Lake Fontana is located in the far reaches of Western North Carolina in the majestic beautiful Great Smoky Mountains of the southern Appalachians.
This region is home to some of the highest and most remote mountains east of the Mississippi with elevations ranging from 1177 to 5560 feet. Fontana is nestled among hundreds of thousand of acres of wilderness full of stunning mountain landscapes and many memorable breathtaking views.
Our floating lakehouse has a breathtaking view of the lake and mountains. The sunset is AWESOME!
The house has 16 ft cathedral ceilings that are black walnut tongue and groove paneling. The loft is done in wormy red oak paneling. The bedrooms are done in all cypress tounge and grove paneling. The fully equipped kitchen is all hickory cabinets. A beautiful home for the perfect vacation.
We offer shuttle service to and from Oros Landing to the floating lakehouse. Upon arrival a pontoon boat is available. With less than a five night stay the pontoon is an additional 125 a day which is collected upon arrival. We ask that you replace fuel used. You are welcome to bring your own boat if so desired.
Fishing guide is available upon request at an additional cost.
Lake Fontana is a wonderful place for the adventurer, sportsman, outdoors man or just to get away and relax. Experience of a lifetime!!! Gather up all your fishing buddies or family and get ready for lots of fun.

We love the beautiful views of the mountains and pristine waters. One of the most peaceful places I know. We both love nature and being outdoors. Fishing is always a bonus. Sightings of Bald Eagles and nature at it's finest!!
My family and I spent a week in June at this truly unique vacation house on one of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen. We brought a boat last year and were looking for a place to take it on vacation where we wouldn't have to haul it or our gear around all the time. There was nothing more convenient than docking it 15 feet from the sliding door of this house!
The house is very well built using quality materials. As an engineer I truly appreciated all the work that was put into building a house that floats on the water. Make no mistake, this is a floating "house" not a cabin just to bunk in. The queen sized beds were comfortable and we found that there was everything we needed for the week.
The location and views from the house are unbelievable! I honestly think that they have the best location on the entire lake. The pictures of the view do not do it justice and what it doesn't capture is just how quiet the area is. The house is in a creek just off of the main channel where the lake opens up to miles of undeveloped lake. On the weekend, there were maybe 2 or 3 other boaters out and during the week there was only 1 other family in the creek, so we felt like we had the area to ourselves. The lake itself is clean, deep, deserted and usually pretty flat (think of a mirror). Even though it is up in the mountains, the water was warm and perfect for water sports. If you are new to boating or renting their boat, this is an easy lake to navigate.
We went out fishing with Bobby a couple of times and had some good luck! He was an excellent guide and handled my young boys (6 and 8) wonderfully. What is truly an amazing accomplishment was he got my wife into position to catch her first "solo" fish while they were jumping.
Steve and Marcella were excellent hosts. They have set up this house with everything you need and were a pleasure to work with. Steve made it a point to offer up anything in the house and made us feel at home. You can tell he's proud of the house and rightfully so.
This was a great family vacation for us and when the week was over nobody wanted to go home. We could have easily stayed another week and normally my wife won't say that. Our kids loved the house and playing in the water at every opportunity. While they had DirecTV in the house our kids spent more time away from all that. I would highly recommend this rental. I'm sure we'll be back, probably next year.
More rugged than a resort, but more adventure. The cabin is very nice and the lake is beautiful. There is but one other floating home in the cove and they were away so we had the place to ourselves. Swimming, fishing, cookouts all on the lake. The solar power means you have to conserve but the kids spent so much time kayaking and swimming that it wasn't hard. Stay the five nights to get use of the pontoon boat. One day we went to Nantahala center and rafted/zipped line, another we went to the Smoky National Park-both nearby. We let Captain Bobby take us fishing one night at the dam. A great time and the owners and their on-location man Bobby attended to any issue we had. I highly recommend, but you will want to make sure your group are swimmers.
