Guestbook comments from the manager

My husband and I had a great time at this house. From the moment we walked in the front door it felt inviting-it's not your typical "cottage" on the lake, it's a full gorgeous house! Very nicely furnished, time/effort was put into it, which we truly appreciated.

The view was absolutely beautiful! The furniture was very nice and comfortable inclusive of the master bed. They have even provided great outdoor furniture. There is no need to bring your lawn chairs! The owners have truly thought of everything, they had a fully stocked kitchen, inclusive of dinnerware, pots and pans and spices.

My husband and I plan on bringing our kids back this summer, they have kayaks and a fishing boat plus life jackets...we truly have no need to look for another vacation spot in the future.

Beyond the house it is only a few minutes from anything you need, groceries, casino, great food, and of course the breath taking wineries! Traverse City is by a great place to vacation or to just get away for the weekend!

Beautiful, wooded lot with a great view of High Lake. Private and peaceful.

Great location with a gas station 2 lots down and Traverse City about a 12 minute drive away. The only negatives were the distance between the parking area and the house, and 3 levels of stairs to get up and down to the lake, and in the home. (This was an issue for me simply because of my disability related to my back, hips, and knees.) The house was clean, except for some dust here and there. The kitchen was very well stocked and the kids enjoyed the foosball table and tv in the walk out basement. I appreciated the bathrooms on each level. Kayaking on the lake was great for our 10 and 9 year olds. The kids loved swimming to the raft. We only saw a couple pontoon boats the entire week. The firepit was great for s'mores and the balcony off the master bedroom provided unobstructed views for stargazing. Three levels indoors gave us space to spread out, yet the open concept on the main floor allowed us to stay connected. The huge window in the main living area gave us a lovely view of the outdoors, along with providing natural lighting. Puzzles and board games entertained us the days we stayed in. We went to Traverse City on Front St. for shopping and rode on a Tall Ship via The Traverse City Tall Ship Co. for a unique experience in the bay. We drove about 50 mins to Riverside Canoe Trips and took a raft up the very calm, family friendly, Little Platte River. We saw Sleeping Bear Dunes close by after getting off the river, and drove on the Scenic Hwy for fantastic, picturesque scenery, then onto Glen Arbor, a very cute town nearby, for pizza. We drove about 2 hrs 15 mins across Mackinac Bridge to St. Ignace and ferried to Mackinac Island. We wished we could have stayed another week. The house is very homey and comfortable. It was worth every penny for our family of 5 to make wonderful memories.

Decent property but the owner?

  • 1 of 5

Decent property and location that could use some TLC; carpet is stained, walls, are scuffed, and the screen door is balky....but location and the amenities are fine. However, my bigger problem is with the owner who we sent three messages over the course of 6 weeks requesting permission to bring a cage trained dog...dead air and no reply. Then she abruptly shows up at the cottage and accuses me of lying about the dog and withholds the security deposit. The keeping of the security deposit-- big deal...being called a liar I have a problem. Pass on this one.

Owner's Response: I am sorry this situation occurred. We never received a single message asking to bring a dog--our listing clearly states no pets and so did the rental agreement you signed, so had we actually gotten a message from you, it would have been answered promptly restating our no-pet policy. We also feel lied to & deceived in this case. Once we did discover you had brought a large puppy with you, we choose not to make you leave in the middle of your vacation due to breaking the rental agreement. Rather we hoped you would be responsible pet owners cleaning up after the puppy and leaving the house in good condition. When this was not the case, we chose to keep your security deposit. There are plenty of actual pet-friendly rentals available in the area, hopefully you will take advantage of one of those in the future.

Great space on a nice, quiet lake

  • 4 of 5

Overall we enjoyed our stay. The house could have used a little TLC as the carpets were stained and the walls were prettt scuffed up. The bedrooms could use some storage space as we had 5 people stay in the lower level without any dressers or drawers. It was also disappointing to have the sheets set out on the bed requiring us to make all the beds ourselves before being able to go to sleep. I would expect more from a high quality rental.

On the positive side, the main floor was nice, kitchen was well equipped with nice pots and pans. We did have the water softener run out of salt half way through out week and Colleen was quick to respond and add more salt. We enjoyed the outdoor space and decks, dock, and swimming dock. Kayaks were a nice plus!

  • 4 of 5

We found the cabin to be nice, clean and spacious. The use of the kayaks, John boat and docks was great to have and we used them everyday.

Perfect fall escape!

  • 5 of 5

This house was exactly what we were looking for in a quiet fall getaway while still being close to the amenities of Traverse City. We made great use of the fire pit, row boat, and kayaks. We stayed with another couple and the split floor plan made it perfect to give us each our own space. We will most definitely be back!
