East Capitol 4 Bedroom House
Great East Capitol house with spectacular view of monument, capitol building and the RFK stadium. The house is newly remodeled and furnished. Everyone who visits the nation’s capital should have an affordable secured and comfortable place to stay.
The house is just few blocks from endless array of shopping, dining, banks and grocery stores. Free internet access, WIFI, cable TV on 60 inches television. Towels, clean bed sheets, full kitchen, utensils, microwave, iron and ironing board. Wash and dryer is available.
Clean house with 4 bedrooms and 4 beds: 1 king size, 2 queen size and 1 full size bed. The house can accommodate about 10 people conveniently.
We do offer a significant discount for monthly stay. We work very hard to keep our nightly rate competitive, cheaper than any hotel and more beautiful than a lot of them.
Metro station is few blocks from the home. Bus stop is about 1 minute from the house. The bus schedule is posted on the wall in the house.
Off street parking is free, it can accommodate about 4 cars. Large and open space for various activities.
This is a place to call your own while you visit Washington DC. Wash and dryer are available.
Straight down to Capitol Hill, on the same street with Capitol building. Overview RFK stadium, Washington Monument and the Capitol building from the bedrooms.
The house was comfortable for 10 people and the owner was helpful and kind. The parking was big enough to fit 3 cars which made us avoid to park on street.
Conveniently located for the purposes of our trip. Based upon the previous reviews I had a general idea of what to expect and, therefore, I don't want to be critical of the property or the neighborhood. However, I have two complaints.
1. The TV in the master bedroom was busted. I informed the owner via text and he replied "I will try to get another TV, it was broken by the last guests." Well, the TV never arrived during our 4 night stay. That was disappointing.
2. We experienced a terrible problem with gnats. Since bug spray was available in the cabinet, I assumed this was an ongoing problem. We took care of the matter ourselves and did not alert the landlord.
I love old homes and this property qualifies as one. It has a ton of character and if were updated and properly maintained, it would certainly be a gem. In its current state, I would not recommend it to friends or family.
I read all the reviews for this home and had some reservations. However, after reading one particular review about this being accepted for what it is, you would be fine. I would echo that review. The property is definitely in a dominant ethnic area, this doesn't bother us and everyone was friendly. Not the best neighborhood but also if you go knowing what you're getting into ahead of time you will be good. There are 3 bedrooms upstairs and 1 in the basement with its own bathroom. The only other bathroom is upstairs with the bedrooms. Therefore on the main floor is the family room with a 50" TV, dining room and TINY kitchen, no bathroom, wasn't thrilled with that but oh well. The 5 of us had a good time with no issues, had private fenced parking for like 4 cars. There was no blender, so we bought one and left it there. For the most part things were fairly clean. The dishes, pots, pans etc I would definitely wash, we scrubbed them clean. If you are looking for the Ritz Carlton, this is not it. BUT it is IN DC, close to metro and shopping. If you are looking for an affordable place to stay long term in DC knowing that it is a decent place to sleep and chill, I would most likely stay again. Thank you
There was a water leak from one of the bathroom in first floor and the living room got flooded with water. We need to clean them quickly and that was bad. Next was power cut. We got stranded for 30 mins. We got the owner on phone after 30 mins and we had to figure the way out.
Next ... Bathroom in first floor is not good for use and we all ended up using single bathroom which delayed all our plans.
Last.. No blender.. I use home away every year.. And this is the first time we faced this issue
To those considering renting this home I would advise this: please keep in mind that it's an older home that has had updates to it (new flooring, lighting, alarm system), but has not been gutted and/or remodeled. If you know this in advance, you won't be expecting the wrong thing. It's not a brand-new condo at the Wyndham, but it is a fully functioning home, with ample parking, only 20 min. drive to the capital mall. I think for my kids, who only remember 2 homes we've owned (one built in '96, another in '07) they felt a little shock at some of the "character" of an older home (i.e. very small kitchen, uneven floors, narrow stairs that creak, 1 bdrm just big enough for the bed, etc.), but they got used to it, and we all enjoyed our stay. Again, if you know what you're renting, you'll be very pleased with this home for your stay in Washington.
Now, if you want further details, here are a few: There were quirky things about the home, but nothing I felt were worthy of complaining about. For example, there was no toaster, but we picked one up at Walmart for $7 (and left it there, so those who come after us- you're welcome). The valve on the upstairs shower was connected backwards, so the "hot" is actually cold, and vice-versa. The gate to the rear parking area was broken/removed when we arrived, leaving us concerned about leaving our luggage trailer parked there all day while we left to explore (it's small enough to roll away/steal by hand), but I removed a wheel and locked it inside so- problem solved in under 10 minutes. There were a lot of light bulbs burned out throughout the house, but it has enough lighting so that it wasn't really an issue. The Safeway grocery store nearby seemed small, rather run-down, and heavily used (I waited 25 min. in line to pay for my groceries), but using the GPS, we found there's a brand new Safeway only 1 mile away that felt like any other grocery store at home. Like I said, all of these were minor quirks, but they were all manageable, and nothing to complain about.
If you can deal with these quirks, what you get is a fully functional 4 bdrm home, only 20 min. from the capitol mall. We drove there every day (parked in the Ronald Reagan building for $23/day) using the surface streets through the capitol hill area/neighborhood, and highly recommend that beautiful drive!
We loved our Stay. Thank You Tunde!
