute walk down the path is Muir beach in Muir cove where we explored tide pools, swam, skim boarded, and floated in the gentle swells. A 20 minute drive away is Stinson Beach, a cute beach town where the waves are bigger. We enjoyed boogie boarding here and visiting the book store and market. Beach tip: unless you're used to swimming in cold water, rent wet suits - they keep you warmer, give you added buoyancy, and let you stay in the water longer. A 10-15 minute drive away are the majestic Muir woods where we spent a day hiking and communing with nature. San Francisco is a 35-45 minutes drive away. We had a great time being tourists and riding the cable car, eating dim sum in Chinatown, visiting museums, and taking the Alcatraz tour. City tip: buy your tickets to Alcatraz as soon as you book your trip to San Francisco. Tickets sell out weeks in advance of tour dates. The house itself is beautifully decorated, spacious, with amazing views from most of the rooms and from the lovely lawns and hot tub. Our trip couldn't have been better and I can't imagine a nicer place to stay!
A beautiful, comfortable home that is on easy drive to wine country and SF (excluding the 6 miles of HWY 1, of course).
Muir Beach is located only 20 minutes from San Francisco which makes it a perfect location for year round residents. The community has a newly remodeled community center which is rented for weddings, parties, and other celebrations. We are located close to the Zen Center, Golden Gate National Recreation Center, Stinson Beach, and the famous Dipsea Trail from Mill Valley to Stinson beach.
