About the property

6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms + detach cottage (Total sleeps 12)

Amidst the rolling hills and dramatic Sierra Foothills, this spacious turn-of-the-century 4,100 sq ft home on five rustic acres is within walking distance from Folsom Lake. Located in Newcastle, California this historical home has a classic veranda with swings and rocking chairs.

Enjoy the working fruit orchard with over 200 trees with multiple varieties of almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, persimmon, plum and tangerine.

Enjoy as well the refreshing swimming pool with outdoor shower, tennis court, basketball court, ping pong table, tether ball, horseshoes, cornhole and plenty of bicycles. There's a separate pool house with pool toys, his/her changing areas and a bathroom.

The property sleeps 11-12 comfortably (4 bedrooms in the main house and a guest cottage). The air-conditioned home is decorated in a charming European style with plenty of comfortable reading nooks and quiet spaces along with five fireplaces (non-working). Enjoy the billiard room complete with vintage pool table and plenty of kid's games. Bike to downtown Folsom or old town Auburn and experience gold rush history along with fine dining, antique shops and boutiques. Nearby, there are horse stables, riding trails, wineries, golf courses, whitewater rafting, water-skiing, canoeing, fishing, camping and kayaking . We also have a new standing paddle board that is perfect for Folsom Lake. Tahoe ski resorts are an easy drive. A Property Manager couple live on the property.

Our family and siblings lives in Southern & Northern California. We have been coming to 'The Ranch' since we were kids and my father came when he was little. Once you have experienced the rustic charm, you will see how special the place is and will want to come back again. The ranch is a place where time stops. It's like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting.

This home was passed down from our grandfather and has been in our family for four generations. It has some amazing memories and is a great place to relax and get away from the busy activities of daily life. Much of the furniture is over 100 years old and the home has a timeless elegance. It is only a couple hours from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe so is centrally located.

In the main house we have four bedrooms, three bathrooms ; the Master bedroom has a King bed and the other three bedrooms have one set of twin beds each for a total of seven beds. Two of the bedrooms are adjoining and share a bath, the Master and the back bedrooms have their own full bath.

We have five adult sleeping bags, four child’s sleeping bags and two full size air mattresses, two twin air mattresses plus blankets and pillows for everything.

The bungalow, or 'Honeymoon Cottage' as it’s called, has a bedroom with a king size bed and a sitting room with two pull-out sofas with a single bed in each. It has a small bathroom with shower but no kitchen.

The area has beautiful rolling hills for running or biking. There are a few golf courses close by and you are 10 minutes from Folsom Lake.

We have a full regulation tennis court, with an informal half basketball court, ping pong table and horseshoe pit. We have regulation horseshoes and plastic ones for the kids. If you are serious about tennis or table tennis, you may want to bring your personal rackets or paddles, although we do have older ones.

The large swimming pool has a ‘springy’ diving board and is sparkling clean and inviting. We have pool towels, a blow-up toddler pool for the little ones, some pool toys and floats, including some child friendly flotation devices but you may want to bring any favorite water toys and plenty of sun screen lotion.

We have a number of other things here you may enjoy including everyone’s favorite, the orchard, which has nearly every variety of fruit available; all kinds of citrus as well as many varieties of almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, persimmon, plum, tangerine and more! While here, you'll never have to buy fruit at the store. You and your family can pick your own fresh fruit off the tree. You can even take a box home with you. In the summer, you can pick fresh blackberries to your heart's delight. Perfect for blackberry pie. Folsom Lake is only a few minutes from the Ranch and you can rent horses and boats. We can help with that and there are a number of interesting local attractions, restaurants etc. we can recommend.

Note we do not do any weddings or large events.

Amazing Retreat for the Father of the Bride’s Family

  • 5 of 5

My daughter planned her wedding for mid-October in Grass Valley and I was looking for a relaxing quiet get-away to treat my relatives who were arriving from all across the country. This place really has it all. It is like stepping back in time to a slower, quieter era. The decor sets the stage with so many authentic antiques, artifacts and pictures of the history of the house.

The grounds and garage are packed with sports equipment, bicycles and activities. Although we were all adults, we definitely acted much younger than our ages - taking advantage of the tennis court, basketball court, billiards table, ping pong table, horse shoe pit, fire pit, bicycles and croquet set. And the pool! I have some serious swimmers in my family and was a little worried the pool may be to short (it’s about 18 yards long), but we worked out daily and it was one of the highlights to be able to get in a relaxing swim or fairly strenuous workout. My sister swam for a full hour every day!