If you like to get close to nature and unplug, but you aren't the camping type, this is the perfect place for you. I would describe this as a luxury cabin. It was clean, well equipped, modern yet rustic, perfectly decorated and comfortable. There were 5 of us (my wife, 3 kids & me), and there was plenty of room. It's cozy. We're a close family, so we don't mind being close. If you're not, it might be a little tight. The caretaker, Bob, is fantastic! He will take care of you like family, checking in from time to time without being intrusive. We spent our mornings and evenings fishing, our afternoons boating, and hours each night out on the deck stargazing. It's a beautiful place to look for shooting stars! A couple of things to know before you go. 1 - it is very remote. Going out to eat is not convenient because you have to boat to a landing and drive at least 30 min to find anything. We never even attempted this because that wasn't the type of trip we were looking for. Bring some groceries with you and cook. They have everything you need, including a nice gas grill. 2 - Since it is a floating house, the toilet flushes to a holding tank. It is a full bathroom, clean and comfortable, but there can be an odor for a few minutes after flushing. If you're sensitive to smells, you might be disappointed. We just kept the bathroom door closed and it was only a minor nuisance. 3 - don't plan on being on your cell phone all day. We have Verizon, and the cell service was almost nonexistent. Text messages would sometimes be delayed hours, but we found a place by the door where they would go through quickly. If you need to stay plugged in, you'll need to figure that out before you go, but this is a location to get away and UNPLUG. Perfect in my opinion.
The most important thing that I can say is that I will definitely stay here again!
We stayed here for five wonderful days. The property is different than the usual mountain lake house or cabin. Only accessible by boat and solar powered. We had to make some adjustments to our cooking and nightly routines due to not having full electrical access. But being on vacation its great to unplug and relax. It kinda forced us to put away the electronics and enjoy the peace and quiet. The scenery was amazing ! Beautiful views across the lake of the national park. Sunsets were great. Kids loved being able to swim right outside the door and kayaking around the house. Beware of the pontoon boat, it can be thirsty lol. Overall we absolutely loved our vacation on the lake and will return.
I loved staying in the beautiful house. The lake was clean and clear. It was fantastic to walk out of the house and take a refreshing swim.
I thoroughly enjoyed the long peaceful days and the star scattered nights. I loved to sit outside and look at the beatiful mountain view, close and clear by day; shadowy and distant by night. I loved sitting outside at night. You could look up and view the stars and listen to the whipper wheel. The call of the whipper wheel bringing me back to childhood nights spend with my Grandma in her West Virginia home. Having the boat was great. We were able to take scenic rides on the lake. I liked seeing the memorial island near the marina.
My husband and grandson enjoyed fishing from the house and the fishing trip with Bobby. My grandson finally out fished his Pop-Pop with the biggest fish and the most fish caught on the fishing trip.
I did not leave the house until we decided to visit Fontana Village and the dam on Friday. We also visited Cherokee, NC on our way home. We enjoyed a visit to pan for gems. It was fun and we even brought home some bags to pan. There are plenty of attractions to keep busy if you desire.
We could not have asked for better hosts. Steve, Marcella and Bobby were wonderful. Helping to unload your supplies, providing you with the boat ride to the house and helping you get unloaded and settled. Steve was as close as a phone call with any questions. Bobby was readily available to handle any need you may have. They are great folks and make you feel at home.
I would visit Fontana lake and the Floating house more than once. If you are looking for a wonderful vacation this is a highly recommened choice by our family. Thanks for everything and we hope to visit again!!!!!!!!
By far, the most relaxing vacation we have ever been on. The house was beautiful, the views spectacular, the true Southern hospitality shown by Marcella, Steve and Bobby was much appreciated. While we were planning our trip we had planned for several day excursions around the area, but we never left the house it was just that relaxing and enjoyable!!! Of course, the highlight for the guys was night fishing at the dam with Bobby. We all enjoyed Bobby when he could join us for meals as he has had some life adventures to share. Being able to use the pontoon boat and kayaks to explore the lake was a nice relaxing way to spend an evening. We picked the week there was a heatwave but did not have to use the AC there was always a nice breeze blowing or we just jumped in the lake to cool down. We kept the windows and doors open day and night. I don't know how they do it but there were not any bugs (mosquitoes, flies!) an occasional bee would fly in and out. I can not recommend this house enough!
