About Heather Pitschka

Steve and I (Heather) have lived in Duluth for the past 17 and 12 years respectively. We call it home now and have a tough time seeing ourselves living elsewhere. Lake Superior has a draw and we've been mesmerized since moving here. We both love the water and spend a significant amount of our free time surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing and fishing. Both of us have caught a muskie out of our canoe a stone's throw away from our house on Minnesota Point. We've also been able to surf every month of the year! Although I'd recommend a wet suit Fall/Winter/Spring. We love this area and always look forward to coming home when we've gone on vacation.

What makes this house unique

You'll have direct access to the largest freshwater lake in the WORLD (Lake Baikal in Russia is largest by volume, Lake Superior is largest by surface area)!

You are 5 blocks away for the farthest inland port in the world.

You are 5 blocks away from one of the largest lift bridges in the United States. There you can view Ocean and Great Lake ships from less than 100 feet as they enter and leave the port.

Minnesota Point is surrounded by water and the Aerial Lift Bridge is the only point of access by land. You are essentially on a island!

Great Beach Cottage

  • 4 of 5

Very clean and cosy. We love the location and Heather (the owner) is very responsive. We have stayed here multiple times and will return. There is a very nice well equipped kitchen. We bring serving bowls, a few of our favorite kitchen tools and placemats if we are planning a special meal.

In summer there is a nice deck with gas grill.

The beach is just a few steps from the back door!

Perfection! All that beautiful Lake Superior has to offer!

  • 5 of 5

The sound of the waves heard from the bedroom window, going from the heat of the sauna to the cold of a Lake Superior night, warming up by the fireplace - all add up to a perfect get away stay. Also walking distance to the shops and action in Canal Park. Just a wonderful stay. Heather was so helpful! And, yes, she is mailing back my forgotten items!

This house was absolutely perfect for our getaway weekend in Duluth!

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a rental for Valentine's weekend in Duluth for my girlfriend and I. Heather was very prompt to reply to any questions I had and did a fantastic job preparing us for the weekend. (She even arranged for beautiful flowers to be there waiting for my girlfriend when we arrived...Brownie points through the roof!)

The house itself is a lot larger than I anticipated from the pictures. It has a great modern kitchen which we utilized quite a bit. The basement was a fun extra benefit to have (foosball, darts, air hockey, and of course the sauna)

Everything was immaculately clean.

For someone who wasn't familiar with duluth, I feel like I hit the jackpot with this place, the view from the master bedroom alone, overlooking Lake Superior with fantastic sunrises was worth every penny we paid.

Can't stress enough how great and acoomidating Heather was throughout our stay. (We didn't actually meet her but communicated through texts which worked well for us)

Can't wait to come back and see what it's like in the summer~

Winter paradise

  • 5 of 5

Heather and Steve's lake cabin is absolutely great. We planned for a winter get away with snowshoeing and lots of cross-country skiing to introduce our kiddo to the North Shore. Minnesota planned on 3 consecutive below-zero days, so we changed our plans a bit, but the beach house was a perfect place to hunker down.

The house is right on Park point, there is great beach walking our the back door with a Sauna to recharge, and the house itself is super nice with lake views from the bedroom and kitchen and a nice fireplace.

Hailing from Portland, we miss vertical lift bridges, so being across Duluth's incredible lift bridge felt like home.

Heather and Steve made us feel at home with great recommendations, clear communication and really good coffee. Also, the location is easily walk-able to Canal park just across the bridge. And Pizza Lucé delivers for free if you happen to have a young one with an early bedtime and it's -20° outside.
