About the property

1 bedroom, 1bathroom (sleeps 3)+ convertible bed(s)

Rather than stay in Hotel or large apartment building, guest can experience living in a residential neighborhood, charming historical townhouse. Fun to walk around the neighborhood, beautiful Embassies, restaurants, outdoor cafe's, Sunday farmers market. The apartment is walking distance to the Smithsoniam Mall and White house, or a few blocks to the metro. The streets in the neighborhood are quiet, tree lined and in Spring the cherry blossoms are magical. City living at it best, no car is necessary.

More attention to important details

  • 2 of 5

We stayed 7 days for a conference & sightseeig. It was a "hippie pad" which could have been cleaner & had more than the 2 towels supplied. Suggestions to owner

- map of area

- often had to request Internet be turned on

- microwave didn't work

- need mirror in LR to prep while other is showering

- need protocol for where to put trash

Owner's Response: Vivienne arrived at 1am in the morning and although she asked me to meet her at the apartment, it was too late for me to meet her. I asked to meet the following day, she responded that she was in a conference all day but needed more towels. I provided two extra towels but there were five towels in the closet, which I pointed out to her by text. She later complained that the microwave was not working but when I asked of I could take a look she responded that she had already had dinner and it was too late. I think the hippie comment is funny, if she knew the value of the Turkish textile behind the sofa she might reconsider her decor evaluation. Also the wicker table is from Serena and Lily, again not cheap. The quilt on bed is from John Robshaw, who has a studio in India, his sheets and quilts are very sought after, not to mention the bar stools are high end french modern design. I also have many low end items from IKEA, but comfortable. I'm glad for the review, the apartment is not for someone who wants to microwave dinners, and spend all day in a conference. The apartment is best suited for those who want to be in a great location, to walk around the beautiful historical neighborhood and enjoy DC. The truth, I have a notebook filled with kind comments guests have left, but it is always those who find fault in the apartment that write the review. Luckily many have also written kind reviews, so those reading can deduce for themselves if the apartment is the right fit for them.

Negetaves outweigh the positives

  • 3 of 5

For the positives - great location on a lovely block. Spacious living area with good kitchen. Bed was comfortable with cotton sheets and comforters. A good value for the area and the space.

Now the negatives - front lobby and vestibule not well maintained. No outside light and the light in the vestibule was out so completely dark when entered building. Had to use our cell phone to find the key and get into the apartment. I also took a bad fall missing one of the steps (odd step down to get out) on the last night when the light was still out resulting in a badly sprained ankle and had to cut out trip short.

The bathroom is very, very small and barely functional. Couldn't get anything but luke warm water out of the shower no soap and no wash cloths available.

And no outlet in the bathroom.

The futon that acts as a sofa really isn't comfortable as a sofa and there was only one other chair.

There was a lack of attention to details as well for example no wine opener, no salt and pepper shakers and the cable TV didn't have access to the local channels. ok place you could do better.

Owner's Response: 'They did not cut short their stay, which was for two days and there was a light in the lobby their last night, which is a small space 7'5'', before the entrance of the apartment. There are street lamps , which are strong but I will think about adding extra light in the front of the house. When they complained about the washcloth in the middle of the night, 11 PM, I explained it was very late but I would leave wash cloths at 9am the following morning. There is salt and pepper and other spices in the kitchen as well as olive oil.I think the sofa is very comfortable. Very true the bathroom is small. The bedroom has a comfortable bed with high quality cotton bedding, large kitchen and living area. The location, close to Dupont metro, four blocks, is the best. Basically it depends on your priorities, I believe the positives outweigh the negatives.

Charming DuPont Circle Rental

  • 4 of 5

We loved the neighbourhood which gave us a feeling of how the (fortunate) locals live. We were welcomed by the home owner and her bouncy dog. The unit was in a lovely period attached home with high ceilings and lots of character. The kitchen was modernized with very nice appliances. We were walking distance to Embassy Row and Nora's Restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious dinner.

Fantastic location, roomy, but needs attention

  • 3 of 5

We stayed for 10 days on a vacation in October. The location is perfect: a short walk to Dupont Circle and the Metro. You could even to the Capitol Mall, White House, museums, etc. if you like to walk. Plenty of restaurants, shops, charming historic neighborhood. The apartment is in a beautiful old brownstone row house and had all the basics, including fridge, dishwasher, microwave, TV, access to laundry, etc. There are two things that would make this property a really spectacular rental. First, it needs a deep cleaning. There was dirt/dust in the corners and on the baseboards, and the inside of the A/C (yes, it was hot a few days in October!) was just gross. The comforter on the bed smelled like cologne, and we suspected it hadn't been washed since the last rental. Second, there was no information whatsoever in the apartment. Understandable for a business renter, but we were on vacation and are used to seeing info about nearby businesses, suggestions for restaurants, directions to the nearest grocery, how to find the laundry (which is in the basement--take your key, one of us got locked out), where is the '"communal pool" listed in the ad, etc. Even the rental license posted on the wall was out of date. That said, AnaMarie was friendly when we saw her, and her dog is very sweet. On the whole, we had a great time. Would return if the place got a little more attention.

AMAZING LOCATION! Super-cute historic block!

  • 5 of 5

Amazing location! Awesome neighborhood! Close to so many restaurants, grocery stores, the post office & a fedex store, and most importantly, 2 great coffee houses!!! Walking distance to the Phillips Collection and the embassy row was a wonderful surprise. Felt very safe walking everywhere in the neighborhood, even at night. Walking distance to Metro station - easy for adults and older kids, but may want to have a stroller for little ones. Very quick Metro ride into the national mall & museums. Apartment is cute, historic, and has a very well stocked kitchen - was nice to not have to go out for breakfast, & have some dinners at home. The place is casual and comfortable - perfect for us and our 2 teenaged daughters. (Think very hip apartment you had - or wish you could have had in college.) We stayed in the bedroom while the girls shared the futon in the living room. We would definitely stay here again. If you are looking for a super-cush fancy 5 star experience, this place isn't for you. But if you want a place that is laid back, feels like a "home away from home" for your D.C. home base, where you don't have to worry about getting that "one thing out of place", and where your kids can spread out and be comfortable, this place is for you!

Owner's Response: Thank you for writing the review. I am truly happy your beautiful family enjoyed the apartment. The review is honest and accurate. The apartment is best suited for travelers who wish to be in a beautiful neighborhood within walking distance to all of the attractions. Part of the experience is to enjoy the city as if you were living in the city rather than as a tourist. I never ask tenants to write reviews because I know it takes time and effort. Many thanks for writing the review. Hoe to see you again, Anamaria
