NEWLY REMODELED KITCHEN AND BATHROOMS!
The ocean is a mere 50 feet away from Villa Las Olas, and the views of the sea and the Gulf of Papagayo are worthy of a travel magazine! Our home is located in the Bahia Pez Vela community of 40 privately-owned homes, and is the only development on our safe and beautiful Blue Flag beach.
Our private, jetted pool, Italian stone and wood patio, and 'next to the forest' location (end villa) distinguishes Villa Las Olas for its luxury and its privacy. The pool and patio area were designed by Costa Rican architect Juan Roca and was featured in Su Casa architecture magazine. It is surrounded by beautiful new Costa Rican made Castelle lounges and dining furniture worthy of Roca's setting. We also provide a deep-seating conversation pieces that convert into cushioned lounges for sun seekers and afternoon nappers.
While our home's spacious dimensions provide ample room for larger groups, it is still intimate enough for traveling twosomes. Two of the three generously sized bedrooms are ocean-front, which makes our set-up ideal for two couples or families.
The newly-remodeled and fully-equipped kitchen and the outdoor grill provide options for home-cooked meals and for in-home chef services alike. The full-size washer and dryer are convenient for families and for adults who travel light. Our three light-filled and newly remodeled bathrooms are all ceramic with high-end fixtures and finishes. All furnishings are fresh and tropical, but also practical and child-worthy. Kitchen, bedroom and bath linens are provided, as well as pool towels.
Our home is air-conditioned (mini-splits in each of the bedroom for individual control), but each room has screens and an overhead fan for those who prefer to enjoy the pleasant ocean breezes and sounds of this tropical paradise.
Whale-watching, world class fishing and diving, as well as good old wave bobbing, snorkeling and boogey boarding are available just steps from the pool and patio of our home. The sea provides constant entertainment, be it the delight of seeing silver rays fly out of the water and whales breech or, closer in, watching brown pelicans dive for their lunch. Our kids loved the lively tide pools and making temporary pets of hermit crabs. We enjoy sitting on our patio with our morning Costa Rican coffee, and waiting for the green flash as the evening sun sinks below the horizon.
Our community provides a full array of concierge, business, maid, maintenance, and gardening services, as well as 24/7 security. Our team members are all long-term employees who will make you feel like you are part of the family. Cesar and Jacky are available to help you make arrangements for your Costa Rican adventures. Ziplining, hot springs, wildlife tours and cloud forest visits are popular, but don’t forget the cooking schools, horseback rides, paddle-boarding and poolside massages!
Maracuya Restaurant is a minute's walk away from our home. The highly-skilled and personable team provides mixology and cooking courses, in-home dining services, and in-home chefs for special occasions. Kids can take on the chef and wait staff in afternoon ping pong tournaments, and adults can enjoy the sunset happy hour.
If yours is a working vacation, fear not. FREE WIRELESS BROADBAND is available throughout our home AND the outdoor patio, and cellular service is exceptional. The living room has an enhanced HDR cable service which brings in all the news from home. Business services can be arranged by our concierge staff.

We're a recently-retired couple who visited this property for many years. Now that we have more time to spend in Paradise, we bought and when we are not there ourselves, we are happy to share our home with friends and respectful guests who want to experience a bit of Costa Rica's magic.
LaRaye purchased this House in 2012
Why LaRaye chose Cantón Carrillo
We love the unique serenity and privacy of our home's location within this beautiful Bahia Pez Vela community, and the fact that it is only three miles away from the wonderful grocery stores, fresh markets, restaurants and medical services of the lively beach town known as Coco.
What makes this House unique
We seek to provide exemplary service to our friends and guests. This includes prompt replies to all of your inquiries, a comprehensive "help" document for planning your stay, and furnishing our home as our home -- not just as a rental property -- because it is our home! We are the only development on our beach so the privacy is quite notable -- and our beach has been awarded "Blue Flag" status for our efforts to keep it beautiful! Our community is unique among vacation rentals because we we have full-time staff on site who treat you like family. If something goes wrong, it gets fixed promptly. If you need help navigating this beautiful part of the world, reception can make things happen. If you want extra maid service, just ask.

The ultimate villa, incredible location & superb host!
We have just returned from a 14-day trip to Costa Rica, with 10 days spent at LaRaye's villa. We all agreed that this was the best vacation we have ever had! LaRaye was incredible to work with - the best VRBO host we have used - as she was very prompt in responding to emails/questions & even went above & beyond when we had a family emergency just before our trip & needed her patience while we worked through that. She provided detailed information in both her emails & the documents for the home, including tour info, area info, etc. She also connected us with Cesar, the concierge at Bahia Pez Vela, who also provided top-notch service.