The on-site caretakers, Stephanie and her family, make this place so warm and welcoming. She gave a great informational welcome tour and then stepped back and gave us complete privacy, but was always available if we needed her. She provided fresh eggs from her chickens that were wonderful and the kitchen is well-stocked with most everything needed for a large group.

After the wedding, the bride and groom visited for one night and stayed in the “Honeymoon Cottage” and raved about how quaint and comfortable it was.

Everyone had a great time and was wondering about the next family event that we may be back for. All in all, it was the perfect place for this event.

Amazing Property and Service

  • 5 of 5

The ranch is an amazing place. The house takes you to a different century. The grounds are beautiful and provide tons of activities. The caretaker is helpful and completely unintrusive (is that not a word?) We had a large group and it was plenty of space. We will be back for sure.

Absolute dream property, best in the west!

  • 5 of 5

Every year my extended family gets together for a big vacation. We come from all over the country so we mix it up every year and stay in different states. In the five years we've been doing this, this particular property is hands down the best we've ever stayed at.

There was 9 of us total, including 3 young kids, and there was plenty of spaces for us to all be together. And likewise there was plenty of room for all of us to have our own space whenever we needed. From the numerous bedrooms/sitting rooms/game room to the entirely separate guest cottage, to the tennis court or the pool or the fire pit, or swings, etc. etc., everyone was able to find their own way to relax. Not to mention an entire orchard, with stunning views and, at least for our visit in August, fresh plums, nectarines and peaches.

You can tell the house and property has been loved and enjoyed by the owners for many generations. Its great to see their pictures in the hall and their name on all the fruit-crate labels hanging in the kitchen. There's a loving history to the property that comes through in every room, every decoration, every piece of art. We all felt absolutely comfortable and at home.

And I can't say enough about the grounds and the recreational activities. The tiny garage is packed with sports equipment that can all be used in the yard or on the huge tennis/basketball court. We played tennis, rode bikes, played cornhole, basketball, tetherball, horseshoes daily. The kids were never bored. And the pool house is stocked with everything you could possibly need for a pool.

We thought after a few days we'd venture out to explore the area. Go hiking, check out some of the old mining towns, maybe even head into Sacramento. But we ended up staying put (except for food and wine runs)! We didn't want to leave paradise!

But the absolute best thing about the property was the on-site caretaker Stephanie and her family. I admit I was concerned at first learning that caretakers would be on-site. Living in Brooklyn surrounded by people, I always cherish absolute privacy with my family while on vacation. But Stephanie and family were totally unobtrusive and ultimately incredibly helpful and wonderful to have around. Offering fresh eggs from the chickens and resetting the pool and fire pit area every night, we really came to enjoy and appreciate them!

The property is positively magical, we would definitely return. Thank you Stephanie, and thank you Marguleas family!

We keep coming back!

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd visit to the Ranch and it just keeps getting better. This year we got a heat wave and spent the whole weekend at the pool. The new addition of Stephanie's chickens meant we had fresh eggs for breakfast, what a treat. The peaches were in season and tasted like summer. The big pillow pool toy was a hit. We all left happy as can be and can't wait to come back again next year.

Never get bored!

  • 5 of 5

We took 4 families with adults and kids up to this house Mid August and it was wonderful! Stephanie, the property manager was very helpful and friendly. We swam, played corn hole, tether ball, croquet, picked fruit, played pool and board games, made a fire in the fire pit and had smores, rode bikes, and even just sat on the porch and enjoyed the view. Plenty to do for kids and adults of all ages. We will definitely be back again! Thanks!

Spectacular house, pool, tennis court and fruit orchard!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent the last week in July 2017 at Green Hill Ranch with our two children, their spouses and our four grandchildren (ages 11, 10, and two 7 year olds). This was our second time at Green Hill Ranch and we all loved our return visit as much as our first. The place has everything you might want on vacation -- beautiful, comfortable house, terrific pool, lighted tennis court and a wonderful fruit orchard with delicious peaches, plums, pluots and more. In addition to enjoying everything on the premises, our family went white water rafting (a very big hit) and fishing (catching 14 salmon that we all had for dinner). When our stay ended, our grandkids all raved about the visit and wished they could stay for 3 weeks. We can't wait for our next visit. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
