Overview

California House Rental Photos and Description

6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms + detach cottage (Total sleeps 12)

Amidst the rolling hills and dramatic Sierra Foothills, this spacious turn-of-the-century 4,100 sq ft home on five rustic acres is within walking distance from Folsom Lake. Located in Newcastle, California this historical home has a classic veranda with swings and rocking chairs.

Enjoy the working fruit orchard with over 200 trees with multiple varieties of almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, persimmon, plum and tangerine.

Enjoy as well the refreshing swimming pool with outdoor shower, tennis court, basketball court, ping pong table, tetherball, horseshoes, cornhole and plenty of bicycles. There's a separate pool house with pool toys, his/her changing areas and a bathroom.

The property sleeps 11-12 comfortably (4 bedrooms in the main house and a guest cottage). The air-conditioned home is decorated in a charming European style with plenty of comfortable reading nooks and quiet spaces along with five fireplaces (non-working). Enjoy the billiard room complete with vintage pool table and plenty of kid's games. Bike to downtown Folsom or old town Auburn and experience gold rush history along with fine dining, antique shops and boutiques. Nearby, there are horse stables, riding trails, wineries, golf courses, whitewater rafting, water-skiing, canoeing, fishing, camping and kayaking . We also have a new standing paddle board that is perfect for Folsom Lake. Tahoe ski resorts are an easy drive. A caretaker couple live on the property.

Our family and siblings lives in Southern & Northern California. We have been coming to 'The Ranch' since we were kids and my father came when he was little. Once you have experienced the rustic charm, you will see how special the place is and will want to come back again. The ranch is a place where time stops. It's like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting.

This home was passed down from our grandfather and has been in our family for four generations. It has some amazing memories and is a great place to relax and get away from the busy activities of daily life. Much of the furniture is over 100 years old and the home has a timeless elegance. It is only a couple hours from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe so is centrally located.

In the main house we have four bedrooms, three bathrooms ; the Master bedroom has a King bed and the other three bedrooms have one set of twin beds each for a total of seven beds. Two of the bedrooms are adjoining and share a bath, the Master and the back bedrooms have their own full bath.

We have five adult sleeping bags, four child’s sleeping bags and two full size air mattresses, two twin air mattresses plus blankets and pillows for everything.

The bungalow, or 'Honeymoon Cottage' as it’s called, has a bedroom with a king size bed and a sitting room with two pull-out sofas with a single bed in each. It has a small bathroom with shower but no kitchen.

The area has beautiful rolling hills for running or biking. There are a few golf courses close by and you are 10 minutes from Folsom Lake.

We have a full regulation tennis court, with an informal half basketball court, ping pong table and horseshoe pit. We have regulation horseshoes and plastic ones for the kids. If you are serious about tennis or table tennis, you may want to bring your personal rackets or paddles, although we do have older ones.

The large swimming pool has a ‘springy’ diving board and is sparkling clean and inviting. We have pool towels, a blow-up toddler pool for the little ones, some pool toys and floats, including some child friendly flotation devices but you may want to bring any favorite water toys and plenty of sun screen lotion.

We have a number of other things here you may enjoy including everyone’s favorite, the orchard, which has nearly every variety of fruit available; all kinds of citrus as well as many varieties of almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, persimmon, plum, tangerine and more! While here, you'll never have to buy fruit at the store. You and your family can pick your own fresh fruit off the tree. You can even take a box home with you. In the summer, you can pick fresh blackberries to your heart's delight. Perfect for blackberry pie. Folsom Lake is only a few minutes from the Ranch and you can rent horses and boats. We can help with that and there are a number of interesting local attractions, restaurants etc. we can recommend.

Note we do not do any weddings or large events.