This villa is incredible, spacious & very well-appointed. There is nothing missing in this property. It is decorated in a modern way but with very warm & cozy decor. Of course the best part is the incredible location - absolutely prime spot as it is a corner lot with no neighbours on one side, besides the many species of wildlife (howler monkey, racoons, coatis, iguanas, & so many birds!). Very private, quiet & relaxing. The swimming pool is more impressive than we were expecting as it is large enough & deep enough to properly swim. The pool temperature was perfect every day as well. Looking out across the pool at the beach just steps away - listening to the birds & waves -what more could you want!
The beach is a gorgeous black sand beach. A bit hot to walk on in the heat of day so flip-flops help. Also - a tip is to bring black or older bathing suits if your kids like to play in the sand - my kids each had a "beach designated" bathing suit for this. The snorkelling is really great right next to the rocks by the villa.
The Maracuya restaurant at the resort served delicious dishes & cocktails. A bit on the pricier side but we indulged often despite this. Service was great too & the main pools here were lovely as well.
We appreciated LaRaye's recommendation to spend our first four nights at Borinquen Resort in the mountains near Rincon de la Vieja volcano. It was a picturesque spot & our room was really outstanding, however, we were quite disappointed in the service we received there (but that's for another review).
Tours we did included horseback riding & ziplining, Monteverde Cloud Forest, Nicaragua day trip, and a boat trip right from the villa's beach.
We are so grateful to LaRaye for allowing us to spend this much-needed family holiday together in her beautiful home - thank you for EVERYTHING!
Thank you for taking the time to write this detailed review. Working with you and your dear family was a profound experience for me -- reinforcing the meaning and strength of family through good and hard times, and the role that incidental acquaintances play in making our lives rich. Thanks for sharing photos of the kids in the pool. That truly warmed my heart.
We enjoyed our stay beyond words. There were 7 of us, 4 adults and 3 children (3, 6 and 8). It was just amazing and the villa was perfect. The kitchen was well stocked, plenty of sand toys and blow up toys for the pool. There was a nice selection of movies to choose from (even for the kids). Cesar was also easy to work with and set us up for a last minute boat ride that was fantastic. The kids enjoyed the pool and loved painting themselves with the black sand and chasing hermit crabs after dark! We walked on the beach with flashlights, felt very safe, never any concerns with safety. I also enjoyed a horseback ride on Ocotal Beach with the local Monkey Farm. The grocery stores were nearby and have just about everything. Food at the onsite restaurant was delicious and drinks as well. It was quiet in the community which we also liked. Monkeys came down to the trees above the villa a few times which was neat. LaRaye was wonderful to work with and the information she provides ahead of time was very thorough and helpful. Hope to be back for a longer stay next time! Thank you for sharing your amazing villa!
Paradise, perfectly equipped for a family!
My family of 5 (three young children) stayed here for Spring Break. It was the perfect vacation spot for us, and had all the amenities we needed. The location is breathtaking - it is right on the ocean, with beautiful landscaping and lush green grass separating the villa from the beach and ocean. The combination of the private pool and access to the resort pool and restaurant gave us very few reasons to leave. The house itself is very nicely appointed. The beds are comfortable, bathrooms are beautifully updated, and kitchen had everything we needed to prepare some meals at home for convenience. My kids also appreciated the DVD selection for movie nights! The pack and play and high chair were nice bonuses for our 2 year old.
Prior to our trip, LaRaye provided us with the most helpful information packet that more than prepared us for our trip. We took her advice on things from restaurants to try, buying liquor at airport duty-free shop, activities, preferred pharmacy when we found ourselves with a sick child, and even specific dishes to order from the resort restaurant, and were pleased with her advice every single time. Her level of communication and accommodation before and after our vacation we’re beyond impressive! Additionally, the resort staff (both in reception office and at the pool) went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. When we asked about jet skiing, there was a jet ski in the bay within hours for us to rent. We requested child-sized snorkel gear, and a staff member purchased some so that we could use/rent it. A waiter at the restaurant played pool with our kids one night at dinner so my husband and I could have a few quiet minutes to ourselves.
We did rent a car, which we found useful for trips to the grocery store, different restaurants, and various excursions, but I’m not convinced it was necessary. My understanding is that taxis are relatively inexpensive, so that probably would have been a good option as well.
