About Bill Metzger

Bill Metzger is originally from Oklahoma, but has lived in Virginia for the past 35 years. Now semi-retired I love living on the Chesapeake Bay and near the small but charming town of Mathews.

Why Bill Metzger chose Virginia

The house has expansive views from every room in the house. At least 110 years old this house has weathered many storms and hurricanes. It was a working farm. In this area most farmers also were watermen with fishing boats.

The house has been modernized to today's high standards yet continues to maintain it's coastal farm house charm. It has everything a coastal property should have. A quiet slide into the cove for kayaks, boat loading ramp and boathouse that can accommodate two 36' craft.

What makes this house unique

The first time I saw this property, it was love at first sight. Nothing beats the expansive views and when the sun is at a certain angle the water definitely looks blue -- thus, Blue Water Haven.

It is a haven from all the worries of the world. Although if you want to stay in touch with the world we have WiFi and TV's in every room.

A wee bit of heaven!

This was an amazing place to stay. The house and property was meticulously kept. All the amenities were above and beyond expectations. This is the only family vacation that my 2 grandsons did not want to leave. Kudos to the owner and we will be back again.

a one of a kind property

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for a 4 day weekend to celebrate a big wedding anniversary and it was everything we wanted and more... one night we cooked a 7 course dinner for the celebration and the kitchen was very well equipped, including very nice dishes and glasses. We thought that we would spend our days visiting some of the surrounding historical sights, but with the bikes and kayaks and beautiful property, we ended up staying very local and enjoying all that the house and grounds had to offer. And, Bill was very helpful and a delight to talk to. We have rented several properties in the past and this was by far the best equipped! We enjoyed our stay thoroughly, and we will be back!

Owner's Response: Probably the greatest pleasure for the homeowner in offering their property for rental is the satisfaction of learning how much the guests recognize the effort and attention to detail put in by the owner to make their stay more enjoyable. Thank you for your kind words. You and your family were wonderful guests. I hope your parents 50th anniversary turned out as expected. And, I do hope you will be able to make your way back at some point in the future. Bill

A Little Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

My sisters and I, (there's six of us) surprised our mother for her 80th birthday by renting this lovely home. Each of the rooms are beautifully decorated, country charm with a beachy feel. The house was very clean when we arrived and had all the amenities you could ever need, just like if you were at home. The living room, dining room were large enough for us all to set comfortably together and then there were plenty of bedrooms when we wanted some time to ourselves. All the beds were comfortable, everyone said they all slept well. Outside was just as beautiful (just wish we could have seen the sun while we were there). We enjoyed a bike ride one afternoon, a cookout, singing by the fire at night, and it was a beautiful spot to take family pictures. The pool area was beautiful, but the weather didn't cooperate with us on that...too cold! The are is very quite and peaceful. The house is very close to Food Lion and a few restaurants in Matthews. We didn't eat out at all, we just went to the Food Lion bought groceries and pitched in making meals.

Bill met my family when they first arrived and took the time to show everyone around the property. I had to call him that night to let him know that one of the coffee makers didn't work and that we couldn't lock the living room doors, (we weren't doing it correctly), he was very friendly and walked me through locking the door correctly. The next morning he showed up with a coffee maker. We all very much enjoyed meeting Bill and talking with him.

I have stayed a quite a few "Home Away" rentals and this was by far the nicest home I have stayed at, I would defiantly recommend this home to anyone. We all hope to come back again for another visit, so we can use that pool and go kayaking. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay for our celebration. The only thing that would have made it completely perfect was if the sun had of came out! Thanks so much Bill!

Words cannot do this place justice!

  • 5 of 5

I could go on and on about this place, but suffice it to say that this will be one of the best places that you will ever rent. The owner is great, and the place is somewhere that you will remember for the rest of your life. The amenities and activities are outstanding ... you will never want to leave the property during your stay. Everything was as described in the listing. Note that the bedroom with just the one twin bed is separated in the house from all of the other bedrooms (it is over the kitchen).

We loved this house and will be back!

  • 5 of 5

Blue Water Haven is amazing and we wish we had more time to enjoy all that this house has to offer. The kitchen was well stocked with all the little things you may need. Every room was cozy and comfortable with beautiful views of the water. We are all hoping to stay here again in the summer when we will have more time to enjoy this property.
