Hale Pali (Cliff House) is a spectacular (non-smoking) OCEANFRONT home overlooking the blue Pacific. We heartily agree with our guests who have enthusiastically stated: 'there is nothing that compares to actually being on the water' - what better way to enjoy the sound of the waves, and the smell of the sea air.

The home is beautifully and tastefully decorated and features teak furniture.

You will love cooking in the fully equipped, Rick Hartman designed, gourmet kitchen.

You can keep cool by taking a dip in our 3,000 gallon 'natural' (unheated) lava-pool or just 'chill' while lounging and sunning yourself on our small private white sand beach, you may also choose to kick back in the comfort of our shaded hammock.

If you need to stay connected you can do so via FREE WIFI.

A perfect day begins while sitting on the sea wall, sipping Kona Coffee, and looking out to sea. You will be amazed by the spectacular “blow-hole” that adds to the OCEANFRONT splendor of our seaside home.

If you are looking for 'off-the-beaten-path relaxation. We think that the serenity you will find here makes the 45 minute drive south from Kona Village very worthwhile.

About the Owners: Carl and Deborah have lived here on the Big Island for more than 30 years and reside on an 8 1/2 acre farm just 15 minutes up the mountainside from the Beach House. They are both retired School Counselors following 30+ year careers, and are San Francisco State Alum who moved here from the Bay Area.

They say that their favorite part of owning Hale Pali is meeting guests from all corners of the globe.

About Carl Ramsey

Carl and Deborah Ramsey have resided on the Big Island for more than 30 years. They are San Francisco State Alum and moved to the islands from the Bay Area. Carl and Deb are retired after many years of rewarding work counseling in the Hawaii Island public school system (who ever thought up the idea of retirement knew what they were doing!)

Their residence is an 8 1/2 acre farm just up the mountainside from the beach house. Although the crops are not extensive, Deborah does grow some Kona Coffee.

Meeting fascinating guests from all around the planet is the best part of owning and operating Hale Pali, they say. Please come and join them along the beautiful and peaceful south kona coast.

Hale Pali - Mahola, Carl & Deb, for sharing your beautiful home!!!

My three (3) girlfriends and I take a "Girls' Trip" each year and have done so for +30 years. This years destination was Hawaii. Which island to visit was the first big decision. We chose The Big Island. Next, was where to stay. The best decision we could have made was to rent Hale Pali, a beautiful, well-appointed oceanfront home with the most breathtaking views. The home has everything you need during your stay. There seems to be an unofficial system of renters buying what they need from the house and leaving behind the leftover non-perishables for the next renters. The result is a well-stocked "pantry" of spices/seasonings/condiments - almost everything. Small appliances, kitchen gadgets are all there.

Hale Pali was our home away from home during our stay. We visited several beaches, toured a lot of sites, hopped to Oahu for the Pearl Harbor Tour ( a must see) while there and having this home to return to was the best thing about the trip. The sunrises and sunsets from the home were spectacular. My personal "home-away-from-home" was the hammock on the lanai. My goal was to catch each sunrise and sunset while there. I wasn't 100% successful, but the ones I did catch were will worth the wait. One night was spent simply watching the moon drop off of the horizon. Simply awe inspiring.

The owners, Carl and Debra were the best! They were great in helping me to prepare for the trip. They made sure we were well taken care of during our stay. While there, we reported a very minor issue with the Master Bath shower. They had the problem resolved very promptly. I would highly recommend this home to anyone visiting the Big Island. One thing of note is that the nearest beach is a short drive away, but the oceanfront view was more than enough for us. The property was clean and well-maintained. Give this place a shot! Highly recommended for adults.

