Overview

About the property

6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms + detach cottage (Total sleeps 12)

Amidst the rolling hills and dramatic Sierra Foothills, this spacious turn-of-the-century 4,100 sq ft home on five rustic acres is within walking distance from Folsom Lake. Located in Newcastle, California this historical home has a classic veranda with swings and rocking chairs.

Enjoy the working fruit orchard with over 200 trees with multiple varieties of almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, persimmon, plum and tangerine.

Enjoy as well the refreshing swimming pool with outdoor shower, tennis court, basketball court, ping pong table, tether ball, horseshoes, cornhole and plenty of bicycles. There's a separate pool house with pool toys, his/her changing areas and a bathroom.

The property sleeps 11-12 comfortably (4 bedrooms in the main house and a guest cottage). The air-conditioned home is decorated in a charming European style with plenty of comfortable reading nooks and quiet spaces along with five fireplaces (non-working). Enjoy the billiard room complete with vintage pool table and plenty of kid's games. Bike to downtown Folsom or old town Auburn and experience gold rush history along with fine dining, antique shops and boutiques. Nearby, there are horse stables, riding trails, wineries, golf courses, whitewater rafting, water-skiing, canoeing, fishing, camping and kayaking . We also have a new standing paddle board that is perfect for Folsom Lake. Tahoe ski resorts are an easy drive. A Property Manager couple live on the property.

Our family and siblings lives in Southern & Northern California. We have been coming to 'The Ranch' since we were kids and my father came when he was little. Once you have experienced the rustic charm, you will see how special the place is and will want to come back again. The ranch is a place where time stops. It's like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting.

This home was passed down from our grandfather and has been in our family for four generations. It has some amazing memories and is a great place to relax and get away from the busy activities of daily life. Much of the furniture is over 100 years old and the home has a timeless elegance. It is only a couple hours from San Francisco and Lake Tahoe so is centrally located.

In the main house we have four bedrooms, three bathrooms ; the Master bedroom has a King bed and the other three bedrooms have one set of twin beds each for a total of seven beds. Two of the bedrooms are adjoining and share a bath, the Master and the back bedrooms have their own full bath.

We have five adult sleeping bags, four child’s sleeping bags and two full size air mattresses, two twin air mattresses plus blankets and pillows for everything.

The bungalow, or 'Honeymoon Cottage' as it’s called, has a bedroom with a king size bed and a sitting room with two pull-out sofas with a single bed in each. It has a small bathroom with shower but no kitchen.

The area has beautiful rolling hills for running or biking. There are a few golf courses close by and you are 10 minutes from Folsom Lake.

We have a full regulation tennis court, with an informal half basketball court, ping pong table and horseshoe pit. We have regulation horseshoes and plastic ones for the kids. If you are serious about tennis or table tennis, you may want to bring your personal rackets or paddles, although we do have older ones.

The large swimming pool has a ‘springy’ diving board and is sparkling clean and inviting. We have pool towels, a blow-up toddler pool for the little ones, some pool toys and floats, including some child friendly flotation devices but you may want to bring any favorite water toys and plenty of sun screen lotion.

We have a number of other things here you may enjoy including everyone’s favorite, the orchard, which has nearly every variety of fruit available; all kinds of citrus as well as many varieties of almond, apple, apricot, cherry, grapefruit, lemon, lime, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, persimmon, plum, tangerine and more! While here, you'll never have to buy fruit at the store. You and your family can pick your own fresh fruit off the tree. You can even take a box home with you. In the summer, you can pick fresh blackberries to your heart's delight. Perfect for blackberry pie. Folsom Lake is only a few minutes from the Ranch and you can rent horses and boats. We can help with that and there are a number of interesting local attractions, restaurants etc. we can recommend.

Note we do not do any weddings or large events.

I’ve constructed a regulation ‘pit’ near the tennis court. We have soft plastic shoes for kids and regulation weight metal ones for adults. We also have push scooters, skateboards, wagons, 8 kids’ bikes of varying sizes from ‘Monkey’ to 20 inch, six adult bikes, both mountain and 10 speed, plus a double jogging stroller. We have a fire pit/campfire near the porch that is always a big hit for evening relaxation and marshmallows or smores.’ We also have a large gas BBQ in the front yard. The orchard has over 200 trees, so we have fruit to pick almost year-round. Plus the surrounding country invites wonderful nature walks!

A Ranch that is more like an all inclusive family resort.

  • 5 of 5

WOW!! We rented the ranch as a gathering place for family and friends before our daughters wedding. It is really like an all inclusive resort inside and out. Extremely well maintained, lots to do for children and adults, very comfortable and plenty of space to be together or go off when needing some quiet time. Very clean with all needed linens, kitchen items and extras if needed. We had originally planned on going out to dinner but no one could tear themselves away from the pool or porch and we grilled both nights instead. The description and pictures are accurate. No one wanted to leave! Highly recommended!,, Stephanie, the caretaker was lovely and helpful and not at all intrusive, also fun to be with. This ranch is worth every penny and you will be assured of a great time and comfortable vacation.

Charming!

  • 5 of 5

Our visit will be a wonderful memory for our family. 4 generations gathered together. The property has activities for all, tennis, basketball, swim, fire pit.

The front porch was our place to gather and where ever I lay my eye there were cousins playing, visiting with grandmother and picking fruit.

The house is very spacious, more so than I anticipated. The poolroom is a great place for some friendly competition. Every room is unique.

The caretakers, Stephanie and Don are gracious and quick to respond. One of the AC units "died" temp outside was over 105. Don ran into town and came back with a condenser and like magic we had AC again.

We plan to visit again!

Had a Fantastic Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

The property was wonderful. My family had everything they needed - it was so hot and everyone had fun in the pool - lots of pool toys and beach towels. Love sitting outside by the fire pit and on the great porch. Lots of chairs, huge dining table - everything we needed in the kitchen - The pool table room was so fun. The house was air conditioned, so it was wonderful to sleep in a cool house. I can't say enough. I wish I were still there right now. Stephanie and Don were great hosts. Everyone wants to definitely go back there next year!

Excellent House for a Tennis Team to stay at!!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place for my tennis team to stay while we were playing NorCal sectionals at the nearby Gold River Racquet club. We used the tennis court for practice and warmups, swam, BBQed, played pool, played ping-pong and everybody really had a great time!

We watched some of the Warriors finals and French open tennis.

DirecTV is available with all the channels.

The property managers, Stephanie and Don, were awesome and very, very helpful and they provided us fresh eggs from their chicken coop.

The house has several coffee makers including a Keurig and many K cups were provided.

My only honest property suggestion that I have is about the TV in the front sitting room. It’s very old and doesn’t show HD properly from the DirecTV system.

I felt that the $300 cleaning fee for 3 nights was high, especially since I emptied all of the garbage cans, and cleaned everything to way we found it before departing as per the written instructions. All that was needed for the $300 was the towels and linens
