Wonderful retreat in the Napa Hills

  • 5 of 5

Only 15 min. drive outside of Napa but what a wonderful quiet retreat after a full day on the wine routes.

Just loved it. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms roomy - kitchen fully equipped. Hosts are very friendly and price is more reasonable for 3 BR place in Napa Valley. Also they have 3 horses to pet and a friendly dog who would gladly accompany you on walks through the gorgeous hillside.

It is quite a scenic drive to the tranquil chalet. It was clean and a pleasant place to relax and unwind. All of my fellow guests enjoyed their stay as well.

Charming property and charming owners

  • 5 of 5

The Cabin was idyllic and literally at the end of the road up the mountain, tucked away from Napa. Our neighbours (the ones we actually saw) included horses, rabbits, deer, skunks and snakes - and for the latter categories we kept a respectable distance away from each other! There are also wild pigs, and mountain lions around, but we didn't see them.

Trails at the back of the cabin rose to the ridge top and gave commanding views right up Napa valley and down to the coastal plane as far as the Golden Gate bridge. The property itself was spotlessly clean, fully equipped and very comfortable (the beds were especially good). Our only constructive criticism would be to suggest some more dresser/closet furniture in the master b/room. The owners, with whom it was a pleasure to deal were kind, attentive, and interested in making sure we appreciated all that there was to see and do on their grounds and in the region generally. We would recommend, and indeed have already recommended this vacation rental to friends and relatives.

We were a family of five with youngsters ranging from 19 to 2. The grounds of the estate with walks and widlife would appeal to nearly all ages, but luckily we had some assistance with the more junior members from local relatives. Nevertheless as wine tasting tours go, Sterling (near Calistoga) is a good family option due to the cable car ride to the winery on top of a hill and for us adults alone, the Calistoga couples mudbath was a hoot: not sure my joints felt that much better for it, but it was fun and relaxing. Nearer to home we enjoyed the Oxbow market in Napa with the Model bakery, Ritual coffee and fabulous fruit, cheese and meat vendors to sell all the ingredients for a great picnic to take off for a day away. All told, we had a lovely time and were sad to come home.

Final word for the rookie traveller to the region and this high up location particularly - watch out for big swings in temperature in summer (85 degree fahrenheit highs down to 50 at night) - great for the grapes apparently, but pack some fleeces and warm stuff as well as the shorts and t shirts!

We will all come back for sure!! Fantastic place!

Rick and Edna were extremely accommodating. This was my first trip to Napa and we had a fantastic time at their ranch in the country. It was a different experience from LA for sure but we absolutely loved being away from town and in nature. Once we found our way around it was only 15 minutes to downtown Napa, which was convenient as well. The house is so quaint and charmingly decorated. But has ultra modern bathrooms and a nice kitchen which we used 3 times. (Couldn't find a cookie sheet for biscuits, but they have everything else we could possibly want) The property is large and there are horses and dogs to play with too. We had breakfast with Juno one morning and she happily sat at our feet and soaked up the attention. Every person on our trip (there were 5 girls up in Napa for a Bachelorette party) said they would like to come back and bring their husbands/boyfriends/family. It was amazing. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us! We will be back!!

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

we had the prviledge of staying in the chalet this past week and it was a pure joy. Close enough to the Napa Valley for easy access to the wine region the chalet felt a million miles away. It was peaceful and looked out over a quiet valley and lake Madegen. The house itself is spacious with a large master bederoom with kink sized bed, lovely bathrooms, 2 more bedrooms and a wonderful kitchen to cook in. We highly recommend bring a bottle of wine to the deck and just enjoy the evenings. Rick and Edna were wonderful hosts. thank you for having us there
