Allen and Rhonda are semi-retired and live nearby within the community. Rhonda is artsy and creative. Allen loves to fish and ride his Harley. Both are very involved and active their local church and both love to make music and enjoy serving people.
Allen/Rhonda Sanders purchased this cabin in 2012
We have lived on Lake Hawkins for over 10 years in a fabulous log home and my neighbor decided to sell her little weekend place. So with a little TLC and my wife's creativity, we fashioned this great little cottage into something that looks like it belongs on a Montana river or off the coast of Maine. Its pitched ceiling, exposed beams and a tastefully-decorated fishing motif, just feels like you're miles from everything.
The only problem that we had was a stray dog. We go to the lake to enjoy the lake and have coffee on the porch or on the water in the morning(so peaceful). The dog was a sweet dog and not aggressive, but i couldn't enjoy my coffee in order to keep him off my wife.
I have been visiting Lake Hawkins for several years but this was my first stay on the Lake. The moment I walked into the Cottage, I felt relaxed and at home. The Cottage was everything as described and more. It’s very clean, fully furnished, and decorated with lots of nice homey touches. Rhonda is a great decorator.
The front porch is wonderful, very relaxing, and a facing lake view. There is a bird feeder at the end of the porch and they provide food for the birds and squirrels. I got to see my first Chipmunk in the wild. I had seen them on cartoons before. There are also two hummingbird feeders.
The dock is very large and has a screened in sitting area. The bench swing on the dock was very relaxing to enjoy watching the sunrise, lake, ducks, fish and turtles.
I have always enjoyed visiting Lake Hawkins, this vacation at the Cottage was one of my most fun and relaxing vacations I’ve ever had and we will be returning soon?
I had the pleasure to meet and spend some time getting to know Allen and Rhonda, they are wonderful and sincere people. They were very attentive to our every need.
Thank you - Allen and Rhonda!
Cottage One is a lovely cabin for up to four people. It is well furnished with everything needed for a nice relaxing visit.
The owners were very accessible from inquiry about the propriety, all through the visit and even on the day of departure still seemed genuinely intent on us relaxing and enjoying our stay. They responded quickly to messages and answered all of my questions.
The view from the front porch is wonderful whether enjoying the lake or watching the birds and squirrels. The dock allocated for the cottage provided a screened in sitting area as well as a very nice bench swing for fishing or just enjoying the lake.
One only needed to bring food and beverage; all dishes and cookware were available as well as linens and supplies. The DVD library was a nice touch in addition to cards and books.
The property is well maintained and I can comfortably recommend this to others seeking a nice get away.
Cottage was really clean and prepared. Looks "much better" than the pictures on the site which rarely happens. Allen and Rhonda work hard to keep up with all maintenance, are very gracious hosts and accommodating. Went to relax and just do a little fishing off the dock, so this fit the bill perfectly. We might peruse the pontoon rental next time around to explore this beautiful little lake. Hummingbirds, cardinals, tall trees, gentle breeze, all make for a great experience. I would highly recommend, and will book again myself. One of the best deals on the site and a short easy drive from the DFW area. See you next time around....
Very nice, clean and updated house. Very spacious for a 1 bedroom and had a great layout. Loved the screened-in cabana right on the lake! We enjoyed our stay and will be back.
We enjoyed our four days on the lake, and this cottage was the perfect place to stay. It was clean, well designed and furnished, and has great views of the lake. We spent most evenings at the cabana watching the light on the water, the egrets making their way to their nests for the night, and sometimes a heron. The location is close to Hawkins for necessities and convenient to Tyler if you want to shop or see the sights. We liked the nearby Italian restaurant and the restaurant in town. We plan to be back.
Caldwell Zoo and Discovery Place in Tyler (25 mi), winery with live jazz on weekends, great antiquing, Good restaurants and grocery shopping.
