$6,000 Summer June 1 - August 31
Within the home, there is a kitchen, dining room, 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, large family room and living room. There are polished hardwood floors throughout and a washer and dryer. The family room is open and airy with views to the fields, whereas the living room (while a large room), feels cozy with its wood burning stove, original walls and the owners’ museum-like collection of natural treasures from the surrounding forests. The second floor of the home features a reading area and skylight-lit studio space filled with an extensive art library. Artwork is featured in every room of the house.
We rented the house for a month so that we could spend a number of long weekends there and it was just perfect for us. It's incredibly comfortable and filled with art. There are many different living room areas, so tons of places to curl up with a good book (and lots of good books on hand to read). There's even a napping bed on the first floor, which we used quite a bit. It would be a great place to go with two couples or two generations of family -- lots of room to spread out and feel privacy (the two main bedrooms are a ways from each other and each has its own full bath).
In the back, there's a huge deck, a beautiful lawn, and a field of wildflowers. It feels very private and bucolic. The kitchen is roomy and well-stocked (though there's a large toaster oven in lieu of an oven so don't plan to do a lot of baking). Nearly every night, we cooked meats and vegetables we had bought at the many farmers markets and farm stands in the area. We usually used the charcoal grill (and range as necessary) and it's some of the best vacation food I've ever had. The owners were great to work with and they provide a comprehensive welcome book with advice about area food shopping, outdoor activities (we went on some lovely hikes) and more. We miss the house but I'm sure we'll be back.
We just returned from what was possible our best family vacation so far.
We stayed at the barn for with another family (4 adults and 4 kids and we had room to spare!!!) and enjoyed every minute.
The property itself is secluded and peaceful and you get the feeling like you are the middle of nowhere, but a few minutes in the car and you have all the things that spoiled New Yorkers like us need to survive... :)
The barn is absolutely beautiful and there are no words to describe the attention that was put into every little detail in the design and architecture of it.
One challenge we had though - the house is full of beautiful (and fragile looking) artwork. Being there with 2 toddlers was nerve wracking to say the least, but we managed to survive the stay with no damages or toddler tantrums!!! :)
The owner / property manager was really helpful in giving us instructions and suggesting many activities in the area for the kids. Although at the end of the day we did not want to leave the property... :)
Sunny days - we enjoyed the front porch or the back porch.
Rainy days - we had lot of fun in the cozy yet spacious living room
cold nights - we sat around the fire while the kids are sleeping off their exhausting day experiences...
Best time ever. we would love to go back again!
