Villa Madeline is a 2 bedroom custom built home with mahogany features and meticulous stonework, created with comfort and luxury in mind. Perfect for one or two couples, it offers quiet without solitude, and intimacy without losing the amenities of convenient modern living.
We had a great time. This is our 6th time to St John and our 1st at Villa Madeline. Loved the amazing views from the decks and had fun in the hot tub. Hope to come back again!
What a gorgeous place Villa Madeline is!! At the quiet end of St. John, it is the perfect getaway for those who crave a little respite in their otherwise busy lives. The setting is magnificent, the house delightful and the views stunning!! Yes, we had to reach this home with a a Jeep; everyone on the island drives one and with good reason. It is a mountainous island!! 4 wheel drive is necessary to reach your home wherever it is.
We were busy at the fantastic beaches nearby snorkeling (fantastic!!!) and didn't lie around the house that much, although we did make use of the lovely pool and yummy hot tub at the end of the day while we watched the sunset over the ocean. The porch was a great spot to curl up with a book. It's true, the photos do not give the advertisement justice.
We had two professional chefs in our foursome and found the kitchen to be more than adequate. We were also very grateful to have the laundry room after a day at the beach!! It must be added that we found the beach chairs to be absolutely fine. I am perplexed by the negative write-up that I read. Perhaps those people have never rented a house before but it is expected that the renters bring their own food, spices, detergent, whatever to the house.
St. John is an island, thus the food you buy to make meals is very expensive. We found it just as cost efficient to go out for dinner and a lot of fun as well! There were enough restaurants in the Coral Bay area that we never even ate in Cruz Bay although that is a fun little spot! Skinny Legs is not to be missed. We ate mostly Caribbean food; however, the atmosphere, the music and the burgers are just a blast! Breakfast was at home and we packed lunch and toted it in in the nifty cooler that was waiting at the house for us. Many Thanks for the gift of a cute beach bag as well!
The only reason I gave my review 4 stars is because it does not mention in the ad that you have to go outside to reach your bedrooms downstairs. They are pretty and comfortable with lovely bathrooms. The linens are fine. It was not a problem for us. However some people may have special needs and the stairs outside might not be appropriate for them. In addition, the living room area, although adorable, is extremely uncomfortable. The sofa is like sitting on a rock. Better to stick to a dining table chair.
All in all, we found Villa Madeline to be everything we hoped for and felt fortunate that we were able to stay there. Many Thanks from all of us!
Villa Madeline is very beautiful as well as the view. The stonework is stunning BUT this is not a luxury villa. The copy states "Villa Madeline has full amenities..." The Linens are not luxury especially in the bath. Make sure you bring shampoo and conditioner-it is not provided. And washing machine soap.
The sofa is very uncomfortable.
The access road to Villa Madeline is very very rough and the hill is incredibly steep. A Jeep is essential. Flashlight should be provided for emergencies and for walking in the dark.
The kitchen supplies were bare bones. You must buy practically everything to cook (spices, condiments etc)) Although the Pots and pans were adequately supplied. The plates were chipped and there was no can opener. The sink stopped up several times.
You can not enter the bedrooms from the house. You must exit the first floor, go outside, down stairs and then enter the bedrooms from the deck. Not a big thing but it should be mentioned. There is no TV in the bedroom even though the photo on the website shows a TV. The shutters will not close tightly in the bedrooms so you will get bugs inside if you keep the lights on at night.
There is no gas grill so you must buy charcoal. The umbrella for the dining table outside is missing but the photo on the VRBO site shows an umbrella. The beach chairs were almost impossible refold and the beach umbrella rusty. NO beach toys are provided.
Not luxury for the price of rental.
Stunning Caribbean architectural detail in the home welcomes you to this well-kept, well-appointed Villa. Perched slightly up the mountain side to give you a great view of Coral Bay (much better view than the VRBO photos give credit for) as well as Hurricane Hole but not to high on the mountain to give the driver and passengers white knuckles :) We enjoyed the sunshine from the deck, retreated in the shade to read, jumped in the pool and hung out comfortably on the surrounding deck with many happy hours relaxing and enjoying the beautiful expansive views. The home is as the photos display, even better in our opinion. The kitchen is loaded with glasses, plates, pans, etc., the furniture is comfortable and well maintained. We found the bedrooms to have dual closets, comfortable beds and a clean bath with spacious full tile shower (or enjoy the outside shower). Very cool. Quiet area, convenient location and all the amenities blend for a perfect vacation getaway! I would likely recommend Villa Madeline to friends and family!