Peace, Beauty and Solitude

Thank you Deb & Carl for sharing this beautiful home with us. It was everything we hoped for. Privacy, never-ending view, comfort and style! The Master Suite is sooooo nice, with A/C, large walk-in shower, built-in cabinets and drawers, 2 different doors to the balcony, sitting area... LOVED IT! All of the other rooms are nicely appointed also with doors to the balcony too. The kitchen is FULLY stocked with everything you need! The best feature though is that huge veranda with TWO sets of screened French doors from the living room & dining room. The veranda has a hammock, swing chair, 3 sets of table and chairs, overlooks the white sand back yard and soaking pool to the endless ocean view. The rock work low walls are stunning but I hope that no one would ever stay here with small children. Too many dangers, you'd never be able to let them out of your site for one second. The home sits on a huge double lot so there are no neighbors close by. We enjoyed every aspect of this home. We visited all of the nearby beaches and snorkeling spots and were never disappointed. I like being far from crowds and resorts and this fit the bill. There are no real close sandy beaches but lots of places to explore.

Fairfax Station

Tranquil in Kona

Carl and Deb made sure that from the minute we arrived on Kona that our stay was perfect. The house was open with music playing when we arrived. Communications with Carl about recommendations, etc were immediately received. We would plan day trips throughout the island every day and always have a relaxing swim, drink and dinner every evening. This house is fairly remote but it was perfect for us. Kitchen well appointed and once you get back to the house, you definitely can get into an island chill and listen to the birds and ocean waves crash up against the lava walls. Thank you Carl and Deb for opening your house to us.

Peaceful paradise on the ocean

We just finished our stay at Hale Pali and we cannot say enough about Carl and Deborah's fabulous beach house. From the layout to the gourmet, well-equipped kitchen to the beach oasis they have created just off the lanai, this place has all you could expect and more! The view of the ocean (we enjoyed the dolphins and some sort of fish that scoots along the top of the water at high speeds!) and sunsets may be worth the stay by themselves. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and honestly had to guilt ourselves into leaving to explore the island! It is clean and well maintained with lots of space and is very well furnished the way you think a beach house should be.

We loved the drive to the National Volcano Park which is not to be missed. Great stops at Black Sand Beach to see sea turtles and South Point to experience the southernmost point in the U.S. (and maybe the windiest too!). Don't miss the bake shop in Naalehu (Panulu'u Bake Shop) for sweetbreads, malasadas and ice cream on the way back. Hilo is just half hour past the volcanoes and is worth continuing on and checking out. Make sure you stop by the park on Banyan drive by the hotels on the bay. Very beautiful. Rainbow falls is just up on top of Hilo and is a nice stop.

Costco of course can't be beat for supplies (wine selection and prices can't be beat) but we preferred to pick up fruit, vegetables and baking from the local stands and shops which are plentiful (South Kona Fruit stand is especially good on the road to Hale Pail).

Hale Pali was recommended to us by friends and we will most definitely be passing on that recommendation to anyone we can!

Wonderful vacation in a wonderful home

We just returned from a week at Hale Pali and we had a great time. We are a family of two parents and two kids ages 12 and 9. The home is large, well-appointed, and very comfortable. The wrap-around deck is great. The kids (and adults) loved the lava pool, which was great for cooling off from the heat. The views are spectacular and we were fortunate to see spinner dolphins from the deck. We enjoyed feeding the bountiful fish off the sea wall and the neighbors seemed to be having good luck catching them next door. It was not whale season, but I hear being at this home when the whales are there is spectacular. We might need to come back in the winter months.

The home is well off the beaten track, so be prepared. Do all of your shopping in advance, as there is no popping round to the corner store to get milk. It's a good hour plus to get to Kona to go to safeway or Costco.

Some recommended side adventures:

1. Take the time to drive and then hike to see the lava flowing to the ocean at Kalapana, but be sure to give yourself lots of time and bring lots of water. It is an amazing thing to see and it won't be flowing forever. Look up online to see what is accessible and how to get there, as it changes depending on conditions and location of the flow.

2. Do the nighttime manta ray snorkel/dive. It was amazing to see those giant creatures inches away from your head (don't worry...perfectly safe).

3. We did a twilight tour of Volcano National Park through Hawaii Forest and Trail. It was a good tour, but took about 12 hours total. We got to see Mana Loa crater glowing at night with lava, which was really cool. Also got to walk through a lava tube (i.e., tunnel) which was fun.

Carl was a great host and checked in with us periodically to make sure we had everything we needed.

Overall a great stay and highly recommended.