All in all, we had a fantastic trip. The kids didn’t want to leave, and neither did the parents, and that is always a sign of a great vacation! We cannot wait to go back.
You are welcome back any time! Thank you for recognizing the hard work of our staff. they are like family to us! And thank you for taking the time to write this helpful review. We are grateful.
Wonderful resort villa and perfect hosts!
We've stayed in dozens of VRBOs the past decade and this was one of our best experiences. LaRaye's detailed notes, tips and responsiveness made our first trip to Costa Rica wonderful. The villa was lovely, well equipped and clean. Your private infinity pool and entire resort property were well-maintained and staffed. You are steps to a beautiful black sand beach and the on-site Maracuya restaurant and pools had fabulous food, drinks, staff and atmosphere. We even hiked over the rocks at low tide and enjoyed another beach and restaurantand a couple of times. We took several awesome and memorable excursions away from the property. While Bahia Pez Velia is somewhat remote, we decided not to rent a car and had no trouble getting the resort to arrange transportation or excursions, including a shuttle to and from the airport with a stop for groceries. (You will need breakfast food.) However, we always enjoyed coming back and relaxing at our private and beautiful villa. The most noise was one morning watching the howler monkeys in the trees beside us and getting a massage on the patio overlooking the pool and ocean! We highly recommend this villa. Thank you, LaRaye and staff at Bahia Pez Vela and Maracuya!
Thank you for providing this review! We laughed at your comment about the monkeys. Who would believe that something so small could riar so loudly? Your family is welcome back any time!
Everything was perfect!
We were excited to spend a week at this resort but found out that the photos just don't do justice to this exotic and beautiful villa. Everything from the infinity pool to the chef's kitchen is over the top splendid. The beach and tide pools are perfect for walking but honestly it was difficult to leave the villa for anything. The daily line up of colorful birds visiting the pool for a drink or a bath, or the howler monkeys eating leaves in the trees out front meant we could just sit outside and let the wildlife come to us.
We used Cesar at the resort office to book several side trips including fishing; this could not have been easier since the boat picks you up right from the beach. They cleaned our catch and we grilled it that night!
Nothing needs to be improved here. The resort is lushly landscaped. The food at Mayacama is fabulous. We got to know all the staff very well and took Angela's Myxology class. She infuses her own liquor and gave us multiple recipes and tips for her newest cocktail creations.
Playa Del Coco is interesting for its laid-back style and easy going citizens. It has a fabulous grocery store equalling any in the states so we cooked our own meals often. The pineapple in this part of the world is the best!!
We highly recommend this villa and this resort as well as northern Costa Rico in general . Lorraine's extensive manual which we got before we arrived is so complete we had no questions once we moved in. We started the enjoyment as soon as we unpacked. We will be back for sure.
I am sooo happy that you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for taking the time to share this infirmative review. You are welcome back anytime!
Perfect piece of paradise!
This was pure heaven, with comfort, beauty, convenience, and cleanliness. I loved the pool, & couldn’t believe my luck at being able to watch a howler monkey family several days from the pool!
The villa is spacious & gorgeous. The kitchen is a dream, just wish there was a closer grocery. LaRaye is great to work with, & her info beforehand was very helpful. Very nice staff and other guests.
We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for your kind review -- and I will extend thanks to staff and to the howlers, as well!
This is a secluded and very secure development of only 40 homes. Ours is the only development on a very private ebony beach provides world class snorkeling, calm waters for swimming, and fascinating tide pools that are full of sea life. The grounds are immaculate and feature a large grassy lawn between the villa and the beach, beautifully maintained blooming shrubs and flowers, and mature trees. The wildlife is abundant -- howler monkeys frequently munch the leaves from the trees in front of the villa, green parakeets chatter as they dart from one tree to another, blue green mot mots show off frequently, and the occasional blue jay, iguana and gecko can be spotted. If you can tear yourself away from the beach and your private pool, the nearby town of Coco is lively, fun and safe. Golf at Vista Ridge Golf in Sardinal, or go a bit further to Hacienda Pinillas or the Four Seasons. Spend a half-day deep sea fishing and bring yellow fin tuna, grouper and snapper home to the chef at the property's on-site restaurant for special treatment. Great diving can be arranged by our reception team, as can sail boat and catamaran adventures. Venture inland to Volcan Arenal or Rincon de la Vieja and take in ziplines, volcanic mud baths and hot springs, white water rafting and horseback rides in the high country. Drive the 'Monkey Trail' to beaches to the south, including Ostional for early morning turtle hatching or Avellana and Negra for their surfing. All this within 25 minutes of the airport!
