About the property

Experienced owners, personal touch, great location (2+ BR, 1 BA, Sleeps 4-6)

This charming home nestled in beautiful oak forest at the end of a residential street in Durham, NC near the Eno River, and approximately 10 minutes from Duke University, has all the extra comforts of home including a sleep number bed, blackout curtains in both bedrooms, a charging station, a well-stocked kitchen complete with spices and staples and more. Enjoy a forest view or the occasional sound of rain through the large skylights in the high ceiling above the open living/dining area as well as forest views through every window in the home and from the two private decks. Hike nature trails beginning within 150 ft of the home and extending to and through the Eno River State Park. Snuggle up in the evenings as you watch a free movie from Amazon Prime on the LED smart TV. Be near, but feel far, from everything except nature.

A few more details: The master bedroom has a Queen-size Sleep Number bed, and a private, enclosed deck off the back of the house. The second bedroom has a full-size bed with a sateen comforter set. The 400 square foot loft has a large forest-view skylight and is outfitted with two desks and reading chairs, as well as a futon sofa/bed. The loft provides an additional semi-private sleeping space (there is a door). Linens are provided for the full-size loft futon bed, a twin air mattress and a pack-n-play upon request. A full size crib is also available for a set-up fee. The bathroom is newly remodeled and the kitchen is fully equipped with all that you need to enjoy cooking and baking during your stay (including a new side-by-side refrigerator, a new glass-top stove/oven, a dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster and basic pantry items such as salt and pepper, spices, flour, sugar, olive oil, basic condiments, tea, honey, and coffee to start your first morning). We strive to provide all of the comforts of home including high-speed wireless internet, a charging station, a hair dryer, ironing board and iron, shampoo and conditioner, first aid kit, hand lotion, zip lock bags, saran wrap, food storage containers and more.

This home is ideal for visiting scholars, couples and families of all varieties, parents visiting adult children at Duke or in the general area, patients/families visiting or receiving treatment at Duke Medical Center (ask about our discounts for medical visits), solo travelers and anyone seeking some peaceful time.

We welcome families with small children (we have two of our own!). There is a play area in the side yard, which we put together for our daughter on her second birthday--it includes a small slide, a children's picnic table and a sand box. A gate for the bottom of the stairs, a crib (small fee for set up) a twin air mattress, pack-n-play, high chair, and children's toys and books are also available upon request.

About The Owner

This was our home for years. We were married next to the Eno River within walking distance of the home and our reception was held on the deck afterward (in April when the azaleas are in full bloom)! With the birth of our second child we moved to nearby Chapel Hill. We love this beautiful forest location so much that we couldn't bear to part with the home and instead decided to share it with others. We still visit often.

The Owner purchased this house in 1998

What makes this house unique

We love to walk the miles of nature trails that begin at the end of the driveway and lead to the Eno River. The Eno River trails are a favorite in our family- they provided the backdrop for our wedding and we still walk them often!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you again for a wonderful stay in your forest home! You have been more than helpful and welcoming. Letting us use your pack and play, high chair, etc. has made this place feel more like home. If we ever come back to Durham, we will book here again.

very comfortable and peaceful

  • 4 of 5

the cottage is close to town yet very rural, being located at the end of a residential street. It is surrounded by forest. The cottage is very well equipped with kitchen and living accessories. The heating is fast and very good.

Great for our needs and our kids were right at home!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great little place just outside of Durham. We needed to be in town on business for several days, which means we needed to bring our kiddos with us. They write right at home and the owner was so awesome to accommodate us by setting out toys and a kids dining seat. We will definitely stay here again should we need long term accommodations.