Perfect place for a family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

What a great find! Our family spent 4 days at Green Hill Ranch enjoying a family vacation. The house and grounds are beautiful and spacious. Our group of 10 - including four active kids ranging in age from 8 to 10 - had plenty of space to spread out. The turn-of-the century house is beautiful and comfortable. The pool, tennis court, ping pong table, and pool table room were big hits. A pool house stocked with pool toys and towels meant that the kids (especially) spent many hours in the water. The orchard is a bonus! Imagine being able to wander among fruit trees and pick fresh peaches, plums, and pluots at any time. The property is an easy drive to great hiking with views and swimming the reward.

Stephanie, the new caretaker, was as helpful and pleasant as could be. She oriented us to the property and made sure we knew we could contact her at any time. At the end of the trip, before we even realized we had left an item behind, she contacted us.

Highly recommended! Thanks so much for sharing this special home with us.

Absolutely amazing home for family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed in this home for 5 days and had the most amazing and memorable vacation. There were 17 of us (including 2 toddlers) and everyone was very comfortable. Everything we could imagine was provided. The house is large with lots of room, and there is something for everyone of every age to do. A group could be playing billiards while another group is in the game room playing cards, while others are out on the front lawn playing tether ball and croquet. The swimming pool is large and the owner provides all of the pool toys, beach towels, tables with umbrellas, and lounge chairs--and even a blow up wading pool for the toddlers. Our family had some great pool volley ball tournaments, and we enjoyed several evening tennis matches on the fenced in tennis court. If we weren't at the pool or tennis court, we often congregated on the huge front porch where we relaxed and enjoyed our BBQ dinners while the kids ran and played on the front lawn, and we always had the option of participating in a ping pong challenge. I could go on and on about how much we loved this home--we were sad to leave at the end of our vacation, but look forward to a time when we can go again. The owner of this home is very nice and was very responsive to my questions and emails. He was exceptionally easy to work with. The caretaker met us when we arrived and gave us a tour of the home. She made it a point to get to know each of our family members so she could ensure that their needs were met and everyone was comfortable, while not intruding on our privacy. She went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed to have an outstanding vacation. I highly recommend this property for the perfect get away!

Family Birthday

  • 5 of 5

This home was the "home of my dreams": a step back in time yet with all the amenities to be convenient. We usually travel "on a plane" to get to a vacation destination but we only had to travel two hours by car to get to this lovely country ranch. The reservation process with Anthony was streamlined and he was always available by phone should the need arise. The new property caretaker, Stephanie, was the best we have dealt with in the many rentals we have had over the years. We plan on coming back and recommending Green Hill Ranch to family and friends. A truly delightful vacation which we will never forget. I will now end this so I can go enjoy a piece of fruit we brought home from the orchard - yum!!

Great property with old time charm.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the property and its central location to our daughters wedding venue. The grounds are beautiful and the home is fully stocked with bikes, games and outdoor and indoor activities.

Ping pong was a big hit. The care taker mentioned cleaning out the pantry and the cabinets which is always a great idea when you are located in a rural area.

Definitely a great place for active families.

Beautiful property! Comfortable and great for a large group.

  • 5 of 5

We brought a group of 13 people for 5 days. The experience could not have been better! The caretaker is onsite, but never gets in the way. The house is beautiful and offers everything you need for a vacation for a large group. The owner was gracious and easy to deal with. I highly recommend this beautiful turn of the century home!

Gorgeous house!

We had a great time in this Ranch!

In the past Christmas and new year holiday season, four families got together in this Ranch for three days, and we had a really great time and everyone liked this home. This 110 years old home sounds old, but when we got/stayed inside of it, the feeling was supper good: warm, elegant, old fashion beauty ...Following are the best we like:

1) A lot of rooms/space: a library, a media room, a huge play room, a large formal dining room.... Off course, a lot of bedrooms.

2) The huge play room that is fun for both kids and adults.

3) The orchard that was well maintained. It is such beautiful that we took hundreds photos in/with it. The best of the best is the in-season fruits: beautiful, great tastes, plutall we we can eat, even we can bring back some to share it with our friends.

The communications with owner were very smooth and easy. How could make this Ranch be even better? Maybe, adding an additional restroom inside or outside of house would be more convenient for a large group like 16 of us.
