Why Blake Blackwelder/Diane Blackwelder chose Texas

This property is located in Treasure Island which is just the best subdivsion on the coast. It is quiet and a great get-away spot for families. We have some of the best quality Gulf water in the entire region due to offshore waters coming into the Pass with the tides. We also have City of Galveston drinking water. This is the best view anywhere because we have the ligths on the west end of Galveston Island shining across the waters of the Pass at night and in the morning we sip coffee looking at the sunrise out front. Stars and moon can be spectacular over the vast expanse of the Gulf. Pelicans fly along in formation just out front and occasionally porpoises play in the pass.

What makes this house unique

This is living on the beach at its best. The house is uniquely designed with flow-through ambiance from room to room. The view of the water from the front decks is unsurpassed anywhere. The kitchen has everything with top of the line appliances and invection cooktop. Travertine and quartzite floors throughout house. Quality mattresses and furniture.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our family gathered over the July 4th holiday at Sail Away Gal, and we loved it! This brilliantly designed home faces the sunrise over the Gulf and an almost private beach. We shared the beach with one other family! No cars. And each morning the receding tide left a new treasure trove of shells for our grandchildren to collect.

The home itself is very thoughtfully designed and furnished. We especially loved the covered deck that wrapped around the main floor of the house. Three of the bedrooms have extremely comfortable king beds, and the fourth bedroom has four bunks for our grandchildren. The kitchen was completely furnished with everything we needed for our meals. Very nice. Appliances are all top-of-the-line. There was plenty of seating for eating meals, playing games, watching tv, or just hanging out. Three air conditioning units kept everything very comfortably cool...in July! My husband and I loved the upstairs master. Each morning we brewed our coffee, then relaxed on our private balcony listening to the peaceful sound of the waves and the birds and watching the sunrise...a beautiful, restful way to start a day.

We look forward to returning!

*The listing was accurate and the property was exactly as promised.

*It was clean and well-maintained.

*The owner provided good customer service. They responded promptly to our inquiries.

*We rode the ferry to Bolivar. Fun! And we also recommend the Crocodile Encounter in Angleton...amazing and well-run.

*We highly recommend this property.

Notes:
Great shelling, large numbers of pelicans and other birds always present, best fishing area in region, close to Galveston but far enough away from population center to feel like a retreat. Practically a private beach in the off season. Water is clearer and bluer than that in the City of Galveston due to offshore blue Gulf waters coming into San Luis Pass with the tides. Due to the bridge and sand movement, cars are seldom able to drive in front of the property; although sand beaches come and go in front of the house, there is always sand beach along the pass toward the bridge and, in the other direction, there is extensive beach that extends all the way to Surfside. Beaches in front will accrete in the summer and slowly erode in winter. Horseback riding available 15 min. away.

This place deserves 10 stars!

We loved staying in this gorgeous home overlooking the waters of San Luis Pass. The covered wrap around porch was a definite plus, as it allows you to be outside all day and either be in the sun or in the shade–according to your preference. Almost 360 degree water views from the pass to the beach to the bay. Much cooking was done in the true chef's kitchen! All the beds were comfortable. Plenty of seating for everyone. Everything we needed was there. Will definitely consider staying here again if we go back to the Pass! On a side note, we were surprised to notice that the gorgeous granite in the kitchen is the same we have in our own home! Blake and Diane definitely have great taste! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home!

Great beachfront home for getaway

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful home is very well appointed and would sleep 12 people comfortably. With beautiful view and access to the beach, there is nothing left to ask for. And what you may need to ask for, the owners are responsive to you and helpful. We totally enjoyed our stay here and would love to visit again.

Exceeded our expectations! Lisa W.

This beautiful beachfront home is "as advertised" , and beyond! 7 adults including two in their 70's were able to enjoy communal meals, yet not be overcrowded when we needed a little space. Thoughtful design (lots of bathrooms and plenty of living space), top notch floors, slate tile showers, gorgeous sinks, a huge, well-appointed kitchen, spectacular views (including picture perfect sunrises), all helped make this the perfect vacation for our family. The ramp made it easy to bring our things in and made navigation possible for my mom, who has difficulty with stairs. It was nice being away from the crowded beach of Galveston (and the traffic!). There is a small convenience store just across from the subdivision for things like extra ice, or other small items you may have forgotten. The beach at the south end of the street was not crowded at all and we enjoyed being able to walk and beachcomb for a great distance if we wanted to. The small beach in front of the house was limited for walking, but still nice for experiencing the surf, even if not recommended for swimming. You won't be disappointed if you stay here!

Awesome!

  • 5 of 5

Such a great time! The house was perfect and the view was amazing. We had our Grandchildren with us so we only beach combed in front of the house. But just a little down the road and we were at the beach!

Great times. We'll definitely be back!

Well kept and comfy cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was very clean and well kept. Beautiful views from every room. It's a good idea to bring your own life vest if you plan on utilizing kayaks. But there are many place to launch near by so it's super conveitent. We waded right outside our cabin and swam at beaches a short distance down the road for safety. We loved the peace and quite the cabin offered being at the end of the island was perfect for us. Don't forget the drive thru daiquiri stop on your way in!
