About Martin Bernhard

My wife and I currently reside in Prospect, Ohio. We have 4 children and 7 grand children. We own a large construction co.and , several other buisnesses as well. We both grew up here and went to Elgin schools in Marion county, Ohio

We love to travel and spend time with our awesome friends and family.

Martin Bernhard purchased this house in 1998

Why Martin Bernhard chose Ohio

Our property has been in our family for many years. I purchased the property from my uncle who owned it for many years. I fell in love with property the first time I saw it. Its joins into the Wayne National Forest. Its beauty is unforgettable. The pure peace and solitude there is something most folks can,t imagine. It was originally used primarily for a hunting cabin, But over the years all our family and friends have used it for many, many occasions and recreational activities.

What makes this house unique

peace and quiet/ lots of wild life

This was a great weekend, it was so quite and peaceful. We spent most of our time at the pond. Very clean and really nice. We really hated to have to leave. It was awesome not having any cell service, the kids truly had a wonderful time. Great memories. We will definitely be back!! Thank you Mike.

We loved our vacation. This was half way for our family. Two sons and family came from Tennessee. We,parents and two more came from Pennsylvania .The guys enjoyed the pond. They enjoyed not having to go anywhere to fish and having to buy a fishing license. It could of used another bathroom. With 9 people it was hard with only one bathroom. They need to put in another bathroom,if only a half bath.We enjoyed the quiet. No cars, train, trucks fire whistle, planes, motor cycles, other people,The down side was to far out on dirt roads. It was a hour to get to a store to buy anything. The property was clean and the owners were friendly and helpful.Yes, the customer service was excellence.Just about everything you needed they provided it.Blankets, pillows, towels, pots, pans ,dishes, silverware, coffee pot, crock pot. What ever we needed they made sure we had it. Could of used a broom to sweep up if you spilled anything. Had a good time.Joyce Lord

Wonderful Cabin/Home away from all the city light

  • 5 of 5

Great Cabin situated out away from the city. Easy to get to and located less than a half an hour from Mconelsville.

This property is extremely immaculate and well kept up. The owners are great and actually met us to show us around the property.

There is a State park near the property Burr Oak where you can fish and hike and there is also a very large fishing pond fully stocked just up the hill from the cabin where I spent most of my time!

All together it is a tremendous property and we will be staying again!

We had a terrific summertime stay!

  • 4 of 5

We had a terrific stay with great weather! This is a really quiet and secluded location with all the comforts of home. McConnelsville was about 20min drive, really wasn't bad if you really needed something a little more food! Pulled 6 really nice bass out of the pond and returned them a bit wiser...try your luck! Didn't really get a chance to try for catfish, but the caretaker said there are some nice ones in waiting. There is a catch and return policy on the fish when we went. There is some ambient lighting from the barn in the front yard where the fire pit is, but if you want to stargaze, the slope up to the pond is perfect. Caretaker had some firewood for us in the front yard, and that worked out great because we had planned on picking some up in town. One slight complaint was that the coffeemaker was acting up on us, I betcha' it's fixed now though. All told, it was a great weekend stay, we plan on making it annually!

During your stay at our beautiful Wilderness retreat you will be in near isolation from the outside world. You will have all the amenities of a luxury hotel but will be not be bothered with the sights and sound of the city. There is many historical sites that can be visited while you stay at our retreat. Some people like to visit the historic twin cities of Malta and Mconnellsville. These two cities are a battle site of the civil war. But most that stay with us will be inclined to just relax on the property. You can swim or fish in our 2 acre fully stocked pond. You can go on long nature walks through the rippling slate bottom creeks. Or you can make a warming campfire in front of the house and sit and make S mores and fire pies until it is time for bed. Ohio is also very well known fory its world renowned white tail deer. We have hunting specials available for all of the hunting seasons. Whether you are chasing the elusive Turkey or the legendary Big white tail Buck than this is the hunting retreat for you, as we have over 45 acres that backs directly into the Wayne National Forest. This cabin is set up for 6-8 people max. Tent camping is allowed. no campers please.
