Guest Cottage on Five Acres - Private Hot Tub

Craftsman Cottage design

Private Hot tub

Two bedrooms - queen beds

Compact but complete kitchen

Oak floors - beautiful construction

Woodstove and furnace

Full bath - heated slate floor

Lone Fir Cottage is a private guest cottage on five sunny acres, adjacent to the Point Reyes National Seashore. The cottage features an open floor plan, with the main bedroom just three steps up from the living/dining area.

Both the main floor and the second bedroom are surrounded by windows on three sides, and the cottage has high ceilings. As you look into the tree-tops, the effect is light and airy -- like being in a nest!

The cottage has a wood-burning stove, a furnace, and a heated slate floor in the full bath. Beautiful hardwood floors, slate and copper counters, Douglas fir cabinetry and beamed ceilings, and wrought iron details decorate the interior.

There is a sunny south- and east-facing deck for outdoor dining, or just relaxing. A beautiful new private hot tub is steps from the deck.

On the other side of our seasonal creek lies the Pt. Reyes National Seashore, featuring miles of beaches and trails, over beautiful rolling hills. Our visitors watch whales and elephant seal pups in the winter, stroll through meadows of wildflowers in the spring, swim in the Bay in summer and fall, and dine in exceptional restaurants and visit galleries all year-long.

Elk, deer, fox and all manner of birds abound. Many of our guests comment, This is paradise!

Wonderful Getaway in the Woods!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is conveniently located with excellent access to Inverness, Pt. Reyes Station and all the wonderful beaches of Western Marin County. The cottage is quaint with a wonderful deck to enjoy morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evenings. Even though the kitchen is quite small the BBQ is more than adequate for preparing dinners. The cottage is next to the owners main home but still private. The cottage is also ideal for an adult couple and possibly young children who could use the upstairs bedroom for their privacy from mom and dad. 2 recommendations I would have would be to replace one of the couches in the living room as well as the upstairs bedroom mattress as they are both very soft.

Absolutely delightful!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect sanctuary for my husband and I to enjoy a few quiet days together to celebrate our wedding anniversary. VERY comfortable beds, magical wood stove, beautiful tree-filled views from every window, heated floors to keep us cozy and warm as we watched and listened to the rain pour down, down, down. So close to Olema and Pt Reyes Station, too. Can't wait to return!!

Comfy, cozy, well situated - with one drawback

  • 4 of 5

We spent a lovely 4 days/3 nights at Lone Fir Cottage. Eleanore, the owner, was very responsive and helpful. The cottage is cozy and quiet, surrounded by oaks, with partial ridge views. Wonderfully located, practically inside Pt Reyes National Seashore and a short drive to Point Reyes Station. The spacious hot tub (a highlight) was relaxing and therapeutic after long daily hikes. Remodeled bath is nicely appointed. Plenty of linens. Beds not new but comfortable. Books, puzzles, DVD player kept us entertained in the evenings, plus wi-fi, which we appreciated. Did not use the fireplace, as it was warm so we did not need it. The one negative: the kitchen is really not adequate and the mini refrigerator is too small, even for just two adults. We tried using our coolers but food spoiled anyway. There's a gas grill on the deck, but we did not use it due to our short stay and concerns about storing raw ingredients and leftovers. This might not be a big deal to others, but for us it really detracted from an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Owner's Response: So sorry you didn't notice the large refrigerator available for your use in the room below the bath! We do mention this in our welcome email, but we will add it to the information inside the cottage, in case you miss it in the email. I'm glad your stay was otherwise satisfying.

Fantastic Getaway, Fully Stocked, for a Romantic Long Weekend or Wedding Celebration Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Lone Fir Cottage this past weekend and it was simply phenomenal for our purposes. Beautiful hot tub, property, and surroundings. Eleanore provides all of the critical details, and the two bedrooms are very quaint and sunlit on a sunny day!

It has a wonderful wood stove in the living room, a very comfy sitting area, an incredible deck with views across the bay and hills, and it's quiet and calm and very relaxing overall. The little kitchen, while simple and small, is very well stocked for its size with a coffeemaker, a microwave, two stove burners and a kettle, and a toaster oven. Plus the cottage has an outdoor gas grill, which was great for our fajita night the first night. I can't say enough for Eleonore as a host, and for the Lone Fir Cottage! Thank you Eleonore!

perfect spot

  • 5 of 5

Lone Fir cottage, perched part way up the Inverness ridge, makes an ideal refuge as well as a good base from which to explore the park and western Marin and Sonoma counties. Set in woods of bay, fir and oak, the cottage is nevertheless full of light and has splendid views across the valley to the hills beyond. The soft call of quail, chatter of jays, and cry of hawks fill the air.

Lone Fir is bright and clean, the bed is wonderfully comfortable, the wood stove is efficient, as is the electric heater. The kitchen, compact and well supplied, works for any level of ambition.

Lone Fir’s ample deck is a good place to take in the misty morning light and forest perfumes or to star gaze at night. Depending on the season, it makes a perfect setting for outdoor meals.

The knowledgeable hosts are considerate thoughtful and considerate.

Weekend away

  • 2 of 5

My partner and I stayed at the cottage for a weekend a few weeks ago. The cottage is very quaint tucked back on a beautiful property. We really loved the views , the nooks and cranies the owners created for a relaxing stay. My favorite was the meadow with daffodils. The only down fall was the cottage was not very clean. The kitchen was a little dirty and had crusty over spill on the burners. So every time I went to cook it smelled. The dishes were not cleaned properly and I had to rewash them before use (this could have been the doing of the people before us). The cloth furniture is so old it smells odd and has greasy arms. Luckily they gave us sheets because we brought our dogs so we could cover them. Otherwise I would feel uncomfortable on the furniture. That being said I think its great we were able to bring our dogs and the bed was comfortable.

Owner's Response: I appreciate the comments of our all guests and immediately checked the issues of concern to this guest. While I could not detect any odor in the love seats, I'll be sending them to be cleaned as soon as we have a small gap between visitors. The copper counter is naturally oxidized - perhaps the guest experienced this as dirty. I've asked my housekeeper to check the dishes after each visitor departs, to make sure they're spotless.
