Charming Garret Apartment
Really enjoyed our stay in this top floor little garret. Amenities are good, and owner is attentive and nice. It leans toward a modernized shabby chic in a way that's pretty typical of older European neighborhoods-- if you like to immerse in local ambience, stay here! Location can't be beat.
Before the flat served as our base over a long weekend, I had a week to enjoy it as a workspace while in Rome on business. Probably I'm too old and baggaged to actually live in a flat this size anymore, but being here sure did make me _dream_ of being thirty again and living in a place just like it. During the cold and rainy days it was cozy enough with sufficient heat, and during the nice days it's open and airy, with double doors to an inner court yard in every room. Really a charming, romantic little place.
Can't say enough about how nice the owner was. During what could have been a nightmare scenario, in which a leaking roof over the neighboring stairwell started water dripping in the apartment, she was immediately available and on top of it, had building maintenance quickly and unobtrusively on the spot. I barely noticed.
Great internet, and a booklet with complete instructions for most things. Only exception was we found the instructions for the washing machine didn't quite get us there-- pro tip: if you plan to use the washing machine, ask carefully beforehand about how to run it;)
There's the option of a 2-person lift rather than 5 flights of stairs, but for the large, elderly, and physically un-flexible, be aware that there are some low-ish ceilings and small shower.
Overall, price perfomance here is excellent. Charming, quirky, it's your place if you really want a Roman getaway! (I'd certainly stay here again.)
The location was amazing. Paola arranged to have someone pick us up at the airport, and drop us off right at the door where someone was waiting for us. She was very friendly and did an amazing job showing us the room, and places to go in Rome for dinner, sights to see. It was perfect for us who have never been to Italy. The ceilings were a little low along the one wall and the shower was small. But those are the only 2 minor negatives on an otherwise amazing stay.
Tanks for your revues. I am glad that you've enjoyed your stay. The photos in the website faithfully represent the apartament and the lower beam only in two particular spots: above the bed pillows and above the couch in the lounge. It shouldn't be a surprise though. Anyway is part of the charming atmosphere of the apartment. For the tourists who had never travel to the old Europe, I would anticipate that we don't have large spaces in our houses and streets. The houses in the city center in all the European capitals such as Rome, Paris, London are located in historical buildings of the past XVIII century or even older as the building in which is located that apartment. At that time spaces were reduced. Therefore you should not expect the large spaces of the coutries of the newer continents.
We loved our location near the Trevi Fountain and MANY other tourist spots. We were able to walk most places and a short bus ride got us to the others. We were steps away from great restaurants, shopping and markets. Paola was very helpful and provided local maps and recommendations for dining. She also arranged transportation to and from the airport which was a GREAT bonus! I would recommend staying here to everyone!
Great location in Rome
Stayed at Paola's for 3 nights prior to taking a 7 day western Mediterranean cruise. While booking the apartment for 2 couples, I requested assistance in arrangeing transportation from the Rome airport to the apartment and from the apartment to the cruise terminal. Paola made the necessary arrangements without hesitation. Her apartment was clean and while small easily accommodated the 4 of us. It is centrally located to the sights we wished to visit and just two blocks from a Hop on Hop off bus! With Paola's generous assistance added to the apartments location we were able to get an overview of Rome and tours of the Vatican and Colisseum in two days. This was our first trip to Rome and when we return we will definitely book through Paola and VRBO.
The apartment was adequate, but not as nice as we expected.
The positive aspects of the apartment were the central location. The fact it had an elevator, washing machine, and enough space for two people. Also, there was a nice size grocery store about a block away. The owner was helpful in coordinating a driver for us. One negative was the really low ceiling, which we knew about, but we still kept hitting our heads on. Another problem was that no one was there when we arrived at the apartment, even though we gave our arrival time several times to the owner and the person who did show up knew nothing about the apartment. The photos looked nicer than the apartment actually was. The floor was irregular and if someone was older it would be a problem. There were 5 keys to get into the apartment, which was a real hassle. The street outside was very crowded with tour groups and tedious to get into the apartment - especially with luggage or being picked up by a cab.
great place to stay
wonderful place to stay. well maintained. great location. wonderful management team to deal with. would love to stay here again
A few steps from the Trevi Fountain, the Trevi Fountain House is within walking distance of many of Rome's most famous sights and surrounded by restaurants and world-class shopping. The apartment is actually located in the most convenient and amazing area of the city, beautiful churches and historical monuments are just at your feet. Walk to the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Capitoline museums, and even the Vatican. Excellent access to metro, taxis, and bus stops, and a well stocked supermarket is around the corner. The area is extremely safe, perfect for an evening stroll after a great meal, delighted by an Italian world famous gelato! Limousine Service: We can prearrange your pick up from both FCO and CIA Rome's airports by a reliable licensed limousine service at a fixed price even if the driver has to wait due to your flight delays or there's traffic on your way.
